Rainbow ist das siebte von acht Liedern aus My Little Pony – Der Film. Es wird von Songbird Serenade gesungen, während ihres Auftritts beim Freundschaftsfestival und während des animierten Abspanns am Ende des Films. Es wird auch kurz während Songbirds Gefangenschaft in Canterlot gesungen, nachdem es vom Sturmkönig übernommen wurde.
Das Lied ist der sechste Titel im offiziellen Soundtrack des Films. Drei Ausschnitte des Lieds sind auf dem singenden Spielzeug von Songbird Serenade zu hören.

In einem Facebook Livestream am 12. September 2017 kündigten Tara Strong und Andrea Libman – in ihren jeweiligen Rollen als Twilight Sparkle und Pinkie Pie – an, dass das Musikvideo zum Song am 14. September auf der Facebook-Seite von Entertainment Weekly veröffentlicht werden würde, mit Sias Alter Ego, gespielt von Maddie Ziegler. Das Video erschien schließlich fünf Tage später, am 19. September, auf der besagten Facebook-Seite von Entertainment Weekly.
