"Weird Al" Yankovic (/ˈjæŋkəvɪk/) is an American singer-songwriter, satirist, record producer, music video director, actor, voice actor, comedian, and author. In My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, he provides the voice of Cheese Sandwich.

Yankovic's involvement in the show was first teased when he tweeted a link to a fan-made My Little Pony video set to his song "Polkarama!" in April 2011.[1] Series director Jayson Thiessen later replied to the tweet, asking Yankovic if he was interested in "doing a guest spot on the show."[2]

Yankovic's appearance was teased further when he met with score composer William Anderson, who used to play harmonica and other instruments in Al's band, in August 2012.[3] Songwriter Daniel Ingram was informed of Yankovic's official involvement sometime in 2013.[4]

On July 15, 2014, Yankovic stated in a reddit AMA that he "would be more than happy to bring Cheese Sandwich back to Equestria if that's what [the writers] want!"[5] He has also expressed interest in providing voiceover for the upcoming 2017 My Little Pony feature film.[6] On March 8, 2019, Yankovic was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter to be reprising his role as Cheese Sandwich in season nine.[7]

Outside My Little Pony, Yankovic is best known as a musician, writing both original music and songs that parody and satirize pop culture. His favored instrument is the accordion. He has sold over 12 million albums (as of 2007), and he has been nominated for thirteen Grammy Awards, of which he won four. His latest album, Mandatory Fun, was the first comedy record to reach the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 since Allan Sherman's My Son, the Nut in 1963.

In acting, Yankovic co-wrote and starred in the 1989 comedy film UHF, and he had a television series called The Weird Al Show that ran from September to December 1997. He has also had guest roles in The Drew Carey Show, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, The Aquabats! Super Show!, Galavant, and the 2015 version of The Odd Couple and he is the new bandleader for Comedy Bang! Bang!.

In other voiceover work, Yankovic has voiced various supporting characters in The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Transformers Animated, Adventure Time, Batman vs. Robin, Gravity Falls, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Wander Over Yonder, Teen Titans Go!, The 7D, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and the title role in Milo Murphy's Law and he has portrayed animated versions of himself in Sabrina: The Animated Series, The Simpsons, Robot Chicken, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
