Bats is the second song of season four of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, featured in the episode of the same name and sung mainly by Applejack and Fluttershy with the rest of the Mane Six joining in later. In this song, Applejack and Fluttershy get into a debate about the vampire fruit bat invasion of Sweet Apple Acres, and how they should handle it, with Applejack wanting to get rid of them and Fluttershy wanting to let them stay.
According to Meghan McCarthy, Daniel Ingram "tapped into his inner Danny Elfman for [the] episode."[1] Ingram describes the song as "a banter style musical theatre song inspired by Danny Elfman/Nightmare Before Christmas."[2] The song serves as the third track of the soundtrack album Songs of Harmony.
