My Little Pony: Camp Bighoof #1 is the first issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: Camp Bighoof comic miniseries. In this issue, the Mane 5 reopen an old camp to teach foals about their new magic powers but find themselves in the presence of a mythical creature called Bighoof.
Summary[]
The issue opens with the Mane 5 welcoming a group of foals to the recently reopened summer camp Camp Horseshoe, now called Camp Bighoof, where they plan to teach the foals about their new magic as well as engage in traditional camping activities. Each foal has one of the Mane 5 assigned as his or her camp counselor, and most of them are excited to be present; one young Earth pony colt in Sunny Starscout's group, however, longs for the comfort of home.
- Sunny's group: the "Shooting Stars"
- Izzy Moonbow's group: the "Beaming Buttons"
- Pipp Petals' group: the "Melody Makers"
- Zipp Storm's group: "Sky Seekers"
After a day of getting to know each other and playing a few games, the Mane 5 and foals get together for a campfire. Sunny tells the campers the story of Bighoof, a giant, shaggy-haired, pony-like creature that walks on its hind legs and is said to have been sighted in the nearby woods. Sunny's friends have a similar myth in their own homelands; to unicorns it is known as the Bridlesquatch, and the Pegasi know it as the Zeti. The campers become alarmed when they hear a loud roar coming from the woods, believing it to be Bighoof, but the Mane 5 assure them it is just a wild animal.
The next morning, during breakfast, Sunny finds the young colt from the day before sitting by himself and tries to cheer him up, even as he misses his home and parents. Sunny convinces the colt to accompany her on a walk around the camp, and he slowly learns to appreciate it. At Sunny's suggestion, the Shooting Stars practice using their magic by decorating the camp's entrance sign.
Unfortunately, when the colt in Sunny's group catches a fit of sneezing, it causes a chain reaction of magic misfortune and triggers a rockslide that results in the camp entrance getting blocked by rocks and vines. The Mane 5 and campers are now trapped inside the camp, and when they hear another loud roar in the distance, they realize whatever is making the sound is trapped with them.
Quotes[]
- Hitch Trailblazer: This summer is going to be great! I can just feel it. The ponies will get to--
- Izzy Moonbow: Make art!
- Pipp Petals: And music!
- Zipp Storm: Test their agility!
- Sunny Starscout: While learning about nature. And their new powers!
- Hitch Trailblazer: Here are your detailed schedules and itineraries.
- Sunny Starscout: Yay... Who doesn't love a minute-by-minute timetable of their day?
- Colt: I miss my bed...
- Sunny Starscout: No one has been able to get proof Bighoof exists, but they say it's a giant pony that trots on two legs. Bighoof has a long, shaggy coat and is really good at blending in with its surroundings.
- Izzy Moonbow: We have that in Bridlewood! Well, sort of. Ours is called a Bridlesquatch.
- Pipp Petals: Zephyr Heights has one, too! High in the mountains.
- Zipp Storm: We call it a Zeti.
- Colt: I want my mom!
- Sunny Starscout: I don't know about you but I love it here! But I also really miss home and my own bed.
- Colt: Me too. I miss my mom and dad.
- Sunny Starscout: That's toooootally normal!
- Colt: Can we make plants grow around the sign?!
- Sunny Starscout: That sounds beautiful!
- Zipp Storm: Did that come from inside the camp?
- Pipp Petals: The camp that we're now trapped in?
- Hitch Trailblazer: Everything is totally fine! I think...
