Cutie Blossom Bash is the fifteenth episode of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, the first episode of the series' Chapter 5, and the fifteenth episode overall.

In this episode, Misty takes part in the annual Cutie Blossom Bash after receiving her cutie mark, but she feels nervous to be honored alongside all the other ponies who received theirs.

Summary

The cutie mark chronicles

The episode begins with the Mane 6 traveling to Zephyr Heights in the Mare Stream for the annual Equestria Cutie Blossom Bash, a ceremony and celebration thrown for ponies who received their cutie marks over the past year. Misty, having received her cutie mark in the previous episode, is nervous about taking part, so her friends share their own cutie mark stories to get her mind off things.

Sunny Starscout got her cutie mark when she opened a lemonade stand as a filly and resolved an argument between two ponies who fought over the last cup of lemonade. Zipp Storm got her cutie mark when, while trying to figure out how Pegasi could fly again before magic returned to Equestria, she impressed a crowd of Pegasi with her parkour skills. Pipp Petals got her cutie mark when, immediately after Zipp got hers, she was inspired to share her singing talent for the first time.

Hitch Trailblazer got his cutie mark when, while playing on the beach with some other colts, he allowed a filly to join their game after the other colts refused. Finally, Izzy Moonbow got her cutie mark when she took a pile of junk in the middle of Bridlewood and recycled it into something new, discovering the joy of "uni-cycling" for the first time. After hearing their stories, Misty is still nervous about participating in a big public ceremony in front of a crowd of hundreds, but she decides to bear through it for the sake of her friends.

Misty's best, most authentic self

The Mane 6 are greeted by Queen Haven when they arrive to Zephyr Heights. To prepare Misty for her impending ceremony, her friends give her a makeover, including dyeing her mane a new color. However, Misty is anxious about what evil plans Opaline is coming up with in her absence (unaware that Opaline's only current concern is a missing hairbrush). She also feels awkward over the fact that, since most ponies get their cutie marks when they are young, she will be the oldest pony taking part in the ceremony.

During the ceremonial Blossom Bash dinner, the participants are asked to introduce themselves and say what they believe their new cutie marks represent. However, Misty is unsure of what her cutie mark – a butterfly – means, making her feel even more like an outsider. The next day, the main Blossom Bash ceremony begins, with the participants being paraded in front of a large crowd while wearing banners bearing their new cutie marks.

Overwhelmed by the ceremony, Misty shuts the palace doors and confesses to her friends that she is too nervous to stand in front of a large crowd and uncomfortable with being made a big deal of. She fears her friends are disappointed in her and that she ruined the ceremony because of this, but her friends assure her that she has not ruined anything and apologize for pressuring her into such an uncomfortable situation. They offer to help her celebrate her cutie mark in another way.

Everypony can grow

As the rest of the Blossom Bash participants take part in the public parade, Misty's friends arrange for a smaller, private ceremony for her in the royal palace garden. Pipp donates one of her personal tree saplings for Misty to plant in the garden and nurture. Misty happily approves of this kind of ceremony for her cutie mark, and upon planting the sapling, she and her friends sing the song It All Takes Time.

As the Mane 6 sing, the magic shared between them causes Misty's sapling to grow rapidly into a large tree with blue leaves. With this, Misty realizes what her butterfly cutie mark represents: her ability to change and shape her own destiny. She also resolves to help finally defeat Opaline by pretending to still be loyal to her and acting as a double agent for her friends. While Misty's friends are concerned about the risks involved with such a plan, they support Misty's decision. Some time later, Misty returns to Opaline's castle, keeping her cutie mark concealed with makeup.

Misty: Cutie Blossom Bash? What is that?

Pipp Petals: It's only the cutest springtime celebration of all that is fresh and new. I'm talking flowers, blossoms, bunnies, fashion! The looks you will see, Misty. The looks!

Misty: I'll just keep my head down and blend in. It'll be smooth sailing.

Misty: Oh, no. I just jinxed the whole "smooth sailing" thing, didn't I?

Izzy Moonbow: Doodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-loo... Flashback!

Young Izzy Moonbow: I'm just a unicorn that loves recycling. Uni... cycling... [gasps] Uni-cycling!

Opaline: Gone! GONE! No, no, no... How is this possible?! The ultimate price must be paid! I can't believe she's missing! ...Gertrude! Where are you, Gertrude?! My favorite manebrush! She's so precious to me! I must find her!

Misty: Most ponies get their cutie marks when they're young. Because that's when the magic of their personality—

Izzy Moonbow: And their Luminessence!

Misty: ...starts to shine. But, because of Opaline, I never got to shine until now. That means not only will I be in front of everypony, but... I'm gonna be the oldest pony here!

Queen Haven: From Pegasi to unicorns to Earth ponies, every one of you has reached an important milestone in your journey to become your best, most authentic selves. It's time to go out and make your mark on Equestria!

Opaline: Misty fails all the time! She'll be back down soon, begging me to give her a cutie mark like always. [scoffs] So silly, that girl. To believe I'd ever actually do that!

Zipp Storm: There's no way we're letting it rain on this parade!

Izzy Moonbow: Wait, there's a parade?! Why didn't anypony tell me?! Um, I may be able to fashion a float quickly. But I will need a tube of glue, five thousand and fourteen gummy bunnies, and a—

Zipp Storm: No, it's just an expression!

Misty: All this Cutie Blossom Bash stuff has made me feel so not me. I may be smiling, but this is what I really feel like.

Izzy Moonbow: Oh, wow. Yeah, that... That looks unhappy.

Misty: That's why my cutie mark is a butterfly! It's because I have the power to change! To transform my own destiny! That's me!

Opaline: What has happened to your mane? It's all purple and pink and... different. Ugh!

Misty: Uh... Oh! Heh. That! Yeah! I... fell into a flower bush! An enchanted one! Grown with Earth pony flora magic! It instantly changed my mane! Ugh! Those cursed ponies got me again!
