Dahlia is a female Earth pony and supporting character in the My Little Pony Generation 5 film My Little Pony: A New Generation and subsequent Generation 5 media. She is a resident of the seaside Earth pony town of Maretime Bay, working there as a flower seller and baker.

Development

Dahlia's name is similar to the G1 Earth pony Dainty Dahlia and the G3 Earth pony Darling Dahlia.

Depiction in A New Generation

In the film My Little Pony: A New Generation, Dahlia appears as a resident of Maretime Bay, first appearing walking through town during Gonna Be My Day and later greeting town sheriff Hitch Trailblazer outside the Canterlogic factory. She later watches Phyllis Cloverleaf's technological presentation and flees in fear when Izzy Moonbow enters the town. Later in the film, she looks to deputy sheriff Sprout for leadership and safety against the "threat" of Pegasi and unicorns, and she joins the angry Earth pony mob during Danger, Danger. Dahlia appears again toward the end of the film after Pegasi and unicorns get their magic back.

Depiction in Make Your Mark

In the hour-long special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, Dahlia appears several times walking through Maretime Bay. When Posey rallies Earth ponies against Pegasi and unicorns, Dahlia joins her in shunning the other pony races from Maretime Bay Day. Toward the end of the special, when the pony races make amends, Dahlia and her fellow Earth ponies gain plant-growing magic.

In the Make Your Mark Chapter 2 episode Growing Pains, Dahlia accidentally blocks the door to Hitch's sheriff station with magically-grown vines, listens when Hitch places restrictions on Earth pony magic, and later magically grows a patch of gardenias (which she is allergic to). In Ali-Conned, she expresses annoyance when Sunny Starscout tries raising awareness on junk food consumption, but she quickly changes her tune whenever Sunny turns into an Alicorn. In The Cutie Mark Mix-Up, Dahlia joins other Earth ponies in growing fruits and vegetables in the community garden, and she later buys smoothies from Hitch after he switches cutie marks with Sunny. In Hoof Done It?, Dahlia briefly appears talking to Posey during Zipp Storm's search for Sunny's missing lantern.

In the My Little Pony: Winter Wishday special, Dahlia briefly appears celebrating Winter Wishday alongside the ponies of Maretime Bay. In Top Remodel, Dahlia suggests the idea of a glitter banner for Canterlove Studios. In Sunny Side Up, she appears among the Sunny Side Up viewers.

In Cutie Blossom Bash, Dahlia appears attending the ceremony. In Mane Smelody, she participates in the Mane Smelody Challenge. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, Dahlia's cutie mark gets stolen by Opaline. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, she joins everyone in singing in support of Sunny and regains her cutie mark upon Opaline's defeat.

Depiction in Tell Your Tale

Dahlia makes several supporting and background appearances in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. In Clip Trot, she appears watching and dancing along to the Mane 5's ClipTrot video of the Pony Hip Hop. In Neighfever, Dahlia struggles to sell flowers after Earth ponies gain the magic ability to grow their own. With Sunny's guidance, she learns to magically grow flowers of gigantic size but accidentally causes an outbreak of neighfever. In the end, she starts selling necklaces of color-changing flowers.

In On Your Cutie Marks, Dahlia takes part in the first Equestria Games since the pony races reunited. In Puphunt, she helps spread the word around social media about Cloudpuff's disappearance. In All That Jazz, she gets a hooficure from Jazz Hooves. In A Day in the Life, she helps Pipp Petals with a new perfume. In Ponytropico, she appears in an online advertisement for the Ponytropico resort.

In Issue #12 of the 2022 My Little Pony comic book series, Dahlia serves as a central character in Hitch's investigation into Pansy Silverbell's disappearance. She used to be in a baking club with Pansy and Jazz and a frequent entrant in an annual baking competition, which Pansy always won. When the pressures of winning threatened Pansy's friendships, she left Maretime Bay, secretly returning sometime later until Hitch's investigation prompted Pansy to reconnect with Dahlia and Jazz.

In Issue #13, Dahlia enters the Maretime Bay Beachside Bake-Off, eventually winning in the end with her triple-berry shortcake.
