Feeling Pinkie Keen is the fifteenth episode of the first season of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. In this episode, Twilight Sparkle learns that Pinkie Pie has an unusual ability to sense happenings in the immediate future known as "Pinkie Sense." The title of the episode is a play on the phrase "feeling peachy keen," which refers to feeling upbeat and generally happy.

Production

The episode's premise stemmed from the common occurrence of having aching joints when the weather is about to change, and Twilight's skepticism towards the phenomenon. The episode was #8 in the We Heart Ponies Fan Favorite Mare-a-thon, in the leadup to Hearts and Hooves Day.

Derpy was present in the episode prior to becoming popular with the bronies, and the show's director, Jayson Thiessen, called for a revision of the shot so that Derpy's eyes would be crossed.^{​[​citation needed​]​}

After the episode aired, Lauren Faust expressed that she wishes she "could [go] back and clarify it further," since the message of the episode was misinterpreted by some viewers.

Summary

Pinkie's predictions

Twitchy twitcha twitcha twitch.

While helping Twilight Sparkle practice magic spells on a grassy knoll in Ponyville, Spike notices Pinkie Pie in an umbrella hat sneaking from cover to cover while looking nervously up at the sky. When Twilight approaches her and asks what she's up to, Pinkie responds that her tail is twitching and claims it's a sign from her Pinkie Sense that "stuff's gonna start falling". Twilight starts to dismiss the idea but is interrupted when a frog falls onto her face.

Appearing above the group with a cart full of frogs, Fluttershy apologizes to Twilight and explains that she's moving the frogs from the pond to Froggy Bottom Bogg before carrying on her way. While Spike is amazed at the fulfilled prediction, Twilight brushes off the incident tries to resume their practice session, only for Pinkie to interrupt with another twitchy tail. Twilight tries to dismiss the idea once more but falls into a ditch, after which Pinkie's tail stops twitching.

Applejack appears and, after Twilight mentions Pinkie's twitchy tail, ducks for cover under a nearby cart before Spike confirms the prediction already came true. Applejack explains to an incredulous Twilight how the townsfolk have learned that, "if Pinkie's a-twichin', you better listen". Pinkie Pie rushes back and warns them that her ears are flopping, and that she'll start a bath for Twilight. As Twilight starts to ridicule the notion, a hay cart passes over a nearby puddle and splashes her with mud.

Studying the Pinkie Sense

While Twilight Sparkle washes herself at Sugarcube Corner, Pinkie Pie tells her that her Pinkie Sense involves "little niggly feelings" that portend different events. After she predicts there's an alligator in the tub on account of an achy shoulder, she pulls out her toothless pet alligator Gummy from the water, much to Twilight's dismay.

As the two ponies walk around town after the bath, Twilight expresses her skepticism about Pinkie Sense and claims that it differs from real magic. When they reach Golden Oak Library, Pinkie Pie tells Twilight that her Pinkie Sense may also manifest as a combination of feelings. She then experiences a "combo" to watch out for opening doors, whereupon Twilight gets squashed by Spike slamming the library door open. Pinkie responds to Twilight's resulting frustration by suggesting she doesn't understand, which gives Twilight an idea.

What a fine day for science. Or is it?

In the library basement, Twilight hooks Pinkie up to various measuring devices in order to gather data when she feels another twitch. When no twitches materialize, however, Twilight disconnects the machines in frustration and heads for the exit. As she follows behind, Pinkie suddenly feels a combo to watch out for doors, at which point Twilight gets smashed by the basement door when Spike opens it from the other side.

Fluttershy arrives at Froggy Bottom Bogg. Meanwhile in Ponyville, Spike joins Twilight Sparkle as she attempts to secretly observe Pinkie Pie going about her day. However, each attempt ends up foiled by events that align with the predictions Twilight observes: being attacked by a swarm of bees, falling into a cellar, and getting crushed by a series of heavy objects.

Twilight, bandaged and frustrated, confronts Pinkie when she overhears her telling Applejack that she was aware of her spying the whole time. Pinkie suddenly begins shivering violently, but when asked, she confesses she doesn't know the cause but that whatever it is must be a "doozy" that will take place at Froggy Bottom Bogg. Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and Spike set out toward the bog to check on Fluttershy. Twilight dismisses the new prediction but tags along anyway so she can see the look on Pinkie's face if nothing is wrong.

Froggy Bottom Bogg

This proves that Equestria is a very dangerous place.

Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and Spike arrive at Froggy Bottom Bogg to find Fluttershy safe and sound. As Twilight gloats about disproving Pinkie Sense, a gigantic hydra rises up behind her and menaces the group before chasing them across the bog.

When their path forward is blocked by a gorge, Twilight charges at the hydra to distract it while her friends cross by hopping along stepping-stone pillars. Before Twilight has a chance to cross herself, one of the hydra heads collides with and destroys several of the pillars, leaving a wide gap across the chasm. Pinkie Pie tells Twilight to "take a leap of faith" as her body wiggles intensely from Pinkie Sense. Twilight jumps short of reaching the other side, but a large bubble at the bottom of the gorge bounces her back up and across the remaining pillars to her friends' side of the chasm.

The doozy

Just as Twilight congratulates her for predicting the hydra attack, Pinkie experiences another spell of intense shudders and claims that it wasn't the doozy. Aggravated at the enigmatic nature of Pinkie Sense, Twilight's anger flares momentarily before she gives up and admits belief in Pinkie Sense despite not understanding it. Pinkie's shudders suddenly stop, and she tells Twilight that her believing was the doozy the whole time.

Later, while wearing an umbrella hat with Pinkie Pie in the Golden Oak Library, Twilight dictates a friendship report to Spike explaining that you shouldn't disbelieve something just because you don't understand it. Pinkie's tail twitches once more, and as Spike brings Twilight's report out to the balcony, Princess Celestia suddenly lands from above and takes the scroll from him.

Twilight Sparkle: No.

Spike: How about a squirrel?

Twilight Sparkle: No!
