Forums: Index > Chat discussion > Addendum to subject rule

Following an incident over the weekend in the chat, it has come to my attention that the first policy rule requires an addendum.

"If saying or doing something will make others upset or angry, then it's best that you avoid such behavior. This includes stating personal affiliations and beliefs. When requested to drop the subject, drop the subject."

I propose that the following, in some form, is added.

"If another user is talking on a subject that makes you feel stressed or upset, please contact that user via PM to ask them to stop. If they refuse, contact a chat moderator, so that they can ask the user to stop instead. Remember, you will always have the option of leaving the chat for a while if it feels necessary."

Discussion

Symbol strong support vote Strong support I agree with what Kinrah said, I really like the approach of de-escalating conflicts with users by addressing privately said users first, and reaching a common ground so harmony can be kept in chat.  OC.gifForce talk CM.png 14:40, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Symbol strong support vote Strong support This seems very appropriate and will help solve disputes more peacefully, I don't see any reason why it should not be added. B0lGGoQ.gifOz   21:18, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Consensus

Alright, it seems pretty unanimous. I'll go ahead and archive this page, then add this. --Kinrah (talk) 10:25, August 30, 2012 (UTC)
