Proposal

Pikmanipulator should have admin rights so he can take care of the many background-pony articles. Since he has intimate knowledge of these articles, it would be a great help for him to be able to move and rename pages on his own. –Throwawaytv 20:04, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Symbol strong support vote Strong supportI fully agree with this. Pikman has done exemplary work on this wiki, and has worked hard on the background pony pages. Symbol neutral vote NeutralThe background pony pages are good, i won't say they aren't but it think focusing on major pages is better than minor ponies. --Mylittlewut, Friendship is Questionable 20:07, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose I don't think it's such a good idea to accept another admin so soon already. Pikman is a good editor but his BG pony page wasn't even discussed in a forum as well other admins didn't even got a say in it. - KingLazy93 20:15, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose I'm against it, but only on procedural grounds. Pikmanipulator has done good work, and I think his approach can serve as a model to others: start off a Sandbox article, allow others to suggest improvements or even to contribute, and work at it until it's "ready" (i.e. of sufficient quality and length) for the main namespace. I know Kinrah has so far resisted suggestions that he adopt a similar approach for his chronological appearances list, but that would be another type of article that would benefit from this kind of approach. I intend to nominate Pikmanipulator for Contributor of the Month.
But I've also mentioned on previous occasions that I think we already have a lot of admins relative to our size, and it's only been six weeks since the last round of "promotions". There's no pressing need for another one, and it may be best to do so not one-at-a-time anyway, but several-nominations-at-once. Plus, there's only a few pages left now that haven't already been moved to the main namespace. I can handle that (or Shadowdemon in case I happen to not be online). --Tulipclaymore 20:35, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Hmm... You have a point. Pikman would make an excellent admin, but we do have a lot of them at the moment. Either way, my support stays the same. Symbol oppose vote oversat Strong opposeObjection! Honestly I do wonder why give this user admin rights. After finding a heap load of dupe/unused images and some images that weren't named properly, I still wonder why. As I do heavily agree with King, I really do vote against an idea that was barely supported on a blog. Not only that but the idea to give BG ponies their own page seems like a waste. If anything I say now's not the time to talk about admin rights. Bos_The_Boss 20:47, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol neutral vote Neutral Well, like has been said above, I think Pikman would make a really good admin, but there are a lot of us at present. It's not that I think he's not deserving of it (I most certainly think he's one of the most qualified to become the next new admin), but rather, I feel that there's just no need for another admin at the present time. However, I would not be opposed (at all) to him becoming one, whether it's now, or sometime in the future. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 00:43, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose If he needs to rename pages, he can ask an admin. Plus we already have enough active administrators. Teyandee (Talk) 05:13, February 20, 2012 (UTC)

Withdrawing the proposal

If I'd have known there was such strong opposition I'd have never started a discussion. A reminder: decisions are made through discussion, not through a vote. Stop rushing in with the vote templates. Now I see why Wikipedia removed them. –Throwawaytv 13:44, February 20, 2012 (UTC)

What is there to discuss with a request for adminship? Whether or not the candidate is suitable or not? Well surely that's what's been going on above?  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  13:50, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, and the vote templates are superfluous since it's not a vote. –Throwawaytv 14:31, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
So you're suggesting that we don't need to use the vote templates?  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  15:03, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
I'm saying polling is not a substitute for discussion and that turning discussion into votes polarizes opinions and gives more weight to the number of votes instead of the validity of the arguments. I'll be glad to remove the vote templates if it helps keep people from turning discussions into polls. –Throwawaytv 15:24, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
