Too many problems have arisen from regular contributors moving pages without paying attention to detail. Isn't there a way to only make it so administrators can move pages? I think it would solve those problems. It would save us the hassle and problems from this happening in the future I see why not. - KingLazy93 04:43, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
There is, but I'm ambivalent about blanket-protecting pages in general, even if it's just "move-protect", and wikia tends to be as well, from what I've heard. --Tulipclaymore 05:41, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Well, I'm fine with not doing it, but I just don't want a fiasco like Derpy and Macintosh again. FANMADE Berryshine sleeping by SierraExLord of Shadows Words mean nothing! 05:44, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
I'm fine with temporarily protecting a page if there's a good reason to assume someone would want to move it. Say, if a new wave of blind bags comes out and one of them sort of resembles Bon Bon, her page might be protected for a day or two, until a ShowToyComparison had been done and thoroughly discussed. --Tulipclaymore 05:49, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't think there's a way to stop autoconfirmed users from being able to move pages (short of protecting each and every page on this wiki). I think Tulip's idea is good; where we only change the move protection for pages to be administrator only when there's a good chance of the page being moved back and forth by the regular users. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 05:55, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
You know, the idea behind that suggestion was that pages should be protected first, and their name changed only after a visible discussion; not "change the name first, protect the page and discuss it later", which might lead to discontent. --Tulipclaymore 22:38, March 3, 2012 (UTC)
Well, at that point, I didn't know what to do. Also, I only protected the page on moving, which was my main concern. FANMADE Berryshine sleeping by SierraExLord of Shadows Words mean nothing! 22:43, March 3, 2012 (UTC)
Problems can happen when any user moves the page if wikia is having move-related issues. I support Tulipclaymore`s suggestion of temporary admin-only move protection for some pages. Teyandee (Talk) 06:12, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
I decided to protect the Derpy page last night because I had the feeling that someone or another would rename it to "Ditzy" due to the statement released by Amy Rogers. On account of the previous history of the page being moved and the article comments being destroyed, I'd rather not have a repeat of that - especially considering that any rename now would be incorrect. Also, Derpy is inevitably going to be a high-interest and high-traffic page. Best to not have any major changes being made to the title which could inadvertently affect the article comments should it be moved and quickly moved back. If I'm talking rubbish please tell me, but this is what I worked on to make the decision to protect Derpy.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  12:52, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
High-traffic pages can be protected indefinitely, vandalized pages can be protected temporarily, but pages in general should remain unprotected. Derpy is definitely a high-traffic page, not so sure about Big Macintosh. –Throwawaytv 12:56, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
