With all these in mind, which spelling should this wiki use? 76.9.78.163 02:55, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for raising this - Cadance is simply a variation of the name Cadence. I would still go with Cadence since it was the first seen spelling, and it seems unnecessary to change it, even with these various sources spelling it differently. 02:57, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
- I think that the Hasbro stand is the most official source in this list. So I would go with Cadence. Teyandee (Talk) 06:06, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree with that, plus (I know this has no bearing on what name is used) I just think Cadence looks better. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 06:28, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

- "Cadence" is the way the word is spelled. If I had to guess, someone at Hasbro later made a spelling mistake and it propagated all over. The page should definitely be titled "Cadence" but we should note the widespread alternate spelling. –Throwawaytv 07:28, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
- I added the new MLP Facebook post to the list. (Nothing big, just keeping the list up to date.) 76.9.78.163 04:53, April 5, 2012 (UTC)
- And now there is something big: The Hub's homepage, which formerly used Cadence, has switched to using Cadance. This means that someone intentionally changed it from Cadence to Cadance, so it looks very likely that Cadance is the correct spelling. My guess is that it was originally spelled as Cadence but was changed to Cadance during production. 76.9.78.163 22:46, April 7, 2012 (UTC)
- Definitely quite interesting; but I still say our best course of action is to leave it as "Cadence" until we become absolutely certain that it's one way or another, to save us work, in case we change it and it's revealed in the episode that "Cadence" is actually the correct spelling. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 04:00, April 8, 2012 (UTC)
- I still think than Hasbro and it`s stand should take precedence and so "Cadence" is the correct version. Teyandee (Talk) 07:09, April 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Exactly; that's why I'm advising waiting until the episodes air to change anything, if anything needs to be changed. Like, if it's spelled "Cadance" in the episode, obviously we'll have to change it to that; otherwise, I think you're right and the Hasbro stand should take precedence as the most official source for the spelling of her name. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 07:21, April 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, we should wait. But the Hasbro stand probably wasn't meant to be seen by the general public (it's only known to have been used at Hasbro's world HQ party), so it's possible that the names hadn't been finalized at the time. 76.9.78.163 12:40, April 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Added the U-verse summmaries to the list. 76.9.78.163 16:35, April 8, 2012 (UTC)

- Added a tweet from the MLP Twitter (not brand-new, but I didn't see it until now and it was missing from the list). 76.9.78.163 01:41, April 11, 2012 (UTC)

- Added USA Today article. First thing in a while to use "Cadence," but I wouldn't put too much stock in it, since it also calls Shining Armor "Shiny Armor." 64.118.123.130 02:02, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

- Added Wired's upload of a previously released clip. 64.118.123.130 00:01, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Added two tweets (which use "Cadence") from Baloney Brony, one of the show's animation directors. I'm guessing that the name had not yet been changed when he worked on the episodes and that he may not have been made aware of the change (though it should be noted that these tweets are part of a discussion in which someone else used "Cadence" first). 64.118.123.130 06:11, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Another possibility is that he was aware of the change, but that the change was made late in the game and that he forgot due to being used to the old spelling. 64.118.123.130 15:35, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Added another MLP Facebook post and another MLP Twitter tweet. 64.118.123.130 16:22, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Added Daniel Ingram's uses of "Cadence" (as with Baloney Brony, it may not have been changed at the time, or most of the time, that he worked on the episodes). 64.118.123.130 22:08, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
- Finally added a bunch of uses that I had gotten lazy and put off adding (I'm probably still missing some, so I wouldn't call the list complete anymore). Looks like "Cadence" is the spelling the crew's using, which I'm still guessing is because it was changed to "Cadance" late in the game. As for that WeLoveFine shirt, its title's use of "Cadence" could easily be a misspelling, since it's a fan-designed shirt (and it wouldn't be the first such misspelling; this fan-designed shirt and its title initially spelled Daring Do as "Daring Doo" and they weren't fixed until later). 64.118.123.130 08:02, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Added The Hub's new online episode uploads. 64.118.123.130 01:47, April 28, 2012 (UTC)
- Finally went through and checked the episodes' closed captioning. Added that. 64.118.123.130 01:19, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
- Added the "Wedding Flower Fillies" toy set packaging (though the photo's pretty blurry). 64.118.123.130 16:31, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
- Added A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2 script excerpt—it uses Cadence, but still there is the evidence that Cadance was later made the official spelling, so I still think that it should be Cadance (after all, Owloysius is spelled that way because Hasbro used that spelling here and here, despite Lauren Faust and Jayson Thiessen using Owlowiscious). EDIT: Dang, I forgot to sign this the whole time, sorry 64.118.123.130 18:53, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Added a comment by Sibsy; unlike the rest of the crew, she used "Cadance" 64.118.123.130 18:53, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Added EQD's Shout! press release. 64.118.123.130 06:28, May 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Added an alternate link to one of the other press releases. 64.118.123.130 09:08, May 6, 2012 (UTC)
Pronunciation[]
Her name has been pronounced by Katherine Kallinis in a video uploaded by The Hub's YouTube channel. 64.118.123.130 02:24, April 20, 2012 (UTC)
And it's been pronounced by Celestia in a clip from "A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2" 64.118.123.130 02:31, April 20, 2012 (UTC)
When should we change?[]
It looks like the change is here to stay. At first I thought it was a typo that stuck, but now a variety of sources use Cadance. Time for a change? –Throwawaytv 17:50, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- Isn`t the variety is a result of a mistake propagation? In that case we should not rename the article. I would not be total sure of the intentional alternative spelling- why would they do that? Teyandee (Talk) 17:55, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- That's what I believed at first when only a few sources used "Cadance", but now the vast majority of sources use it. –Throwawaytv 18:05, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- I say wait until the episode, or something really big, like a commercial that has the actual spelling on it. Cadance isn't even a word, while Cadence is. It's a little tough to figure out right now. Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing! 18:00, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed. Wait until the episode airs. We don't want to unnecessarily move the page, and lose all the comments only to find that we were wrong. MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:07, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think the show itself is going to specify a specific spelling and she's not likely to become part of the credits. Our usual sources (Faust, Thiessen, Nayuki, Sibsy) may not be much help since I wouldn't be surprised if the script called her "Cadence" but Hasbro decided at the last minute that a different spelling was needed to make the toy more TM'able. Given that the more recent a source is, the more likely it seems to be that it uses the ugly "Cadance", we may as well change the article name now (with redirect intact both to preserve comments and because it used to be, and may still be, a legitimitaly official spelling), change occurences of the name within her article for consistency, but allow usage of the alternative elsewhere on the wiki as long as we don't know for sure (cf. Nightmare Moon). Or wait until the weekend and see if the situation changes again, but I doubt it's going to. --Tulipclaymore 18:11, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I would advise waiting for the episodes (or something like that to air) just in case. After that, I'd be more open to moving the page. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 19:49, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
If we move it please can we move-protect it afterwards? No one wants it to be warred over and for the comments to get destroyed >.> 03:43, April 11, 2012 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. –Throwawaytv 12:54, April 11, 2012 (UTC)
These are the pictures of the DVD art that will be released some day: [1] They spelled it like "Cadance". I also prefer Cadence more, but now it's evident that they'll keep "Cadance" spelling. We should rename the page and only mention that she was originally called Cadence. Xeoxer 18:56, April 13, 2012 (UTC)
- I do think Cadance is probably how they want to spell it now, but just to clear that up: That's not a public DVD release, or a preview of one. It's a press kit. Studios/networks send those out to journalists all the time (it's how television bloggers can review new shows before the premiere, for instance). Luna Eclipsed was another episode sent to journalists like that (though probably in less elaborate packaging). --Tulipclaymore 19:00, April 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Looks like they definitely changed it to Cadance. –Throwawaytv 12:27, April 14, 2012 (UTC)
What about the credits after the show? Don't they feature the names of the characters? Joe Copp 16:36, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
