Forums: Index > Chat discussion > Moving Discussions to Discord

Hello friends,

I come to you today to make a proposition that I truly feel will benefit the Discord community. To move most discussions off the Wiki and into the use of #townhall and #townhall-vote. Recently, the Staff had to hold a discussion, a discussion that would normally be held on forums but I personally felt that the changes that had to be made could not wait the ten days that the forums would've made us have.

With this in mind I made a decision to hold a discussion with Staff members and two well established members of the Discord chat where we established a consensus straight away which meant changes to how the staff structure works. This has now been approved following a vote and is being implemented as we speak.

This turn around took two days, this discussion also had much more contribution and good, well needed talk to find a consensus and to implement things better and much more efficiently. The polls were limited to Ponyville residents and above which means they poll is VERY difficult to abuse as you do not get that role until you are an established member of the community.

The benefits I see from this are as follows:

  • Much more community engagement - as this short discussion and voting poll we have conducted has shown.
  • No barriers for the community in Discord to take part. On the Wiki, we do not allow IP edits, so people on Discord have to make an account or use #forum-input which we can agree, is just unnecessary.
  • No ten day wait for changes to be implemented, polls/votes/discussions would definitely not take ten days to accomplish in a Discord real-time scenario.
  • A more established community - coming together to discuss the changes that matter to us in a real-time scenario I feel will actually bring the community closer together.

I feel the forums do still have to be used for the following however:

  • Rights beings implemented (except for Moderators as this falls under Discord Admin jurisdiction)
  • Rights being removed (demotion forums).

I know some will have some reservations about this. Like I once did, but I say to those people. In fact, I appeal to these people:

We must adapt to the changes the community wants and expect from us - if we don't, we will loose and we will fall behind. The Discord community do not want tired forums with little input to govern the changes they want. It's time for us to change this

Many thanks all,
