If so, then I think that the Wonderbolt Pegasus mare with the same coat and mane colors being officially identified as Surprise makes the piece of concept art retroactively of the same pony. I'd treat them as the same pony. No reason to believe that Enterplay is all-knowing and knows about every single appearance of every single background pony (as evindenced by Impy). They both look absolutely identical. Vengir (talk) 12:24, April 14, 2015 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it was intended for this Pegasus to be Soarin, but intentions don't matter, only the official's word, and the official's word states that Sonic Rainboom is Soarin's first appearance. Also, for what it's worth, Soarin and this other guy appear in the same shot in The Best Night Ever, and pony 2 might also have a different cutie mark than Soarin. The right picture above is from The Ticket Master. Here's Soarin in Sonic Rainboom. Here he is again in The Best Night Ever. Same coat color. Same mane color and style. Same cutie mark. Even official material can be inaccurate and subject to errors -- Soarin was once mislabeled as Spitfire in the blind bag toys (and vice-versa), and Big McIntosh was once mislabeled as Rainbow Dash.

Besides, duplicate ponies appear in the same scene all the time, including non-background ponies.   23:00, April 15, 2015 (UTC)

I would treat them both as the same pony. The only real difference is the mane style, which could be easily changed after that many years (puffy mane not being good aerodynamically, she could have changed it when began flying seriously to join the Wonderbolts).
