Forums: Index > Chat discussion > Proposal: Discussing Chat Forum topics Live

In light of recent events, I believe what we need is a new venue to discuss things in a more live setting. While certain forums and nominations are working in this thread-based environment Wikia has set up for its wikis, other discussions are getting out of hand, and just aren't resolving the way they could if many people came at set time(s) to talk about things. That way people can give a better initial opinion and feedback, and things could resolve at a much quicker pace. What I'm seeing recently are a lot of back-and-forths between two or three users, which, if they deem necessary, can be done live so as not to create text walls, and as I previously stated, resolve problems faster and more efficiently. The only problem, however, would be how to set something like this up. Obviously it would be done on a Wikia chat (not necessarily this one, possibly another wiki with a dead chat (I actually own a few)) as using an outlet like Skype might decrease the amount of users being able to give their 2 cents. I figure we can kill two birds in this forum by first deciding on if this is a good idea, and then decide how to go about this.

Bear with my potentially-confusing words, I just had to write this all down. Please, share your thoughts on this. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/274/6/d/6d9b956b91e0c92565e2a90a818bee37-d5gij3r.gifAppleJon-Talk 01:55, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Symbol oppose vote Oppose The chat forums, in my opinion, are fine as they are as of now. I may change my opinion later though. Business Cathttp://i.imgur.com/uQDdF.png 02:00, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose I'm fine with the forums, though, I wouldn't mind another chat like Food Test or a Skype group being used as tools, but I feel that discussions should take place on this wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr. Las Moore (talkcontribs)
Pictogram voting comment Comment For the record, I only threw that out there as a solution to the potential issue with being able to use chat for a specific discussion without interruption. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/274/6/d/6d9b956b91e0c92565e2a90a818bee37-d5gij3r.gifAppleJon-Talk 05:46, January 5, 2013 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose I'm perfectly content with what we are using right now. http://i.imgur.com/B0lGGoQ.gifOz   02:36, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
Weak Oppose Weak oppose I think using these forums makes it easier to follow a discussion, look back to see what the general feeling was, and see specific objections. A live setting could be useful in some situations, but I don't think it's necessary for the kinds of things we discuss now. There's also always going to be someone who can't make it to a live discussion, so this method makes it easier for everyone who wants to voice his or her opinion to do so. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 09:12, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
Symbol oppose vote Oppose - I honestly love the idea, but there is a problem that plagues the chat to this day. How do we record and document it without room for people to say that it's been edited? Under the current MediaWiki forum system, you can easily look back as far as when the wiki was created and see every single person's contribution to the discussion. You can't currently do that with the chat.  Food 25px-Surprise.png  05:48, January 4, 2013 (UTC)
Pictogram voting comment Comment I understand where you're coming from, but I'd like to point out that having a lack of trust among this community would be something that needs to be resolved regardless... http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/274/6/d/6d9b956b91e0c92565e2a90a818bee37-d5gij3r.gifAppleJon-Talk 05:46, January 5, 2013 (UTC)
It's not so much a lack of trust as much as "This guy's pointing his finger at me, how can I invalidate his point?".  Food 25px-Surprise.png  13:34, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I understand you now. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/274/6/d/6d9b956b91e0c92565e2a90a818bee37-d5gij3r.gifAppleJon-Talk 15:30, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment Comment Well seeing how this is being mostly declined, I won't vote but I wonder, what good can we pull out of this, instead of throwing ideas to the garbage bin we can analyze them and improve them.  OC.gifForce talk CM.png 17:49, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
