Category:Reformed characters

I think that Category:Reformed characters should be restored, as if "Antagonists" is a defining characteristic of certain characters, then "Reformed characters" should also be for those who reform over the course of the series (such as Trixie or Discord, just to name two, though there are plenty more). I think the name "Reformed characters" would work fine, but of course, feel free to suggest alternatives; also, if necessary, the wording on the category page can be discussed.
Obviously if this passes, I think Luna would qualify for addition, and not to steer this discussion onto a totally separate topic, but I would think that Rarity should also be added to both this and Antagonists (because of Nightmare Rarity in the comics).-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png  05:32, July 1, 2013 (UTC)

I suggest that the name be more general, along the lines of "Characters who get reformed" (but probably better-worded than that), since it's possible for antagonists to have been reformed in the past (for example, Trixie is an antagonist in Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell despite that taking place after the later-but-chronologically-earlier Friendship is Magic Issue #8 and the third season of the show). 07:34, July 1, 2013 (UTC)
It might be a little too specific and dependent upon the time that the category is added. It's not a really a defining characteristic that's always constant like species is.  Food 25px-Surprise.png  19:13, July 14, 2013 (UTC)
Maybe "Characters who have been reformed" but I dunno if that's too verbose or something.-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png  09:07, July 1, 2013 (UTC)
So... does anyone have any better suggestions on a name? That seems like it might be a little too verbose for me (I kinda like 64's suggestion of "Characters who get reformed").-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png  01:47, July 12, 2013 (UTC)
Personally, I think "Reformed Characters" would work just fine. Michael Ramsey (talk) 02:21, July 12, 2013 (UTC)
I dunno about having the category at all. As evidenced by 64's examples, it seems arbitrary and impermanent, and not something of any particular interest. If we do use it, I don't mind a somewhat longer title in the interest of clarity, like "Characters who have been reformed [at some point]". ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 03:54, July 12, 2013 (UTC)
How about something like "Reformed antagonists" to add to pages such as Princess Luna, Discord, or Babs Seed. If "Antagonists" is a defining characteristic of those pages, I fail to see why "Reformed antagonists" wouldn't be (considering that both "Antagonists", as well as the pony's species, are worded in a time-insensitive manner; it would probably be best to have both added).-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png  18:08, July 16, 2013 (UTC)
Would or would not Trixie fit into that category? I guess what we're looking for is "antagonists who have become and remained reformed"? But in any case, no doubt we'll get a lot of people adding Trixie to the category, since they won't bother to check for the other (non-show) information before assuming that the hundred other people who noticed the same thing all failed to add the category, and not checking the page history. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 23:42, July 16, 2013 (UTC)
See, my main point is that since the "Antagonists" category is time-insensitive, going on what we've done in the past, as well as what 64 brought up, this one should be too (so pages for characters that at least reform once will be placed in this, just like pages for characters who are at least once an antagonist, such as Princess Luna, remain in that category). Or should we make antagonists time-sensitive too, and rename it to something like "Characters who were, at some point, an antagonist"? Personally, I'm still all for "Reformed antagonists" - nice, short, simple, and it gets the point across.-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count 19:27, July 19, 2013 (UTC)Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png
Ah, I see, that makes sense. We could just clarify that the category is for characters that have been reformed at least once. Not that anyone reads the darn category descriptions, but it would be what we point to when undoing misguided edits. A simple name like reformed antagonists sounds good to me. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 00:09, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, and I reworded Category:Antagonists, as an example of the sort of wording that would probably work well when the new category is created, assuming it is (though the consensus seems to be in favor of it, I think).-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count 05:17, July 23, 2013 (UTC)Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png

I'm not too keen on the Reformed antagonists category, but I have no real opposition to it if it is created. ~Steph physarum (talk) 17:08, September 4, 2013 (UTC)
Neither am I, I suppose. Comics and book canon notwithstanding, it would be helpful in distinguishing those who've been reformed (or, in Trixie's case, were reformed once) and those who haven't. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 23:05, September 21, 2013 (UTC)

Snips, Snails, and Rarity

Side note: According to the Antagonists category description, Snips and Snails count as antagonists, but they don't have that category yet. ~Steph physarum (talk) 17:08, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I would've added them back (like I added Rarity for Nightmare Rarity in the comics) but it had been added and removed multiple times from both pages, so I figured it needed to be discussed.-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count 21:57, September 9, 2013 (UTC)Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png
My main issue is this: it's not the Snips and Snails of Equestria who act as antagonists, but the Snips and Snails of Canterlot High School. Category-wise, how do you make that distinction? In Rarity's case, there's no such confusion because it's indeed Equestria's Rarity who becomes an antagonist and not some other Rarity. Furthermore, should the reformed antagonists category discussed above be instated, would Snips and Snails qualify for that as well? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 23:05, September 21, 2013 (UTC)
Since their articles cover both their pony and human forms, I guess it would be appropriate to add the antagonists category to their pages. If the reformed antagonists category is created, I support adding that to Snips and Snails too. ~Steph physarum (talk) 23:17, September 21, 2013 (UTC)

Category:Reformed antagonists

So, is there any opposition to creating Category:Reformed antagonists or leaving Category:Reformed characters as is?-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count 05:05, November 30, 2013 (UTC)Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png

No objections here -- either one would work fine. My only real hangup would be the rather limiting number of applicable articles. (It's a minor hangup though.) furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 05:31, November 30, 2013 (UTC)
One one hand, I am in favour of the idea of a "reformed antagonists" category, if we extend its reach to "those who acted naturally or on purpose against others, but came back from the dark side", or something, which would include a few characters more (including the ursa minor, spike, the three ancient leaders etc.). On the other hand, it would include articles of antagonist personas of non-antagonists, such as Rarity for reformed Nightmare Rarity and Princess Platinum, or complete lists for one entry... which might not be clear to all if not precised. Symbol partial support vote Weak support - The category in itself will do no harm. But as per Imperfect, there are little candidates that would fit into the category. But, I have no objections, hense my support.   343TheGuiltyProphet
