Return to Father Knows Beast

Could this episode really add to Spike's character?[]

Depending on whether or not this dragon is actually Spike's dad, I have the feeling this episode is going to be the start of something new for Spike! As Spike's character description says, he is unclear of his destiny, and Meghan McCarthy mentioned something about Spike being something more than just Twilight's assistant. I think this episode could be the start of that! Whatever this dragon is gonna say is gonna open up Spike's eyes to newer and different things, while at the same time, he's never going to forget his close bond with Twilight!

Even though Molt Down changed Spike's looks, this episode could change Spike's perspectives on things! He never had a father-like figure (as we know of)! Is this dragon gonna be his real father though? I think so! He looks like him! But hey, we're not gonna rule anything out here! This series has surprised us many times! This episode has a ton of different story paths! The potentials for this episode are pretty much endless! --Mega Sean 45 (talk) 22:34, August 19, 2018 (UTC)

The episode certainly has a lot of potential if they do it right, and don't just rehash the old "Spike's family are ponies even though he's a dragon" routine. There certainly could be more to him than just being Twilight's assistant, though exactly what that might be is hard to guess. Given his apparent role as friendship ambassador to the dragons, maybe he'll end up going to spend some time in the Dragon Lands. Certainly, his bond with Twilight will not go away, though if they pick up from where Molt Down left off it would make sense to see him "growing up" by some means other than just getting a pair of wings.
Yeah, there's been no real indication of a father figure in Spike's life, unless he had a tighter relationship with Night Light than we've been led to believe. Personally, I doubt this dragon is going to be his father-there's too much skepticism implied in that description. My hope/guess would be that this dragon is an imposter-whether Chrysalis in disguise or just some dragon with an ulterior motive-and that Spike's real family will be revealed and hopefully appear to straighten things out. Of course, Spike will naturally want to spend some time with them, which could lead to him leaving Ponyville at least for a time.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 02:20, August 23, 2018 (UTC)
I actually think he is real! I mean I know you really want his dad to be Burnferno, but how can ponies make a story about a dragon if they didn't know much about them when the story came out? Unless this dragon is Burnferno after his time! I know he looked blue from the book, but yunno how many different looks Clover the Clever had? Besides, he's got a ton of resemblances to Spike! Also he has Smolder's eyes (a little darker blue though, but eye color changes through age), which further supports that theory!
But that said, we'll see on Monday! At least we might get a clue by Monday! Then we'll know for sure in 2 weekends! I'm just really hoping for an origin story in this episode, or this episode leads to the origin story and it's gonna be a story arc! Seems pretty pointless and insulting to get people hyped up for a potential Spike origin episode and it ends up being a dud like Dragon Quest. Especially since the series is almost over! This would be the best time to do it! Then it can be expanded upon next season in an episode!
Yeah, this dragon being Burnferno... that's a good idea! That would definitely encourage Spike to learn everything from him about being a dragon! I mean that's his idol, and it would be more realistic for him to win Spike over! --Mega Sean 45 (talk) 02:55, August 23, 2018 (UTC)
Well, I was right about the dragon being an imposter, and Smolder and Spike's interaction in this episode seemed pretty good. However, it seems as though this episode didn't really do anything else we were hoping for. We got an imagined look at Spike's mom, a fake dad taking advantage of him, and no info on Smolder's family. On top of that, we got the same old "ponies are Spike's real family" moral we always get with Spike, and he turns down the whole trip to the Dragon Lands thing that could actually have led somewhere. Hopefully season nine will do a better job with him.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 02:02, September 2, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I gotta admit this episode was everything I didn't want it to be. I don't even mind the "Ponies are Spike's real family" message, I actually really love the ideas of non-blood families, but I wish they'd do more with it. We just hear them say it, but they never really do anything with it. That said, the episode seemed to confirm that at least on some level, Spike and Twilight see each other as child and parent rather than the best friend/brother-sister relationship, which is interesting.--Darkanine: The Dork of Steel (T/C) 04:05, September 3, 2018 (UTC)

Burnferno Foreshadow?[]

To be honest, I'm actually glad Sludge wasn't his real dad. I'm really going with Kil's idea that Burnferno is Spike's true dad, but could it happen still? After all, the book did appear!

It had a cameo in here!

And a foal said that Spike looked like him - and he kinda does! Makes ya wonder if this is actually foreshadowing. I won't get anyone's hopes up though - I ain't getting mine on, but still!

Bonus points if he turns out to be Smolder's dad too! Perhaps Sweet and Smoky could tell us! If Burnferno is Smolder's dad, that pretty much seals the deal! --Mega Sean 45 (talk) 20:46, May 1, 2019 (UTC)

We’ll just have to wait and see my friend. I’m actually curious whether Smolder’s parents will be touched on in Sweet and Smoky or if it’ll just be her brother.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 00:39, May 2, 2019 (UTC)
