Return to Pony of Shadows

The Pony of Shadows will most likely be featured in a later episode, due to the omnious ending of Castle Mane-ia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Feral Inferno (talkcontribs)

He may be Tirek himself. Xeoxer (talk) 20:03, May 10, 2014 (UTC)
It can't be Tirek; he is a Minotaur - four legs and two arms. The Pony of Shadows is most likely to have four legs like most ponies do. I suspect it's a new character. --The Railfan Brony 06:55, October 24, 2014 (UTC)
But we only really see his face. Plus, when he first appears, his hooded cloak makes him look like a pony. Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 06:10, November 4, 2014 (UTC)

We don't see the Pony in Power Ponies because it is daytime, suggesting that it is nocturnal. One of the developers (can't remember who) said that we would see a return of Nightmare Moon in season 4. Nightmare Moon did return in Princess Twilight Sparkle - Part 1 and 2, but as a flashback. The Pony of Shadows might have something to do with this so-called 'return'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Feral Inferno (talkcontribs)

The shape of the body and glowing eyes are similar to Zecora's, indicating that the Pony of Shaows may be a zebra. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cogneato (talkcontribs)

Shortly after Castle Mane-ia aired, Rainbow Dash and the Daring Do Double Dare was released, featuring a zebra. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cogneato (talkcontribs)

The actual "pony of shadows" may be nothing more than a legend, or legitimately left over nightmare magic from Nightmare Moon. The figure that appears in the end of the episode, however, may or may not actually be the same character. It had the glowing eyes of Zecora, but Zecora is never given reason to be there. It could be Tirek, as he appears later in the season under a hooded cloak. However, the spanish word for "shadow" is "sombra." Well, we'll be seeing the true Pony of Shadows soon enough-whether or not the Castle Mania sighting will be confirmed as having been them is another matter.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 08:08, September 4, 2017 (UTC)

I'm also curious to see whether the whole "Nightmare Moon magic" story from Granny Smith actually plays into the Pony of Shadows' origins.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 20:36, September 12, 2017 (UTC)

So, it's official-the figure from Castle Mane-ia couldn't have been THE Pony of Shadows, because he was stuck in limbo for roughly a thousand years. So it was either Tirek or some other mysterious hooded figure; also, apparently not related to Nightmare Moon at all. --Kilmarnock228 (talk) 09:22, October 28, 2017 (UTC)

Possibility of Return

Given the nature of the Pony of Shadows, I'd say it's entirely possible we could see it return in some media or other. The darkness that joined with Stygian to create the Pony of Shadows still exists, and could potentially escape/be brought back to Equestria by some other evil. Were it to do so, I would imagine that it would either seek to reunite with Stygian or else seek out another pony to merge with. Were this to occur in the show, Chancellor Neighsay seems a likely prospect, with the darkness taking advantage of his xenophobia; Prince Blueblood might also be an interesting choice, and I could see the darkness playing on his vanity. There's also the possibility that the darkness could choose an unwilling host.

Were the darkness to make it's return in the comics, the obvious candidate for it to seek out would be Shadow Lock; otherwise From the Shadows would seem fairly hollow. However, the comics also contain another way by which A Pony of Shadows could pose a threat: namely, the fact that an alternate version exists. This version swore to find the prime universe's Stygian, and perhaps was only halted by the fact that Stygian became the Pony of Shadows and was then stuck in limbo for a thousand years. Now that he's back and no longer one with the darkness, there's every chance his dark doppelganger could return in search of vengeance...--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 09:33, May 24, 2018 (UTC)
