Return to Tempest Shadow

So with the upcoming "Tempest's Tale" story arc in the Friendship is Magic comics, some questions have been brought to mind with regards to her backstory and struggles:

  • As pointed out by the Rotoscopers episode on the film, it seems a tad odd that Tempest is apparently a unique case. Has there never really another unicorn to get their horn broken off? And is there really no way it could have been mended by someone in Equestria-perhaps a magical healer along the lines of Radiant Hope?
  • Came up in a conversation with one of my siblings: where the heck was Tempest's family? Neither the movie nor The Stormy Road to Canterlot showed or said anything about her parents or any other relatives. Are we supposed to assume that she's an orphan? Or that her family was apparently just as apathetic with regards to her broken horn situation as her friends were in the film?
  • One that came to my own mind: if Tempest is traveling about spreading word of the Storm King's defeat, what sort of state has she left his old army in? While the credits and The Great Princess Caper seemed to indicate that they'd become friendly, who's to say that's universal? And with the Storm King gone and Tempest not leading in his place, who's in charge?--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 08:09, May 7, 2018 (UTC)

The Next Captain of the Guard

I think Tempest is going to be the next captain of the guard in Shining Armor's place. We've all wondered who would be the next captain after Shining, and it appeared for a long time that the royal guard would remain useless. And then Tempest is reformed. If anypony can get the guards into shape and take their jobs more seriously, Tempest can. Tempest doesn't take nonsense and is a straight to business pony. She could even teach the guards how to fight more effectively without their magic and even probably have the blacksmiths forge armor made from the same material as the Storm Warriors. When Tirek returns for Season 8, perhaps the guards will be a little more efficient against him with Tempest's teachings.--Nighlocktheawesome (talk) 16:33, June 12, 2018 (UTC)

The idea of Tempest as a new guard captain is certainly an interesting one. She definitely has the qualifications for it, and it would be nice to see more diversity among the royal guards. The fact that they're all stallions in the present day is kinda sad. My more cynical side interprets it as either all the stallions want to hang out with the gorgeous princesses-mainly Celestia-all day, or that Celestia enjoys having a bunch of good-looking guys waiting on her all day.
Unfortunately, there are two major limiting factors to Tempest receiving such a role. First off, I think it unlikely she'll return in the series unless Emily Blunt is up for TV voice acting; Tempest doesn't seem like a character who would be recast. Secondly, I recall seeing on Twitter some time back that somebody asked Big Jim if Tempest might appear in such a role. Unfortunately, I fear that the fact that the questions was asked pretty much kills any chance of it happening, as it would be seen as accepting a fan-submitted idea. The same thing was reported as killing any possibility of a team of "Anti-Wonderbolts"; you can find the sources over on the List of unused characters in the Workshop.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 21:57, June 15, 2018 (UTC)
