IDW Endless Summer—My Little Pony is a special-edition comic released by IDW Publishing as part of its summer-themed event "IDW Endless Summer". In this comic, Sunny Starscout feels bummed about summer coming to an end, and her friends come together to cheer her up.

Summary[]

The comic begins with Sunny Starscout looking at photos of herself and her father Argyle Starshine in a photo album. When she sees a butterfly enter the Crystal Brighthouse and fly out a window into the warm summer weather, Sunny gets the idea of having a summer outing of food and games with the rest of the Mane 5.

However, a cold breeze suddenly blows, and a leaf falls onto Sunny's book, indicating to her that summer is almost over and souring her good mood. As the Mane 5 discuss their plans for the next day, Sunny's friends notice her sudden change in mood, and Zipp Storm quickly deduces that it has to do with the impending change in weather. At Hitch Trailblazer's suggestion, the ponies decide to cheer Sunny up.

The next day, as Sunny closes up shop at her smoothie stand, the rest of the Mane 5 set up roadblocks on the path leading to the Crystal Brighthouse and force her to take a different path with several stopping points on it. At the first stopping point, Hitch reminds Sunny of her favorite fall season activities, like carving pumpkins, making candy apples, dressing up for Nightmare Night, and playing in piles of leaves. While she is still bummed about summer nearly ending, Sunny feels a little better than she did earlier.

At the second stopping point, Zipp and Pipp Petals remind Sunny of her favorite winter activities, such as snowball fights and enjoying hot chocolate. Sunny slowly starts to realize that she has been stubborn about not letting summer go, and once again, she feels a little better than before. At the third stopping point, Izzy Moonbow reminds Sunny of her favorite springtime activities, including enjoying freshly blooming flower gardens and making flower crowns. By the end of this little road detour, Sunny seems fully cheered up from her bad mood.

The next day – the last day of summer – Sunny's friends show up to surprise her and invite her out for one last summer outing before the season officially changes to fall. Sunny realizes that the reason she did not want summer to end was because of all the summer memories she used to make with her father. The rest of the Mane 5 make it clear to Sunny that they will never replace her father and will help her keep his memory alive by making and sharing new memories with her. The comic ends with the Mane 5 enjoying the last day of summer with jet-skiing and paragliding on the water.

Quotes[]

Sunny Starscout: Aw! I love this photo of Dad and me. We made so many great memories that summer.
Sunny Starscout: Whoa. That was cooler than a summer breeze. It was more like a... fall breeze.
Hitch Trailblazer: Anyone else notice the sudden change in Sunny's mood?
Izzy Moonbow: Seasons, please chime in.
Hitch Trailblazer: Fall here, ready to go.
Pipp Petals: Winter reporting in!
Zipp Storm: We're all set.
Izzy Moonbow: Great. I'll get to my spot so I can be ready to spring into action.
Hitch Trailblazer, Pipp Petals, and Zipp Storm: Izzyyy!
Sunny Starscout: I wish there were a way to make it summer forever. Dad would probably have some great ideas...
Hitch Trailblazer: What are some of your favorite fall activities?
Sunny Starscout: I forgot how much fun I used to have in the fall, especially with Dad.
Pipp Petals: What are some of your favorite things to do in the winter?
Pipp Petals: Snowball fights?
Sunny Starscout: Absolutely! My dad and I used to have some epic fights.
Sunny Starscout: You want to know what I like to do in the spring?
Izzy Moonbow: How'd you know I was going to ask?
Sunny Starscout: I had a hunch.
Sunny Starscout: I love your flower crown.
Izzy Moonbow: Oh, this? Just something new I made. Do you want to make one?
Sunny Starscout: I would love to. I used to do something similar with my dad.
Izzy Moonbow: He sounds like a fellow creative after my own heart.
Sunny Starscout: I was really down about summer ending, and at first, I thought it was because I didn't want the good times to end. But after everything I did with each of you, I realized it was because of all my happy memories with my dad.
Pipp Petals: We could never replace someone as special as your dad.
Zipp Storm: But we're here to help keep his memory alive and make new memories with you along the way.
Pipp Petals: We know at the end of the day, summer is your favorite season.
Izzy Moonbow: And even if we can't make summer stay... it can be summer forever with the memories we make!
