Jayson Thiessen is a former supervising director and executive producer for My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. He is credited as supervising director for season one through the first half of season five and co-executive producer for seasons four and five. He is the consulting director on My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games and on the second half of season five, beginning with Canterlot Boutique. Thiessen has also directed My Little Pony Equestria Girls, the Friendship Games animated shorts, and My Little Pony The Movie, and he co-directed My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks and its animated shorts.
During the conception phase for the series in 2010, show creator Lauren Faust and Hasbro signed Studio B Productions (later renamed to DHX Media) to animate, and Studio B pitched Thiessen to be supervising director, which Faust agreed with.[1] Thiessen's initial reaction to the position was "brace for girly overload", but he became excited once he saw Faust's development materials.[2]
When Faust departed from the show in 2011, Thiessen assumed the role of showrunner for season two in her place.[1][3]
Thiessen is credited for several stories in the series, including Pinkie Pride, Princess Spike, Party Pooped, and Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? Little, Brown and Company's official My Little Pony Friendship is Magic guidebook The Elements of Harmony contains an introduction from Thiessen.[4] His wife Jocelan is a storyboard artist for the series.[5]
For his work on the series, Thiessen was nominated for "Best Direction in an Animation Program or Series" for Party of One at the 2012 Leo Awards.[6]
Thiessen's professional credits include being assistant director and co-director for Disney's Pucca, for which he was also nominated for a Leo Award in 2006; a storyboard artist for Cartoon Network's Ed, Edd n Eddy; a graphics designer and supervising animator for Aaagh! It's the Mr. Hell Show!; and animation director for George of the Jungle.
