My Little Pony: Kenbucky Roller Derby #4 is the fourth issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: Kenbucky Roller Derby comic miniseries. In this issue, Sunny Starscout and her friends attempt to raise money for the Kenbucky Roller Derby entrance fee, but the Sandy Shore Slammers hinder their efforts.

Summary[]

Sunny Starscout and her roller derby team – the Maretime Bay Brawlers – continue practicing for the Kenbucky Roller Derby, with Izzy Moonbow creating new plays and formations. However, Sunny realizes that, with how busy she has been practicing, she forgot to pay the Kenbucky Derby entrance fee. With only a week until the entrance fee is due, the Mane 5 brainstorm different fundraising ideas, and Sunny proposes a "Disco Derby" that incorporates elements of all of their suggestions.

As Sunny and Zipp Storm hang up advertising flyers in a sporting goods store, the antagonistic Sandy Shore Slammers, who happen to be shopping in the store, overhear them talking about how much their derby team has been improving. Flank the Tank and Tina Two Bits of the Slammers observe the Brawlers' next practice and witness their improvements firsthand, and at their next qualifying match for the Kenbucky Derby, the Brawlers secure a resounding victory. Realizing Sunny and her friends are virtually guaranteed a spot in the Kenbucky Roller Derby, the Slammers decide to sabotage their fundraising efforts.

To celebrate the Brawlers' qualifying match win, Pipp Petals decorates their gymnasium for the upcoming disco fundraiser. However, when the time comes for the fundraiser to be held, they discover the decorations and party supplies are all gone. As ponies start to arrive for the fundraiser, Sunny quickly comes up with a solution using Izzy's tabletop role-playing expertise to turn the disco party into an impromptu mystery party instead. Team coach Tracy Tailspin commends Sunny for her quick thinking and coach-like instincts.

The Sandy Shore Slammers arrive to undermine Sunny's team even further, pointing out the lack of activities they originally advertised. In the ensuing confrontation, the Slammers inadvertently reveal that they were the ones who stole all the fundraiser supplies, and they quickly run away. Despite the Slammers' sabotage, Sunny and her friends successfully raise enough money for the Kenbucky Roller Derby entrance fee, and Sunny declares it is time to pack for the upcoming competition.

Quotes[]

Izzy Moonbow: It's giving cheese wedge, and we're going for pyramid.
Izzy Moonbow: I've never seen that many numbers in a row.
Pipp Petals: Well, except for my follower count.
Zipp Storm: One time I was dragon-sitting Sparky and let him go rogue on a whole bag of lava rock licorice during a movie. Now, that was a mistake. Poor kid's farts almost burned down the theater.
Zipp Storm: I'm still amazed you got all our ideas into one event.
Sunny Starscout: I'm still amazed Izzy got it all on one poster.
Flank the Tank: Threat level?
Tina Two Bits: Annoying but not alarming.
Announcer Pony: The Brawlers have won, 8 to 4.
Flank the Tank: Threat level?
Tina Two Bits: Rapidly climbing.
Flank the Tank: Their spot at the Derby is basically guaranteed.
Tina Two Bits: Not if the fundraiser never happens.
Flank the Tank: Tell me more...
Tracy Tailspin: You are remarkably resourceful, y'know.
Sunny Starscout: Izzy's the one doing all the work!
Tracy Tailspin: Sure, but you're the one who knew she'd be good at it. That's not just captain behavior. That's coach behavior.
Sunny Starscout: Izzy took a mini-disaster and made it fun. In fact, my entire team has struggled, taken hits, and they keep coming back because it's fun. Can you say the same? Cause no pony on the Slammers seems to have any fun, except when they're being mean.
Flank the Tank: We had a great time stealing your fundraiser supplies! Uh--uh--
Tina Two Bits: What Flank means is...that was a joke?
Sunny Starscout: You're the best team I could ask for. I wanna stand here and list all the unique traits I love about each of you...
Zipp Storm: But?
Sunny Starscout: But we've got to pack for Kenbucky!
