My Little Pony: Maretime Mysteries #2 is the second issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: Maretime Mysteries comic miniseries. In this issue, Misty, Sunny Starscout, Hitch Trailblazer, and Sparky Sparkeroni find themselves trapped in a cursed board game and are forced to play it in order to break the curse and escape.

Summary[]

Now freed from his board game prison, the evil spirit explains the rules to Misty, Sunny, Hitch, and Sparky: they cannot leave the game area (Maretime Bay is enclosed in a giant magical dome), they cannot call on outside help, and they must win the game before time runs out (indicated by sand in an hourglass). Before disappearing, he tells the ponies to search for their first clue "beneath the radiant sun" at a place in town "where laughter flows free" and "sunbeams grace a cup of tea". Misty recalls, during her earlier search for the tea shop, someone mentioning an establishment called the Sunshine Cafe to her.

On their way to the Sunshine Cafe, Misty and her friends notice the ponies in town magically stuck doing everything in reverse, including walking. At the cafe, Sparky finds the first clue under one of the tables. The clue tells the ponies to search for their next clue on "a path that's not earth nor air, where colors arch in the sky with flair" while also warning that the ponies around them will start to suffer amnesia. Hitch believes the clue refers to Rainbow Bridge. On their way to Rainbow Bridge, Sunny points out to Misty some of the spots in Maretime Bay that they can check out together once the board game's curse has been lifted.

On the Rainbow Bridge, the ponies find the next clue floating among a group of butterflies. This one instructs them to "go down by the shore, where there's treasure from the ocean deep and where water dances and seashells sleep". They determine this clue points toward Seashell Fountain. Once there, yet another clue tells them to find a "guardian of moments" "where time ticks and tocks" and that their journey ends "where hands meet and messages send". As Sunny looks at her phone wishing she could use it for help, Misty realizes the clue points to the giant clock on top of the town's post office. There, the ponies find a flame-shaped crystal on the clock's face.

The evil spirit of the board game reappears before the ponies, congratulating them on their progress thus far but warning that the sand in the hourglass has almost run out. He gives the ponies their next challenge: to find the place "where history's secrets hide and tales of old reside" and uncover the flame-shaped crystal's origins.

Quotes[]

Misty: Hold on, you mean this enchantment is for real?!
Sunny Starscout: What?! I thought this was just some old board game!
Hitch Trailblazer: Enchantment?! As in a curse?!
Misty: I brought this curse to Maretime Bay... It's all my fault.
Sunny Starscout: Misty, don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known the game was cursed.
Hitch Trailblazer: Sunny's right, Misty. We're in this together, so we're going to fix this together.
Game Spirit: Finally ready to believe the enchantment is real and play my game?
Misty: Not only are we ready to play your game but we're going to win and break the spell, too!
Game Spirit: Confident. I like that.
Misty: Somewhere in town "where laughter flows free...
Sunny Starscout: I mean, that could be anywhere in Maretime Bay, depending on who you're hanging out with.
Hitch Trailblazer: True. Though we can definitely rule out the dentist.
Misty: Unless you're talking laughing gas.
Hitch Trailblazer: Ew. That's just... wrong.
Hitch Trailblazer: [to Sparky] Oh, c'mon. Please hand over the gum. Hey! Don't eat that gum!
Sunny Starscout: This bakery has the best cakes... when they remember how to make them.
Sunny Starscout: Maybe we can use my phone for help.
Hitch Trailblazer: The phones won't help. Remember the rules? We can only rely on one another.
Game Spirit: Now the fun truly begins.
Misty: We're not giving up, so you may as well tell us what's next!
Game Spirit: Oh, I most certainly will, as your time is almost done.
