Mr. Hoofington and Mrs. Hoofington are male and female unicorn ponies and supporting characters in the hour-long special My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip. They are a married couple of bakers/pastry sellers, residents of Hope Hollow, and former residents of Manehattan.
Design[]
Unlike other Hope Hollow residents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington speak with an upper-class American accent typical of high-class characters such as Hoity Toity.
Depiction in the series[]
In My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington appear as a married couple of bakers and pastry sellers in Hope Hollow, having moved there from their original home in Manehattan. They first appear having a minor argument with each other before bumping into a grumpy Moody Root. When they see the Mane Six enter town with their bright colors standing out against the town's grayness, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington run away in fright. During The End of the Rainbow, they appear in flashback attending and selling pastries at past Rainbow Festivals.
Later, when Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy take on the task of making food for the Rainbow Festival, they run into Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington again and ask them to be the festival's official baking team. The couple uses their own apricots in their pies, but due to Hope Hollow's lack of color, they are unable to distinguish between ripe apricots and unripe ones, usually resulting in pies that taste bad. Pinkie and Fluttershy encourage the Hoofingtons to reach out to Moody Root, whom they live next door to and whose apricots are very ripe. With Pinkie and Fluttershy's help, the Hoofingtons and Moody rekindle their friendship, with Moody agreeing to taste-test the Hoofingtons' pies. This act contributes to the progressive return of color to Hope Hollow.
Later, the Hoofingtons and Moody Root deliver cartfuls of pies to the town square for the Rainbow Festival. Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington reconnect with more of their fellow Hope Hollow residents, and they regain their colors as the festival gets underway. The Hoofingtons later celebrate the return of the town's color with the Mane Six and the rest of Hope Hollow during the song Living in Color, and they watch as the Mane Six leave in their repaired hot air balloon.
Other depictions[]
My Little Pony (mobile game)[]
Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington are characters in Gameloft's mobile game, added in the "Rainbow Roadtrip" event.
Mobile game descriptions[]
Mr. Hoofington
A talented Manehattan baker who left in search of small-town life. Pity his ingredients aren't always the best...
Mrs. Hoofington
Her baker husband's muse--and biggest fan. Pity she doesn't talk to her Hope Hollow neighbors as much as she should.
Merchandise[]
In My Little Pony: Essential Handbook: A Magical Guide for Everypony, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington are mentioned in the four-page recap of Rainbow Roadtrip's story on pages 56-59.
Personality[]
When first introduced, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington are shown to be as dour as most other residents in Hope Hollow following the town's loss of color, and they have frequent tense encounters with their neighbors, particularly Moody Root. Having relocated from Manehattan to Hope Hollow to escape the big city's crowded streets of unsociable ponies, the two ironically became just as unsociable after the small town became colorless. Their high-class background also causes them to occasionally turn their noses up at others, as shown in their initial encounter with Pinkie Pie. However, after spending time with Pinkie and Fluttershy, Mr. and Mrs. Hoofington become friendly and cheerful again toward their neighbors, sharing the pastries they make with other Hope Hollow residents. The two are also shown to be a very loving husband and wife, calling each other pet names and sharing open displays of affection.
Quotes[]
- Mrs. Hoofington: Don't pout, dear. It'll wrinkle your withers.
- Mr. Hoofington: I'm not pouting, sweetums, but I am hurt by your comment. I thought the pie I baked was quite tasty.
- Mrs Hoofington: I didn't say it wasn't.
- Mr. Hoofington: You didn't say it was.
- Mrs. Hoofington: [to Pinkie Pie] We're not interested. Ugh, it's getting so a pony can't even walk down the street without being terrorized.
- Mrs. Hoofington: The apricots are from our very own tree.
- Mr. Hoofington: In our very own yard.
- Mrs. Hoofington: Behind our very own house.
- Mr. Hoofington: We weren't born here. We're originally from Manehattan.
- Mrs. Hoofington: But it was so big. All those ponies crammed together, never talking to each other. Ooh.
- Mr. Hoofington: We heard Hope Hollow was just the opposite, so we moved here.
- Mrs. Hoofington: And it was wonderful... uh, for a while.
- Mr. Hoofington: Just old Moody Root.
- Mrs. Hoofington: He's made it quite clear he won't share his apricots. He hasn't even said "hello" in ages.
- Mrs. Hoofington: Mr. Hoofington did all the baking.
- Mr. Hoofington: Mmm, inspired by you, Snookums.
- Mr. Hoofington: Who wants apricot pies? Best pies in Hope Hollow!
- Mrs. Hoofington: Pies for sale! Yummylicious!
