My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock is a special-edition Generation 5 comic released by IDW Publishing as a tie-in with the hour-long animated special of the same name. It is a collection of four stories that take place at the titular music festival.

Summary[]

An Equestrian Exposition: One Day of Peace & Music[]

At the Bridlewoodstock music festival, Izzy Moonbow, Jazz Hooves, and Rocky Riff are making flower accessories for festival attendees at Izzy's "flower-fication station" tent. Jazz asks why Izzy has not given away a glowing crown she made out of Lumi-Bloom flowers, but Izzy fears doing so would be bad luck and might attract the voice-stealing Troggles.

When two ponies named Magpie and Whitney – each of them fans of different bands – show up and express interest in the Lumi-Bloom crown, it sparks an argument between their two fan groups. Their fight over the crown causes it to lose its glow. In an effort to make peace between Magpie and Whitney and restore the crown's glow, Izzy leads them around the festival to show how ponies came together to celebrate their love of music. However, Magpie and Whitney argue the entire time over which of their favorite bands is better.

When Magpie and Whitney come across a performing band that neither of them likes and see their fans enjoying their music, they realize neither of their favorite bands is better than the other, just different, and they agree to split the Lumi-Bloom crown in half and share it. The crown starts to glow again, and overjoyed that Magpie and Whitney have made peace, Izzy excitedly tosses the crown into the air, causing it to get snatched out of the air by a pigeon.

Magpie and Whitney are not upset over the loss of the crown, and when they return to Izzy, Jazz, and Rocky's tent, they see their fellow band fans still arguing and step in to break up the fighting.

Drop the (Lost the) Mic[]

Sparky Sparkeroni is lounging around by the Mare Stream and eating snacks when he notices a Troggle steal Pipp Petals' lucky microphone. Sparky chases the Troggle around the festival grounds to get the microphone back, but it manages to evade him. When the Troggle notices the bright red mane of a passing Pegasus and mistakes it for a ruby, it drops the microphone in order to follow the red-maned pony. Sparky returns Pipp's lucky microphone to its original spot before Pipp discovers it missing.

A Bad Case of Aponyia[]

Cherry, the lead singer of the band The Hoofpicks and the red-maned pony in the previous story, has lost their voice after the Troggle that followed them stole it. Their unicorn bandmate Ellie Lane, familiar with the Troggles' legend, gives Cherry a ruby necklace to wear. With the Hoofpicks having to perform on stage in just a short while, they call on Zipp Storm to investigate and find a way to get Cherry's voice back.

Pipp believes the loss of Cherry's voice was caused by something else, and she also makes it clear that she does not really like the Hoofpicks' style of music. As tensions start to flare among the Hoofpicks over their predicament, Cherry notices the Troggle that stole their voice and follows it to a secluded area in the forest. They offer up the ruby necklace Ellie Lane gave them; the Troggle accepts Cherry's offering and returns their voice to them.

Cherry returns to the Hoofpicks' backstage area with their voice restored; they do not reveal how they got their voice back. Pipp, remorseful of what she said earlier about the Hoofpicks' music, compliments Cherry on their singing talent and wishes them luck onstage. Cherry returns Pipp's compliment, and the Hoofpicks finally perform.

I Waited All Day in the Merch Line and All I Got Was This Lousy Hat[]

Eleven hours before the Hoofpicks' performance, best friends and huge Hoofpicks fans Peony and Columbia are excited to see their favorite band together. Despite Columbia wanting to spend the day with Peony, Peony wants to get some Bridlewoodstock-exclusive Hoofpicks merchandise and promises to meet up with Columbia shortly.

Peony expects to spend only a brief time in line for the Hoofpicks merchandise booth, but she ends up being there for over ten hours. When she is greeted by Sunny Starscout, Peony bemoans having left her best friend alone all day and struggles with the decision of missing out on exclusive Hoofpicks merchandise or missing her favorite band perform. Sunny tells her that making memories is more important than merchandise and that not having merchandise does not make her any less of a fan.

Peony takes Sunny's advice and abandons her merchandise prospects to enjoy the rest of Bridlewoodstock with her best friend. Just as the Hoofpicks' performance begins, she meets up with Columbia at the front of the crowd, to Columbia's delight.

Quotes[]

Izzy Moonbow: Peaces! Loves! Friendships! Enjoy the festival!
Jazz Hooves: Why haven't you given anypony that fancy glowing crown?
Izzy Moonbow: The Lumi-Bloom crown? Oooh, I don't know.
Izzy Moonbow: Luckily, nopony's even asked about this one!
Magpie and Whitney: Excuse me? I'd like that glowing one, please.
Rocky Riff: Oooooh, spoke too soon.
Magpie and Whitney: I'm sorry, but I saw it first-- Hey, no, I did! JINX!!!
Whitney: Huh. They look like they're having fun.
Magpie: Yeah, totally. Even though Foals is kinda--
Magpie and Whitney: --weird.
Magpie: I guess music is kinda fun! ...Even music you don't like all that fun.
Whitney: And I guess we don't have to argue about who's better. They can just be different.
Whitney: I think we all realized something pretty important today.
Izzy Moonbow: The airspeed velocity of an Equestrian pigeon--
Whitney: Not that.
Pipp Petals: At least, at this point, nothing else can go wrong, right?
Izzy Moonbow: Oooh, let me tell you about this thing called speaking too soon...
Pipp Petals: You know, Sparky, it, like, wouldn't hurt you to come out and help just a little. You look like you've barely moved!
Ellie Lane: None of you grew up on stories of Troggles and all the nasties that go with them. A Troggle's got the face of a pig and the appetite of one, too! They'll steal your voice and eat your soul!
Pipp Petals: How many times do I have to say it?! There's no. Such thing. As Troggles!
Pipp Petals: Maybe it's for the best that Cherry can't sing! Their songs are so dark and, like, unusual.
Zipp Storm: It's okay to not like somepony's art and still recognize that it took a lot of time and a lot of effort to make.
Mayhem: You heard Princess Pipp! There's no such thing as--
Ellie Lane: Don't you finish that sentence, Mayhem, or I'll bust your drums!
Cherry: So, a Troggle, huh? You're not so scary. But I know it's easy to be judged by what we look like. Ha! Or sound like.
Pipp Petals: Hey, um, Cherry? You have a beautiful voice. Really. I'm, like, super glad you're here to make the ponies happy. I'm super glad they get to see your sparkle.
Cherry: Thanks, Pipp. I'm glad they get to see yours, too.
Columbia: Aw, Peony! I was looking forward to spending the day with my absolute bestie.
Peony: Hiya! How long have you been waiting?
Pony 1: We've forgotten the taste of fries. The sound of music. Our own names--
Pony 2: It's been 30 minutes.
Sunny Starscout: At the end of the day, it's memories that are superpowerful, right? And maybe having those memories will be a bit better than having the merch? Though I gotta admit, the merch is cool. And whatever you decide, you know that you don't become less of a fan, right?
Columbia: Oh, thank glow! I thought you were gonna miss it!
Peony: This? Not for anything.
