My Little Pony #10, titled together with My Little Pony #9 as The Case of the Missing Unity Crystal, Pt. 2 in trade paperback, is the tenth issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony comic series, based on the Generation 5 film My Little Pony: A New Generation, and the conclusion of the story arc that began with Issue #1. In this issue, the Mane 5, armed with a message from the past, think they finally have enough to stop Discord from destroying magic.
Summary[]
Still trapped in the cage suspended over a gorge that Discord left them in at the end of the previous issue, the Mane 5 lament their situation, fearing that at any moment Discord will have destroyed the Pegasus Unity Crystal and magic will be gone forever. Sunny Starscout is especially despondent after all of her efforts to bring magic back and unite Equestria. Izzy Moonbow voices the concerns she has had about magic since Issue #1 but is confident that Sunny will bring ponies together in the end.
With newfound confidence and a plan to stop Discord, Sunny rallies her friends together to break free of their cage. Hitch Trailblazer summons a group of bunnies to chew through the ropes keeping the cage suspended; as the cage falls, Sunny and Izzy use their magic to catch it before it crashes. The bunnies carry Zipp Storm away into a nearby cave and beckon the rest of the ponies to follow. Inside the cave, the ponies are lifted upward by a steam vent to where Discord is about to destroy the Unity Crystal in lava.
Sunny, Hitch, Zipp, and Pipp Petals try various attempts to take the Crystal from Discord, but their fading magic is no match for his chaos magic. However, their efforts are just a diversion for Izzy to get in close and play for Discord a recording of the message Fluttershy left him in Issue #6. Hearing Fluttershy's voice again and listening to her words causes Discord to waver in his mission, and when Izzy shares with him what she has learned over the course of this adventure, Discord surrenders the Unity Crystal.
The Mane 5 return the Crystal to its place in the Crystal Brighthouse, and magic is restored across Equestria. Sunny finally apologizes to Izzy for making her feel left out, but Izzy has already forgiven her. The issue and story arc ends with the ponies and Discord engaging in a new game invented by Zipp that includes all pony races.
Quotes[]
- Izzy Moonbow: Anypony have any snacks left? If I don't have sugar every hour, my mood gets wonky, and things are bad enough already.
- Sunny Starscout: All I wanted to do was bring magic back to Equestria. I thought it would make things right. But all it's done is make us fight and argue about everything.
- Izzy Moonbow: Having magic around changed everything in Equestria. Everypony's been so busy figuring it out for ourselves that we haven't really considered what it means for all ponykind. That's why it can sometimes feel like our magic is dividing us. And it's not that it makes me angry or want to fight with anypony. It's that it scares me... ...But I know it doesn't have to be that way.
- Pipp Petals: This silence is either a very good thing or a very bad thing.
- Pipp Petals: I'm gonna go ahead and say that this time Zipp's silence is a very bad thing.
- Discord: I'll always protect the Equestria you believed in... ...Fluttershy.
- Izzy Moonbow: You've got a voicemail.
- Discord: I can't see this again. I can't see her. Please don't make me watch.
- Fluttershy: Our magic does make us different... ...And that's something we should embrace... ...both in ourselves and in others. Our powers let us be the best versions of ourselves. I mean, who would Rainbow Dash be if she couldn't fly? And yes, our powers might threaten some ponies, but if we're able to use what makes us special in unity, I know we can create the Equestria we always dreamed of.
- Discord: That was a long time ago. Fluttershy hadn't even experienced the worst of it when she recorded that message.
- Izzy Moonbow: But she would say the same thing if she were here now. I'm not saying I've never felt left behind. But mistakes happen. My friends showed up for me today when it really counted. And we got all the way here because we know that what makes us special alone makes us even more powerful together.
- Sunny Starscout: I did it, Dad. I made it to Canterlot.
- Sunny Starscout: I owe you an apology. You were right. When magic came back, I was so excited about my powers that I let it get in the way of our friendship. That wasn't fair to you. I know it will take time, but I hope one day I can earn back your trust.
- Izzy Moonbow: You can't. Because you never lost it.
- Pipp Petals: You heard it here first. Zipp's ego is now ten times as big as it was when this whole thing started. And that's not the only thing that's changed in Equestria. It's definitely been an adventure for the books.
