My Little Pony #18 is the eighteenth issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony comic series, based on the Generation 5 film My Little Pony: A New Generation. In this issue, Pipp Petals and Zipp Storm, having had their lives magically swapped by the wish-granting nymph Milkyway, continue to deal with each other's duties and pressures.
Summary[]
Pipp Petals and Zipp Storm continue to live each other's lives after the wish-granting nymph Milkyway magically switched them, with Zipp rehearsing for the royal concert and Pipp overseeing preparations for the royal dinner. However, both of them quickly get overwhelmed with their respective duties. When Zipp sends an invite to her fans, the Zippsqueaks, to come and watch her rehearsal, the fillies quickly make excuses and say they cannot attend.
As Zipp, Sunny Starscout, and Izzy Moonbow go to visit the Zippsqueaks, Zipp notices everyone nearby giving her strange looks of disapproval while watching something on their smartphones. She borrows one of their phones and sees they are watching an interview by Carotang, the musician that Pipp snubbed in Issue #16. After being snubbed, Carotang is now badmouthing Zipp to her fans and giving her a negative public image.
Against Sunny and Izzy's advice, Zipp confronts Carotang and tells him to stop spreading lies about her or else she will blacklist his musical performances in Zephyr Heights. Unfortunately, Carotang had deliberately left his microphone on, causing Zipp's threat to be broadcast to everyone in Zephyr Heights, making her look even worse in the eyes of her followers.
Meanwhile, Pipp decides to forego the royal dinner's traditional style in favor of one that specifically caters to ponies' social media interests. She has the royal dinner feature a variety of activities and carnival rides, with a giant mud bath as the center attraction. However, a mishap involving a runaway Ferris wheel and the mud tank causes mud to make a complete mess of the dinner hall. The issue ends with both Zipp and Pipp feeling like failures at each of their tasks.
Quotes[]
- Pipp Petals: This soap smells waaaay too strong. Defs go with that one.
- Pipp Petals: I just chose my favorite soap...
- Queen Haven: These are for the downstairs bathrooms.
- Zipp Storm: What did you think of the performance? Start with the positives.
- Izzy Moonbow: The lights went out when you tripped!
- Zipp Storm: That's a positive?
- Izzy Moonbow: Yeah! It was too dark to see you fall. And if it's too dark for anypony to see you fall, did it ever really happen at all?
- Peach Fizz: I don't think we can make it. We're really tired.
- Seashell: Sick.
- Glory: Busy.
- Peach Fizz: We're busy being tired because we're so sick.
- Pipp Petals: Soap? How are there more soap options?!
- Queen Haven: These are for the west wing bathrooms.
- Zipp Storm: Peach Fizz, Seashell, Glory--you there? We brought a get-well basket with tons of tasty goodies.
- Izzy Moonbow: Actually, I think there are only a few tasty goodies left... My tummy got rumbly on the way over.
- Carotang: Zipp looked me straight in the eye and said she'd never support me or my music. She made it clear that if I even mentioned the name of my new single at her concert, she'd badmouth me to everypony in Zephyr Heights. [...] I just wanted one tiny little shout-out in one tiny little ClipTrot.
- Sunny Starscout: Carotang is lying about all of that! Pipp's the one who offered to mention him in her ClipTrots. She wanted to help. But Carotang came in yesterday and basically tried to take over the concert.
- Zipp Storm: Pipp likes to take the path of least resistance. Talking to her fans is easy. But I know how to confront a situation head-on. And that's the bravery it really takes to be an influential pop star.
- Zipp Storm: If you don't come clean to everypony out there, I'm going to make things really difficult for you.
- Carotang: Is that a threat?
- Zipp Storm: ...Maybe it is.
- Carotang: My bad. Looks like I forgot to turn my microphone off.
- Hitch Trailblazer: Why is there a Ferris wheel here?!
- Pipp Petals: It's all part of the Pipp-tastic royal dinner experience!
- Pipp Petals: If you see Zipp, make sure to tell her it's going to be the greatest royal dinner ever. So much better than she could possibly do herself...
