My Little Pony #6 is the sixth issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony comic series, based on the Generation 5 film My Little Pony: A New Generation. In this issue, Sunny Starscout and her friends hunker down to dig into Discord's past to find clues about where he could be hiding with the Pegasus Crystal.
Summary[]
In their efforts to find Discord, the Mane 5 closely monitor Canterlot Castle for a clue about his whereabouts. When Pipp Petals notices an anomaly about the security camera pointed at the cave where the ponies first met Discord, the ponies deduce he has secretly gone back there. Under the castle, they find Discord's animal companion Reginald Fursome packing things up for travel and believe if they follow Reginald, he will lead them to Discord.
The ponies follow Reginald out of Canterlot and through a wooded area, with Izzy Moonbow expressing reservations about shadowing him and wanting to approach him as a friend. The others, however, believe Reginald is loyal to Discord and will alert him at the first opportunity. When they consider confronting Reginald directly, Izzy loudly protests, causing Reginald to hear them and run off.
The ponies determine that Reginald was following the nearby river and believe they will find Reginald and Discord if they keep doing the same. During their journey, Sunny brings up how distant Izzy has been since they first met Discord. Remembering how Izzy felt left out and abandoned by her friends in Issue 2, Sunny assures her that they did not mean to make her feel that way.
The ponies soon find their way to an old cottage and animal sanctuary that they believe Discord was using as a hideout. After questioning a local squirrel and enticing it with acorns, the ponies enter the cottage basement and discover a crystal. Izzy inadvertently activates the crystal with her magic, causing it to play a recorded message left for Discord by the Pegasus Fluttershy.
In a flashback, in the early days of when the pony races started to turn against each other, Discord tried to keep Fluttershy from visiting a unicorn filly named Water Lily after she and her family stopped trusting Pegasi. Once Discord came to believe magic could destroy Equestria, Fluttershy left him a recorded message telling him that the pony races' different magics should be embraced instead of rejected.
As the ponies listen to Fluttershy's message, the squirrel from earlier grabs a Daring Do book and leaves in secret. In another location, the squirrel delivers the book to Discord, who believes it holds the key to destroying the Pegasus Crystal and ridding Equestria of magic forever.
Quotes[]
- Sunny Starscout: The nights and days blend together in an endless vortex that I now think signals the end of time itself. I can't take it anymore!
- Zipp Storm: We need to make sure we keep an eye on every inch of the castle. So if you absolutely need to blink, make sure it's a fast one.
- Izzy Moonbow: Ooh, if you cross your eyes, the colors miiix together.
- Pipp Petals: How obvious do I have to be for you to realize I've discovered something in the footage?
- Rest of Mane 5: You found something?
- Pipp Petals: Embarrassingly obvious is the answer.
- Sunny Starscout: Time to head back to Canterlot!
- Pipp Petals: And ruin another impeccable manicure... for a nobly cause, of course.
- Pipp Petals: I might as well have livestreamed Mom discussing the health benefits of dragon fire tea.
- Zipp Storm: Now that was rude.
- Sunny Starscout: You've been distant ever since our run-in with Discord. I know he mentioned you felt left behind in Canterlot when we split up. I hope you know flying off without you wasn't personal. If you could fly, we obviously would have invited you, too.
- Izzy Moonbow: Oh yeah... Abso-lutel-lutely...
- Hitch Trailblazer: Oh no! That's horrible news!
- Sunny Starscout: What is it? What's wrong?
- Pipp Petals: Has Discord found a way to destroy the Crystal and turn us back into miserable, meaningless, magicless ponies?
- Hitch Trailblazer: Oh, I don't know about any of that. But this little guy says his friend hid all his acorns from him, and he's been stuck here searching for them for the past two hours.
- Izzy Moonbow: This is the prettiest crystal I've ever seen! And I once saw a crystal whose name was Pretty.
- Water Lily: My parents say there's nothing for me to learn from a lowly Pegasus who can't even levitate an apple.
- Fluttershy: If our magic separates us--
- Discord: It can destroy us.
- Fluttershy: I was going to say it can also bring us together...
- Fluttershy: I'm creating this message for you in the hopes that every time you feel overwhelmed, you can listen back and remind yourself why anger is not the answer. Our magic does make us different... And that's something we should embrace... Lead with your heart, Discord. It will always show you the way.
- Discord: With this book, we can finally create peace by ridding Equestria of magic once and for all. Now let's get moving. We have a Crystal to destroy.
