Copies,[1][2][3][4] duplicates,[5][6] clones,[6][4] and/or doppelgangers[4] are artificially-created individuals modeled after preexisting other individuals. Various copies/duplicates/clones/doppelgangers appear in the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic episodes Too Many Pinkie Pies, The Saddle Row Review, Uncommon Bond, and The Mean 6, the IDW comics' My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #15-Issue #16 story arc, a storybook whose Polish title is Nieszczęścia chodzą parami, and Gameloft's mobile game.

In the episode The Mean 6 and/or the Gameloft mobile game's Friendship Day adaptation thereof,[specify] Queen Chrysalis performs a spell using photos of the Mane 6, a hair taken from each of them, and an engraving of their cutie marks into tree trunks to create duplicates of the group. Though each copy closely resembles their counterpart, there are noticeable differences:
- When compared to the originals, all of the duplicates have somewhat muted colors, disheveled manes and tails, and in the mobile game original-changeling-resembling different attires.
- Mean Twilight Sparkle demonstrates evil ambitions and contempt for her teammates and creator. In the mobile game, she wears a black scarf—reminiscent of the real Twilight Sparkle during the IDW comics' My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #44 and Issue #45 and as "Empress of Ponyville Twilight Sparkle" in the mobile game—and has black fabric wrapped around her left hooves.
- Mean Applejack's cutie mark—the same as Jonagold's toy-and-saa_type01_master_03.pvr cutie mark—has green apples rather than red, and she displays the tendencies of a pathological liar. In the mobile game, she wears a black hat and neckerchief—similar to alternate universe Applejack from the IDW comics' My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #18, Issue #19, Issue #20, and Issue #32 Larry's Comics cover RE. She also has black fabric wrapped around her right front hoof.
- Mean Fluttershy's cutie mark has the butterflies' wings blue and the bodies pink instead of vice versa. She exhibits cruelty towards her teammates and towards animals, taking particular delight in the misfortunes of others. In the mobile game, she wears a black bandanna around her head, black shoes, and has black fabric wrapped around her back right leg.
- The diamonds in Mean Rarity's cutie mark are arranged and colored differently from the real Rarity's. She is also possessed of kleptomaniac urges, hoarding any objects she perceived to be of value. In the mobile game, she wears a black cloak or dress, and black boots on her front hooves that expose the tips of her hooves.
- Mean Pinkie Pie wallows in boredom, seeming to find nothing entertaining or interesting and belittling those who thought otherwise. In the mobile game, she wears a tattered black neckerchief, black shoes on her rear hooves, and has black fabric wrapped around her back left leg and the base of her tail. The yellow balloon on her cutie mark is lower than her two blue ones.
- Mean Rainbow Dash's cutie mark is reversed in orientation from the real Rainbow Dash's, and she displays no regard for others. In the mobile game, she wears a black neckerchief, black shoes on her rear hooves, and has black fabric wrapped around her back right leg.
After a series of confusing encounters with their original counterparts, the clones attempt to seize the Elements of Harmony. Chrysalis had created them for this very purpose, but Mean Twilight leads the group in a revolt to seize power for themselves. However, the Tree of Harmony recognizes the false nature of these copies and responds to their attempted theft by turning them back into pieces of wood. In the mobile game storyline, Chrysalis claims she must "erase the clones" due to their failure.

Mean Applejack:
If she wasn't serving Chrysalis, she'd probably be operating a three-card-pony scam in a Klugetown back alley somewhere. Better keep an eye on your Bits is all we're saying.
Mean Fluttershy:
There's no two ways about it...Fluttershy's evil doppelganger is just an ENORMOUS jerk. That's...That's about it, really.
Mean Pinkie Pie:
Pinkie Pie's evil clone is in a perpetual state of "bored into submission on a long carriage trip." And not even the fun kind of long carriage trip!
Mean Rainbow Dash:
Evil Rainbow Dash isn't even interested in HAVING a bio. That sounds like it would take...ugh...PARTICIPATION.
Mean Rarity:
We don't want to judge, but we're PRETTY sure Evil Clone Rarity has a hoarding problem. Also, a "being an evil clone" problem.
Mean Twilight Sparkle:
All the Twilight Sparkle intelligence--none of the Twilight Sparkle moral compass! Chrysalis had better watch her haunches around her scheming-est clone minion...
In Frenemies, Chrysalis retains Mean Twilight's remnant log.
