Rain Shine is a female Kirin who first appears in the season eight episode Sounds of Silence. She is the leader of the Kirin village in the Peaks of Peril.
Depiction in the series[]
Rain Shine first appears in Sounds of Silence after Applejack and Fluttershy arrive in the Kirin village. When Applejack wonders if any of the Kirin talk, Rain Shine points her in the direction of Autumn Blaze, who explains that Rain Shine ordered the Kirin to enter the Stream of Silence after vocal contention led to the destruction of their old village. Autumn Blaze found and took an antidote to reverse the stream's effects, leading Rain Shine to exile her from the village.
Later in the episode, when Rain Shine and the Kirin attempt to immerse Applejack and Fluttershy in the Stream of Silence, Autumn Blaze intervenes and ends up convincing them of the value of speech and expression. Once the Kirin's voices are restored through the antidote, Rain Shine thanks Autumn Blaze for her efforts in teaching them the error of their ways and invites her back to live in the village.
In The Ending of the End - Part 2, Rain Shine can briefly be seen among the allied creatures who appear to aid Twilight Sparkle and her friends in confronting Queen Chrysalis, Lord Tirek, and Cozy Glow.

My Little Pony (mobile game)[]
Several versions of Rain Shine are characters in Gameloft's mobile game. The standard Rain Shine has a prominent role and appears as a boss in two stages of the "Welcome Back Twilight" event, in which she visits the School for Gifted Unicorns in Canterlot. Due to misinformation, she briefly mistrusts the Changelings and wishes to withdraw Autumn Blaze as a guest teacher at the school. Rain Shine also has a somewhat prominent role in "Rin Rage", where she and Autumn Blaze come to Ponyville to assist with Twilight's preparations to visit an isolated community of Kirin. She becomes angered enough to assume Nirik form after Twilight and her friends are temporarily transformed into Kirin and ignore all her attempts to advise them. Nirik Rain Shine acts as both a boss battle helper and the final boss of "Rin Rage".
Chaos Rain Shine acts as a helper during the "Crowns and Chaos" event, the story of which sees Rain Shine accidentally transformed by Discord's chaos magic. The standard Rain Shine and Rainbowified Rain Shine are both boss battle helpers in the "Tale of Tirek Part Four" event, in which they appear as part of a magical simulation created by Twilight Sparkle for the School of Friendship students.
Rain Shine:
The leader of the Perilous Peaks' community of Kirin, Rain Shine played a decisive role in the Stream of Silence incident... and will help her neighbors through its undoing.
Chaos Rain Shine:
It's rare for her NOT to be in Nirik form, actually...
Nirik Rain Shine:
Like all leaders, she can get fed up sometimes -- but she tries to channel it into civic improvements. Lighting campfires, for example!
Rainbowified Rain Shine:
Rainshine shows everypony that Kirin aren't late to the party when it comes to colorful elegance.
Teenage Rain Shine:
Not keen on small talk, even as a teenager.
Personality[]
Rain Shine is initially portrayed as one-track-minded and stubborn, banning all speech and emotion after the village was destroyed. However, she is still a well-intentioned leader who is willing to listen to her subjects, even thanking Autumn Blaze for having helped her see the error of her ways.
According to Autumn Blaze, Rain Shine is also a wonderful singer.
Quotes[]
- "No more talking!"
- — Sounds of Silence
- "Autumn Blaze, you have given us a gift. The realization that anger is within us, but it is our choice how we let it out. We would very much like it if you came back to live with us. I can't say how much we've missed your beautiful voice."
- — Sounds of Silence
- "Twilight Sparkle. Hello. One. I am talking like this. So that I do not become overly angry. About how terrible Changelings are. And turn into a Nirik. Which would be inconsiderate. And two. No. I will not stop talking. About how terrible Changelings are. Because they are very terrible. Thank you for asking."
- — Welcome Back Twilight
- "Not to interject, but... perhaps it's time to acknowledge that this experiment was a bad idea? I notice that a lot of you ponies seem to be... how do I put this... reacting poorly to--"
- — Rin Rage
- "A Nirik? Yes -- and with good reason. You say Autumn Blaze and I were brought on as "consultants", but you ignored us at every turn...You cooed over your "new Kirin bodies" as if they were some strange novelty... WE have them every day! They're not something we can just put on or take off--And these Nirik forms?! THEY'RE JUST AS "NORMAL" AS OUR KIRIN FORMS! JUSTIFIED ANGER IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF!!! DIDN'T YOU LEARN THAT LESSON ALREADY?!"
- — Rin Rage
- "Yes... we Kirin did that for far too long. But after we regained our voices, we learned to keep our negative feelings in balance with our positive ones, and to accept both as natural! But it takes patience, understanding, and self-knowledge... And even if you mean well -- and I'm sure you all do -- that still takes time."
- — Rin Rage
