My Little Pony: Set Your Sail #4 is the fourth issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: Set Your Sail comic miniseries. In this issue, Pipp Petals and Izzy Moonbow are joined by their friends to get to the bottom of the Sparkling Sea's growing mysteries and secrets.
Summary[]
In the aftermath of the earthquake in the previous issue, Maris the Crow has become trapped in the sea chasm under the trenchponies' pirate ship, and Pipp Petals and Izzy Moonbow are unsure how to rescue her without risking causing another earthquake and trapping Maris even more. Luckily, Sunny Starscout, Hitch Trailblazer, and Misty arrive to help. As they work together to stabilize the ground around the chasm, Pipp and Izzy swim down into it to rescue Maris.
When Maris goes to retrieve the chest containing the trenchponies' sentimental treasures, she is horrified to discover that the chest and most of the items inside have been destroyed by the impact of falling into the chasm. One of the items, coated in a thick layer of dirt and rock, cracks open to reveal a glowing black sphere; Izzy and Maris believe it to be the real Shadow Pearl. Pipp and her friends get each other up to speed on what has been happening and decide finding Zipp should be their next course of action. Maris believes she can use the Shadow Pearl to do just that.
Back at the Sparkling Sea Kingdom, Queen Calla Lily continues to use her magic to conceal the kingdom's deterioration, but the more she uses her magic, the more earthquakes it causes. Meanwhile, Zipp Storm and Princess Anemone, on their way to save Pipp and Izzy, pass through a seapony marketplace that's been restored by Calla Lily's magic. The magical restoration quickly wears off, however, and the marketplace starts to crumble. Zipp and Anemone race to get the seaponies to safety before continuing on their way.
Through a telescope from her castle balcony, Calla Lily witnesses the crumbling state of her kingdom and sees Zipp and Anemone swimming toward the kingdom's outskirts and into the dark trenches beyond. There, another earthquake threatens to crush Zipp and Anemone with falling rocks. Calla Lily, desperate to save her sister but unable to swim to her in time, decides to use her magic once more.
Back in the ocean's trenches, Maris uses the power of the Shadow Pearl to restore the Galloping Ghost pirate ship to its original, pristine condition. As the Mane Six and trenchponies witness this miracle, Creeping Jenny remarks that the Shadow Pearl has finally been returned to its rightful owner: Maris the Crow, the queen of the Shadow Sea Kingdom.
Quotes[]
- Izzy Moonbow: Make sure not to raise your voice when you answer in case it causes another earthquake!!!
- Pipp Petals: Izzy, that's avalanches!
- Izzy Moonbow: Make sure not to raise your voice when you answer in case it causes another avalanche!!!
- Clipper: How are we leaking underwater?!
- Pipp Petals: Where in the hay are we going to get more magically inclined ponies around here?!
- Hitch Trailblazer: Sounds like a job for... these magically inclined ponies!
- Pipp Petals: What!!! Zipp's down here, too?!
- Izzy Moonbow: Aw, Pipp!!! Don't cry! Zipp loves you bunches. Of course she came down to investigate!
- Pipp Petals: I'm not crying. I just have, like, a piece of coral or something stuck in my eye!
- Izzy Moonbow: Do you think...Do you think that could be-- the Shadow Pearl?!
- Shore: Your Majesty...they're not the only land ponies down here anymore...
- Queen Calla Lily: What.
- Sunny Starscout: That's what Queen Haven received.
- Pipp Petals: That doesn't even look like me! My mane is parted on the other side, and last time I checked, I only have four hooves.
- Izzy Moonbow: Is my head really shaped like that?
- Princess Anemone: Is that too far for you to swim?
- Zipp Storm: Puh-lease. I could beat you across with one fin tied behind my back.
- Princess Anemone: Race you.
- Zipp Storm: Not much of a race!
- Maris the Crow: We need this ship to find our friends, to save the seas...Please. Please help us. Whatever you can do, please...
- Captain Starboard: How's our little crow doing this?
- Creeping Jenny: It's the Shadow Pearl, finally in the fins of its rightful owner.
- Captain Starboard: But that would mean--
- Creeping Jenny: Aye, it would.
- Captain Starboard: Maris is our queen.
