My Little Pony: Set Your Sail #5 is the fifth and final issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: Set Your Sail comic miniseries. In this issue, the Mane 5 and the trenchponies try to stop Queen Calla Lily from destroying the Seven Seas and the surface world.
Summary[]
In the trenches between the Sparkling Sea and the Shadow Sea, Princess Anemone is nearly crushed in a rockslide caused by her sister Queen Calla Lily's abuse of her magic. She avoids the falling boulders but hits her head on another rock and nearly falls into the abyss below before she is rescued by Queen Maris the Crow. With Anemone safe, Zipp Storm reunites with Pipp Petals and the rest of their friends.
Zipp explains to the others what has been happening and tries to make sense of the recent earthquakes. She recalls from Pipp's earlier radio broadcast that bringing the magical anchors of the Seven Seas together would bring catastrophe, but Maris has the Shadow Pearl, leading Zipp to the conclusion that Calla Lily made a fake version of it. Calla Lily then appears, the power of the anchors slowly corrupting her, and commands Anemone to get away from the trenchponies. Both Anemone and Maris try to reason with Calla Lily, but she refuses to listen. When she attempts to use the anchors to quell the raging seas, it instead causes a massive undersea storm that swallows up Anemone.
Calla Lily snaps out of her magic corruption out of a desire to save her sister, and with help from Queen Maris, she swims into the eye of the storm, where she reunites with Anemone. Calla Lily apologizes for not listening to Anemone's earlier warnings, and Anemone offers to help her sister set things right. The trenchponies rescue Calla Lily and Anemone from the storm, but when Calla Lily is nearly lost to the raging seas a second time, Maris saves her personally, causing Calla Lily to realize she was wrong about the trenchponies all along.
In order to quell the storm, Queen Maris separates Calla Lily's crown back into the six anchors that comprised it and destroys the fake Shadow Pearl. In the aftermath of this incident, the Sparkling Sea returns to normal, and its neighboring kingdoms slowly start to rebuild. Pipp organizes a seaside concert to finally debut her new song, and when Queen Maris and the trenchponies arrive as special invited guests, Pipp sings her song titled "Set Your Sail". As Pipp sings, Sparky Sparkeroni notices a map of the Seven Seas on the sails of the trenchponies' pirate ship. One of the locations on the map is a kingdom of seadragons.
Quotes[]
- Maris the Crow: You okay, Princess?
- Princess Anemone: Y-Yeah! And it's just Anemone!
- Pipp Petals: Aw, Zipp! You social media'd for me!
- Zipp Storm: Yeah, yeah. I didn't like it.
- Queen Calla Lily: Get. Away from them. Anemone.
- Princess Anemone: No. I'm staying here.
- Queen Calla Lily: What does a trenchpony know of crowns?
- Maris the Crow: We know enough ta recognize yours is tearing the seas apart.
- Queen Calla Lily: Still the waters, make all serene, obey the Shining Sea's one true queen.
- Princess Anemone: Are you okay?
- Queen Calla Lily: You almost died because of me! How dare you ask me if I'm okay?!
- Queen Calla Lily: I won't ever be able to say it enough, but I'm so sorry. You tried to warn me, and I didn't listen. I'm listening now. Can we talk?
- Queen Calla Lily: If everything we thought was a lie... how are we supposed to make things right?
- Princess Anemone: I don't know, Calla Lily...but it's our job to figure it out.
- Queen Calla Lily: Our?
- Princess Anemone: I'm not giving up on you, silly.
- Maris the Crow: Back off, barnacle breath, or face the wrath of the Queen of the Shadow Sea! That'd be me.
- Maris the Crow: These anchors were never meant to belong to one queen, just as the Seven Seas were never meant to be tamed. Like the tides, we must all go our own directions. We can come together and part ways in a rush of seafoam and salt, unified as allies... and friends. No enchantments shall hold us, no magic shall bind us, and we must promise to build a future where we can be united, even in our differences. Where we can go home.
- Zipp Storm: You're just so good at the whole princess thing!
- Pipp Petals: Staaaahp! You're ruining my mane!
- Two-Eyed Gilbert: Keep a weathered eyes out, mateys. Ya never know where the sails might set out next...
