The Blockywockys is the first half-hour special of My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale. It premiered on YouTube on April 4, 2024.

In this special, Izzy Moonbow suffers a creative mental block, preventing her from expressing her creativity, so she goes on a quest for inspiration. Meanwhile, the evil snow leopard Allura continues her search for the magical Nova Charm.

Development and production

Tell Your Tale season 2 was first announced in Hasbro's My Little Pony 2024 Franchise Overview, with "a total of 328 minutes" planned, with "four 22-minute episodes" included as part of that plan. The first special was announced to have an estimated premiere date of March 2024. On September 24, 2024, the My Little Pony Facebook and Instagram accounts announced that the My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale series would end on October 17.

Summary

Izzy's got the blockys

The special begins with the Mane 6 and the ponies of Maretime Bay singing Feel the Magic together in celebration of what appears to be another beautiful sunny day. The only pony who is not in the same spirits as everyone else is Izzy Moonbow; she wakes up still feeling sleep-deprived, accidentally spills her breakfast, and knocks over a flower cart during the song.

Izzy confides in her imaginary friend Señor Butterscotch that she has not been feeling very creative lately, struggling to envision anything new to craft. Turning to her friends, Izzy fears she is suffering from a severe case of creative mental block that she calls the "blockywockys". Realizing how much her mental state is hurting her, Izzy's friends encourage her to go on a quest for inspiration.

Meanwhile, in the forest outside Maretime Bay, the snow leopard Allura attempts to use her ice powers to keep her environment cold, but the warm weather melts the ice too quickly, prompting Allura and her rabbit minion Twitch to find a new hiding place. They eventually settle into a cave near the beach, enclosed enough to keep them hidden and for Allura to exert her ice powers comfortably.

Guided by the charm

Taking her friends' advice, Izzy journeys out of Maretime Bay and into the wider world beyond in search of inspiration to rid her of her blockywockys. She takes with her the Nova Charm she received from Violet Frost in My Little Pony: Secrets of Starlight. During Izzy's time away from home, her friends send her magical positive vibes through their cutie marks.

Using the Nova Charm, Izzy travels to various distant locations across Equestria via magic portal. First, she travels to Starlight Ridge and meets an Auroricorn fortuneteller named Stardance. Stardance does not know of any cure for the blockywockys, but she invites Izzy for a brief dance under the starry sky. Izzy then travels to the Dragon Lands, where the dragons have no cure for her blockywockys either but help her get her blood pumping with some sky-high trust falls.

Finally, Izzy travels to the underwater realm of the Jade Sea, where she meets a friendly seapony named Destiny. Destiny has never heard of the "blockywockys" but finds the word funny, explaining the seapony belief that "laughter can cure anything". Izzy becomes enamored with the colorful braids in Destiny's mane, and Destiny offers to show Izzy how to make them. The fun they share causes their cutie marks to react and blow Izzy out of the sea.

Let your magic run wild

Izzy emerges from the Jade Sea through a portal and ends up on the Maretime Bay beach, where the Nova Charm points her back toward the Crystal Brighthouse. As Izzy heads home, she passes by the cave where Allura and Twitch are now hiding out, and Allura notices Izzy wearing the Nova Charm around her neck. She takes advantage of this opportunity to ambush Izzy when she is alone and seize the Nova Charm from her.

On Izzy's way home, she discovers an abandoned fairground with broken-down games and rides. She envisions the different ways she and her friends can put the fairgrounds to good use and starts to get inspired. Feeling her creativity start to come back to her, Izzy lets her magic run wild, and the power of the Nova Charm brings her visions to life. The old fairgrounds are magically restored to pristine condition, and rainbow colors appear in Izzy's mane and tail.

When Sunny Starscout sees lights coming from the old fairgrounds, she and the rest of the Mane 6 go to investigate. There, they reunite with Izzy and witness the Nova Charm split apart into six fragments and transform the fairgrounds according to each of the ponies' personal tastes. With the Nova Charm fragmented, Allura bemoans the fact that she and Twitch are now trapped in Maretime Bay, and the two slink back into hiding.

Welcome to the Boardtrot

With the fairgrounds restored to working order, each of the Mane 6 has their own space or ride to enjoy: a larger smoothie shop for Sunny, bumper car teacups for Hitch Trailblazer and Sparky Sparkeroni, a high-speed rollercoaster for Zipp Storm, a beautification spa for Pipp Petals, a popcorn stand for Misty, and an arts-and-crafts store for Izzy.

After her adventure across Equestria, Izzy has come to the realization that she never had the blockywockys to begin with; she was just stuck in a rut, and meeting new ponies and having new experiences helped her get out of it. Izzy shares with her friends the colorful braided mane extensions Destiny taught her to make, and they christen their new hangout spot "the Boardtrot".
