My Little Pony: The Storm of Zephyr Heights #1 is the first issue of IDW Publishing's My Little Pony: The Storm of Zephyr Heights comic miniseries. In this issue, Zipp Storm takes her mother Queen Haven's place as ruler of Zephyr Heights while Haven takes a week-long vacation, right as the city experiences the storm of the century.
Summary[]
At the Zephyr Heights Palace, Queen Haven prepares to go on a week-long vacation to spend time with Alphabittle, and she appoints her daughter Zipp Storm to take her place as queen while she is away. Zipp initially objects to this, but when the rest of the Mane 6 arrive to assist her, she accepts the responsibility of her mother's crown, and Haven departs. As Zipp does does some royal paperwork, Sunny Starscout buries herself in some old texts of Equestrian history, Izzy Moonbow indulges in Queen Haven's royal craft room, and Hitch Trailblazer frolics with the animals in the royal gardens.
Some time later, Zipp finds Sunny and reminds her about the poster she saw in the abandoned station during the events of My Little Pony: A New Generation depicting Pegasi wearing blue and yellow flight uniforms; to this day, Zipp has yet to figure out the significance of this poster. In addition, Sunny is unable to find any ancient history texts about the Pegasi. When Zipp mentions the Pegasi's original homeland, Sunny believes she is referring to Cloudsdale, but Pipp Petals believes the city is just a myth.
As the ponies go to enjoy a day at the spa, they overhear a weather report forecasting a large storm in the following week. After their spa treatments, however, they discover it is snowing heavily. Zipp races to the castle, where her advisors inform her that the storm forecasted earlier has moved in much sooner than expected, coming to rest right on top of Zephyr Heights, and even tripled in size. The advisors recommend a full evacuation of the city before the storm worsens.
Taking charge of the situation, Zipp orders Sunny and Pipp to gather any outlying Pegasi on the city's edge, Izzy and Misty to lead a group of ponies and dig a clear path down the mountain, and Hitch to work together with the garden animals on crowd control while she herself goes to the TV station to make a public announcement. As the ponies head outside, they see Pegasi getting violently blown around by the harsh storm winds.
Quotes[]
- Queen Haven: We've been talking about this for weeks.
- Zipp Storm: Yeah, but I didn't think you were serious.
- Queen Haven: When have you ever known me not to be serious?
- Zipp Storm: Don't you remember that time I cut my own mane? It's gonna be like that!
- Queen Haven: I do remember that time. I also remember that's how you ended up with your little mohawk puff thing.
- Pipp Petals: That haircut works for you, but we wouldn't want all of Zephyr Heights to end up with it.
- Izzy Moonbow: Oooh! Can I get it, though? I think I'd look cool with a mohawk!
- Zipp Storm: My mom works really hard and deserves to spend some time with her...Alfie.
- Queen Haven: It really does sound just...disgusting when you say it, though. You should probably just call him Alphabittle.
- Pipp Petals: And this is the totally dusty old shelf full of history books our historians dug out of an archive or something. Seemed like your kind of thing, Sunny.
- Sunny Starscout: Ooooh!
- Sunny Starscout: Wait, I've never heard of Flash Magnus!
- Zipp Storm: We know that before Zephyr Heights, we lived somewhere else. But archaeologists have never been able to find the Pegasus homeland.
- Sunny Starscout: What about Cloudsdale?
- Pipp Petals: A city built in the clouds? A magical city where they train the fastest flyers? That's an old mares' tale, Sunny.
- Weather Pony: Make sure you get your playing in now because it looks like we have a bit of a storm system coming in for next week.
- Pipp Petals: Snow? But it doesn't snow here in the summer.
- Advisor Pony: It's this storm, your Majesty! It's like nothing we've ever seen!
- Zipp Storm: I thought it wasn't supposed to hit for a week!
- Advisor Pony: It wasn't, but look! It grew to triple the original size and intensity, and it moved much faster than expected. Now it's slowing down and it seems to be settling right over Zephyr Heights.
- Zipp Storm: You're telling me that on my first day as queen regent of Zephyr Heights, we need to evacuate the whole city?!
