Top Marks is a male unicorn pony lecturer with a blue coat, yellowish gray mane and tail, gold eyes, and a cutie mark of a golden laurel wreath. He first appears in The Cutie Mark Chronicles. He is unnamed in the show, but he is named in merchandise.

Depiction in the series

Top Marks first appears in the season one episode The Cutie Mark Chronicles as one of the examiners for filly Twilight Sparkle's magic test. At one point, he yawns due to Twilight taking a long time to complete her test. When Twilight loses control of her magic due to Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom, Top Marks is caught in Twilight's rampant magic and gets levitated into the air.

In season four, Top Marks appears in Equestria Games as a spectator in the stadium crowd.

In season five, he appears in The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 1 talking with "Crystal Clear" outside the School for Gifted Unicorns.

On My Little Pony Micro-Series Issue #8 page 5, Top Marks appears at the School for Gifted Unicorns Royal High Tea laughing at a story Gingersnap tells about Inkwell. He appears again at the Royal High Tea on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #40 page 16.

In the Enterplay collectible card game's expansion sets, Top Marks is named on his The Crystal Games #59 U card, which attributes to Twilight Sparkle the quote "Professor Marks's lectures were legendary. He just kept talking in one long, unbroken sentence, moving from topic to topic. It was really quite hypnotic...", and he is mentioned on the Marks in Time #83 R card, which attributes to notes taken by Top Marks during Twilight's entry exam "A disappointing display of magical prowess. It is my opinion that Ms. Sparkle is simply not of the caliber we here at the School for Gifted Unicorns have come to expect."
