Hitch Trailblazer: [spookily] Nightmare Night is officially upon uuuuus... todaaaaay!

Ponies: Huh?

Hitch Trailblazer: I mean... toniiiiight!

Sparky Sparkeroni: Yeah!

Hitch Trailblazer: [clears throat] It's the spookiest night of the year, and I've made sure tonight's is going to be our most exciting celebration yet!

Unicorn Mare: Huh?

Hitch Trailblazer: Pipp helped me with this "inspo" board, and we got something for everypony! Trick-or-treating! Costume contests! Trick-or-treating while participating in a costume contest! Wait, that was a typo. Where was I? Oh, yes! Pumpkin patches! And my favorite! Our annual game to find the "golden pumpkin"! Huh?

[beat]

Hitch Trailblazer: [hushed] Come on, Hitch. You're losing them. [aloud] Did I mention the winner will win a big mystery prize?!

Earth Filly: I want a prize!

Unicorn Mare: Okay!

Sweets: Yes! Now this is what I'm talking about!

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

Rocky Riff: Big prize?! I want that!

Jazz Hooves: So what do you think it is? A treasure trove of treats?!

Rocky Riff: A gourd dipped in gold?!

Jazz Hooves: Rocky, that's basically what the "golden pumpkin" already is.

Jazz Hooves and Rocky Riff: A treasure trove of treats dipped in gold!

Rocky Riff: Bet ya I can find it first!

Jazz Hooves: Not if I'm the first one racing! [laughs]

Rocky Riff: Hey, wait! No fair!

Hitch Trailblazer: All right, everypony! Have fun, stay safe, and make sure you check out every single event I've prepared!

Toots: Why? Is there a prize for that, too?

Hitch Trailblazer: Yes! The prize of a good time!

[beat]

Hitch Trailblazer: Okay, fine. Town meeting adjourned.

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

Hitch Trailblazer: Oh, no, Sparky! I forgot to hide the golden pumpkin!

[theme song]

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

Pipp Petals: Soooo? What's everypony's Nightmare Night costume?

Hitch Trailblazer: [gasps]

Pipp Petals: I'll start! I'm dressing up as a scary witch, not a cute witch! Mom would never let us go full spooky at home, so I'm makin' up for it.

Hitch Trailblazer: [gasps]

Zipp Storm: And I'm gonna be a vampony! The awesome kind.

Hitch Trailblazer: Wah!

Misty: And I'm gonna be a magician! Just a regular magician.

Mane 5 sans Hitch: Awww!

Izzy Moonbow: Good gourds!

Hitch Trailblazer: Ah!

Izzy Moonbow: That's what I'm dressing up as. My favorite gourds. Because they're all too precious to just pick one. And Hitch, stop sneaking around and tell us what you're gonna be!

Hitch Trailblazer: I'm gonna be a pirate with my trusty parrot Sparky!

Sparky Sparkeroni: Heyo! [gurgling]

Sunny Starscout: You're the cutest parrot I've ever seen!

Pipp Petals: Who's a parrot? You're a parrot! Yeah, you are!

Izzy Moonbow: So cute!

[indistinct chatter]

Hitch Trailblazer: Phew!

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

[poof!]

Sparky Sparkeroni: [panicked gurgling]

Hitch Trailblazer: You're really nailing this whole "parrot thing"! Great job, buddy!

[poofing]

Sparky Sparkeroni: [panicked gurgling]

Hitch Trailblazer: [laughs]

[phone beeps]

Sunny Starscout: [gasps] We're running out of time to get ready!

Pipp Petals: Let's go get spooky! Whoo!

Pumpkin Pony: Hey, where'd my pumpkins go?

[poof!]

[camera clicking]

Pipp Petals: Soooo? What are everypony's favorite Nightmare Night traditions?

Izzy Moonbow: Hmm—

Pipp Petals: I'll start! Mom always said, "Princesses are sophisticated, not spooky." But I've been flexing my scary side ever since I got here.

Izzy Moonbow: [screams] Ugh!

Zipp Storm and Misty: [laugh]

Izzy Moonbow: [laughs] Wow, you really got me there!

Pipp Petals: That's the "fear-fun factor"! When you scream the loudest, then laugh the hardest. It's my favorite!

Misty: Wait, so you ponies like being scared?

Pipp Petals: Uh, duh! It's what this holiday's all about. And why I'm planning the super-detailed haunted house of my dreams! I mean, nightmares! I'm turning the Crystal Brighthouse into... the Crystal Frighthouse!

Zipp Storm: Nicely done.

Pipp Petals: Thank you. I was working on that rhyme all week.

Izzy Moonbow: I love this idea, Pipp! What can we do to help? [gasps] Should I peel a bowl full of grapes and say they're eyeballs?!

Misty: What else goes into a "Frighthouse"?

Pipp Petals: It's basically anything your spooky heart desires! And then you make it your own.

Izzy Moonbow: Yeah, yeah, yeah! I always love to put up the weirdest, wildest lights display on the whole block!

Zipp Storm: I have to build my super-complex nightmare maze!

Sunny Starscout: And I must cook up a traditional spread of Nightmare Night food specialties!

Pipp Petals: Yes! Yes! A million times yes!

Misty: [gasps, laughs]

Jazz Hooves: As an Earth pony, I have the clear edge to win. I've been playing this game since I was a filly.

Rocky Riff: And as a newcomer, I have the clear edge. I can look at all the places you wouldn't think twice to.

Jazz Hooves: Yes, but I'll look thrice to the locations you'll think twice to look—

Rocky Riff: See you at the finish! When you're congratulating me on my prize!

Jazz Hooves: Hey, no fair!

[door closes]

Pippsqueaks: [laughing]

Pumpkin Pony: Huh?

Sweets: I'm gonna find me that golden pumpkin!

Posey Bloom: Not if I do first! Whoo!

Sweets: [laughing]

Opaline: [laughing maniacally] Ah, enjoy your leaves now, you silly ponies, because... Wait. Why are they enjoying leaves? Is this some weird gardening celebration?

[poof!]

Opaline: [screams]

[thud]

Opaline: [groans] Has Misty been decorating again?

[poofing]

Opaline: Huh. Hmm? Hmm...

[poofing]

Opaline: If their silly pumpkins can go from there to here, then... I may have finally discovered a path into Maretime Bay! One that Twilight never accounted for! [laughing maniacally]

[thunder crashes]

Pipp Petals: Kitchen prepped for Nightmare Night treats? Check! Trotway transformed into a maze of shadows? A-maze! Basement door turned into... Well, pretty much the same as it was before, but it was pretty spooky then! So that is a yes!

[alarm sounding]

Pipp Petals: [screams]

[alarm sounding]

Zipp Storm: [chuckling] Introducing the Ponydrone from a Tombstone! 'Cause it looked like a ghost. Get it?

Pipp Petals: Love it! Leave it! Make sure the sheet doesn't reveal it!

Misty: [humming] Oh! [chuckles] Oh, uh... [grunting] Whoa! Um, a little help?

Izzy Moonbow: [laughing maniacally] This'll be the most excellent acorn light show Equestria has ever seen!

[click!]

[lights humming]

Pipp Petals: Mostly because they won't be able to see anything else after. But still, great work!

[thud]

Pipp Petals: [grunts, clears throat]

Hitch Trailblazer: Pin the husk on the corn cob! Here it is! Your favorite Nightmare Night activity with... no line! And here it is! Your costume contest sign-ups! With not one, not two, but twelve different sub-categories! All the rules are on this handy dandy informational flyer!

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

Hitch Trailblazer: And no line for that activity either? Huh? Come on, ponies! You truly haven't experienced Nightmare Night until you've experienced all of it! Plan your night!

Misty: Wow! You did an amazing job transforming the kitchen into a mad scientist's lab, Sunny!

Sunny Starscout: Oh! Uh, actually, this is just how it normally looks when I cook.

[bubbling, clanking]

Misty: You look like you could use some help.

Sunny Starscout: Oh, no, I'm an old pro at this.

[clang!]

Sunny Starscout: Oh! But I guess an extra set of hooves couldn't hurt.

Misty: [laughs] So what are the Nightmare Night treats, anyways?

Sunny Starscout: Oh, just a few things. [inhales, speaking quickly] Apples for bobbing, caramel apples, apple spice smoothies. Oh! Juggling apples, carving apples, apples to draw spooky little faces on. [inhales] Fried apple spice donuts, baked apple cinnamon cobbler, frosted apple spice cakes, apple-flavored water, which is just like regular water but you add apple pulp to it. [inhales, sighs] So I guess it's technically a juice.

Misty: Mm-hmm. Wow. That's... a lot of apples.

Sunny Starscout: These Nightmare Nights treats were my favorite Nightmare Night tradition from when I was a filly. And I want everything to be exactly as I remembered it for tonight's Crystal Frighthouse. [gasps] So we gotta get moving!

[over timer dings]

Misty: I-I could... Hey, want me to pass...

[glass breaking, clattering]

Sunny Starscout: Thanks again for the help, Misty. I couldn't have done this without you!

Misty: Uh, sure.

[blender whirring]

[sombre music]

Opaline: Hmm... Ugh! Opaline, Opaline, Opaline. It's clear you're—

[poof!]

Opaline: ...the most brilliant Alicorn in the universe! Wow! Ha!

[poofing]

Pumpkin Pony: [grunting] Ow!

Opaline: Just as I suspected! That useless Together Tree I grew all those years ago has finally made a connection with another one! And the perfect one, at that. Which means I've discovered a magical tree network! Which means that pumpkin and ponies and me can travel between them! Ha! Take that, Twilight Sparkle!

[poof!]

Opaline: Aah! I mean... Take that, Sunny Starscout. Opaline's coming to town.

[owl hooting]

Sunny Starscout: Can we get started yet? We're so excited!

Pipp Petals: This haunted house has to be perfect. And right now, it's almost perfect. But we still need more cobwebs. More lighting! Just... more! [panting]

Izzy Moonbow: We'll all work together so we can get this done in ten minutes tops. All hooves on deck! Let's go, go, go! [blows whistle]

Pipp Petals: [sighs] Thanks, ponies. I appreciate it.

[indistinct chatter]

[sombre music]

Opaline: [laughing maniacally] Hello, Maretime Bay. It is I, Opaline Arcana, about to turn this night into a nightmare spectacular!

Sander: Oh, hooves! That was so cool!

Sugar Moonlight: Amazing!

Sander: [gasps] Do the laugh again! Do the laugh again!

Opaline: What?

Sugar Moonlight: And the entrance! Great entrance! But I missed that first part where you cackled. So you just pretend I didn't see your dramatic pose and try it all again, 'kay?

Sander: Oh, oh, oh! And can you say my Dad's name when you do it? It's Butter! He'd get a real kick out of this! [laughs]

Opaline: You're not scared?

Sugar Moonlight: Oh, yeah! Like, soooo terrified! [chuckles]

Opaline: FEAR ME!

Sander: "Fear me, Butter!"

Sugar Moonlight: Oh, wait! Is that, like, your catchphrase?

Sander: 'Cause we love it! [laughs]

Opaline: Argh! Stop filming me!

Sander: Yeah, that's it!

Opaline: Stop applauding!

Sander: Get angrier!

Opaline: UGH!

Pipp Petals: This maze is complete!

Rest of main ponies: [sigh]

Pipp Petals: With just one last ingredient...

Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, and Zipp Storm: [scream, laugh]

Pipp Petals: Fake spiderwebs feeling strong!

Rest of main ponies: [sigh]

Pipp Petals: With just one last touch...

Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, and Zipp Storm: [scream, laugh]

Pipp Petals: [chomps] Apple treats tasting delicious!

Rest of main ponies: [sigh]

Pipp Petals: Hmm... But you know what's missing?

Sunny Starscout: No, Pipp! There's no way you—!

Pipp Petals: I was gonna say a dash of nutmeg!

Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, and Zipp Storm: [sigh]

Pipp Petals: [evil chuckle]

Sunny Starscout, Izzy Moonbow, and Zipp Storm: [scream, laugh]

Zipp Storm: That better be the last one!

Izzy Moonbow: Pipp, you got us good!

Sunny Starscout: So good! [laughs]

Pipp Petals: [gasps] Misty, what's wrong? Why didn't you scream with the rest of the group?

Zipp Storm: Do you not find bats scary?

Pipp Petals: Would you prefer giant spiders?

Misty: Mmm-mmm. It's nothing personal, Pipp. I guess I just don't scare easy.

Pipp Petals: Until tonight. I'm going to make you my personal "Nightmare Night Challenge"! By the end of the evening, you are going to be screaming and laughing and sharing in all the spooky fun!

[doorbell rings]

Pipp Petals: [gasps] Showtime, ponies!

Jazz Hooves: Well, well, well. If it isn't Rocky. If that's your real name!

Rocky Riff: Well, well, well. If it isn't Jazz. Guess you're not the gifted golden-pumpkin-finder like ya thought!

Jazz Hooves: Or maybe I'm just not wanting to dish out all my secrets.

Rocky Riff: You must know somethin', 'cause I've checked every garden and flipped over every gourd!

Jazz Hooves: So have I!

Rocky Riff: Wait. If you've checked everywhere, and I've checked everywhere else... then where could it be? Unless Hitch's big prize... was just quality time spent with your closest friends.

[beat]

Jazz Hooves and Rocky Riff: [laugh]

Jazz Hooves: Nah! That's nuts!

Rocky Riff: Right?!

[pause]

Jazz Hooves: [laughs]

Rocky Riff: I'm gonna find the golden pumpkin!

Jazz Hooves: Not if I do first!

Opaline: Hmm...

[ponies laughing]

Opaline: Ugh! Why isn't anypony fearing me?! And what are these outfits? Fashion in Equestria has really gone downhill.

Sweets: Incredible costume! You look terrifying!

Toots: Oh, yeah. And your wings and horn are so realistic. May I?

Opaline: [hisses] Take another step and I'll banish you to the moon!

Toots: Yaaaaay!

Sweets: Whoo! Oh, yeah! Oh, I love that! Seriously, who are you supposed to be? Nightmare Moon?

Opaline: Your new worst nightmare!

Toots and Sweets: That was so good!

Toots: Seriously, can I hire you for my Nana's birthday? She'd love it!

Opaline: UGH! [growls]

Earth Filly: [screams, laughs]

[camera clicks]

Opaline: I'll show you what to scream about!

Posey Bloom: [gasps] Whoops! Sorry about that. Wow, look at you. Your costume's fab! And mine? Well, nonexistent. Mine's at my friend Windy's house. It's why I'm in such a hurry! Excuse me!

Opaline: No, no. Excuse me.

[magic sounds]

[sinister music]

Posey Bloom: [gasps]

Opaline: [hisses]

Posey Bloom: [screaming]

Opaline: I did it! But it's going to take me all night if I'm going to do this one-by-one. Maybe it's time to regroup and form a new plan. My work here is far from done! [laughing maniacally]

Izzy Moonbow: Now, do I need more lights on the left side or is it more frightening if they're uneven? Or... Oh, oh! Maybe I pile on all the lights on the left and leave nothing for the right! Or... no... [continues indistinctly]

Pipp Petals: Welcome, ponies one and all, to the spookiest Frighthouse where you'll have a ball!

["Monster Party" instrumental]

Zipp Storm: Agh! No! Why... did I... [muttering] ...very real ghost who's glitching so much, it's spoooooky!

Sunny Starscout: So, how's everypony enjoying the traditional "Petrifying Pomme Fruit Feast"? [laughs, snorts] "Pomme fruit" is another word for apples, which are being consumed in the exact wrong way!

[clattering]

Sprout: [slurping]

Sunny Starscout: Pipp! Didn't you promise to guide the ponies through the house so it wasn't a free-for-all?! This isn't anything like how it used to be when I was a filly! Pipp! Pipp? Hmm... I wonder what task she's so focused on now.

Earth Stallion: [grunts]

[thud]

Sunny Starscout: [gasps]

Misty: [humming]

Pipp Petals: Oooooh-hoo-hoo-hoo! I'm gonna get her!

[water running]

Pipp Petals: Blaaaaargh! Aww.

Misty: [sighs]

Pipp Petals: Blaaaaaaaargh! Part two!

[door opens]

Misty: Four, three, two...

[door closes]

Pipp Petals: Ugh! W-Wait, Misty! My hooves got stuck! Come back and I'll try again!

[clattering]

Pipp Petals: Aah! [grunting, panting] I... will... scare... you!

Sunny Starscout: [chuckling nervously]

[bird chirping]

[slurping]

Zipp Storm: [grunting] W-Watch out!

[drone buzzing]

[loud humming]

[ponies screaming]

Izzy Moonbow: [laughing]

[filly crying]

Sunny Starscout: [chuckles, screams, groans] Aah! This is not working! That's it! The Frighthouse is closed!

Pipp Petals: Why is everything messed up? We literally just opened our doors! Sunny, what happened?

Sunny Starscout: It was mayhem! Uh, sorry! Sorry! Here, have an extra apple spice donut while you go!

[clang!]

Zipp Storm: What the hay, guys?

Sunny Starscout: It just wasn't Nightmare Night.

Zipp Storm: But I worked all day on my ponydrone!

Izzy Moonbow: And I spent all afternoon trying to figure out which of my special acorn lights to string!

Misty: And we made some great food, Sunny! Well, you did. Made most of it. Okay, all of it. I only helped by getting out of the way. But we did it the traditional way.

Sunny Starscout: You're all right, but I guess I was just hoping that tonight's celebrations would be... like they used to be.

Misty: Where did we go wrong?

Sunny Starscout: I don't know, but somehow, we did. It was a total bust!

Pipp Petals: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait up! Even with the chaos, I didn't think it was a total bust!

[drone buzzing, thudding]

Pipp Petals: Ohhhhh, but maybe I was also too focused on scaring Misty and making the perfect Frighthouse to notice.

Izzy Moonbow: [chuckles] And I couldn't see anything beyond my lights.

Zipp Storm: [laughs] Well, nopony could. Okay, fine. I was a little too swept up in my gadgets.

[door opens]

Hitch Trailblazer: [panting] You guys are... already done your Frighthouse? I missed it?

Pipp Petals: No, I think maybe it was me who missed it. Uh, like the point, I mean. I started all this, and putting such high expectations of perfection on something is a recipe for disaster.

Hitch Trailblazer: Oh, tell me about it! I was just so focused on making this the "Best Nightmare Night Scare-a-thon in Maretime Bay Ever" that I forgot to consider Maretime Bay in the first place. What was I thinking? These ponies don't need twenty-seven events to fill a night and make it perfect.

Izzy Moonbow: Yeah. Not every holiday has to be perfect or exactly the same as it was last time, right?

[beat]

Izzy Moonbow: No, I'm genuinely asking. It doesn't have to be the same, right?!

Sunny Starscout: [laughs] No, Izzy. It doesn't have to be. I'm sorry for thinking it had to. I was just looking forward to recreating my special memories. It's just like with Wishday. I cherished the times I had with my dad so much, I guess I just wanted to share them with my best friends.

Misty: But can't you still, I mean, share your memories but also...

Hitch Trailblazer: Make new ones?

Zipp Storm: Even though holidays are about traditions, they're also about surrendering to the surprise of what this moon will bring!

Pipp Petals: And what's more surprising than Nightmare Night?

[beep]

Misty: [screaming]

Mane 6: [laughing]

Zipp Storm: Got you! Yeah!

Misty: You got me! You got me that time!

Mane 6: [laughing]

Pipp Petals: The Frighthouse is officially reopened!

[sinister music]

Opaline: Excellent. But I'll need more power. Much more. And I know just where to get it. [laughing maniacally]

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

[bird chirping]

Hitch Trailblazer: Sparky! Sure hope you're helping, not playing!

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling]

[clattering]

[shimmering]

Sparky Sparkeroni: [gurgling, sneezes, laughs]

Hitch Trailblazer: What did I just say? [gasps] Wow! Everypony! Get in here!

Sunny Starscout: "The Isle of Scaly"? [gasps] It's the Dragon Lands! It's a map that'll take us back!

Zipp Storm: We can finally warn them about Opaline!

Misty: And we better do it soon. Before it's too late.

[tense music]
