First off, I’m well aware that many people have made a headcanon that Celestia and Luna were alicorns ever since they were born. I myself have also read “The Journal of the Two Sisters” book that was written by Amy Keating Rogers years ago, and I know that G5 has frequently established there being a kingdom of alicorns called Skyros (which is a generic and questionable name, if you ask me). But, I’d really like to know something regarding these quotes from “The Crystalling”:
Princess Celestia: The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen!
Princess Luna: It is beyond even our understanding.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t this establish that Celestia & Luna themselves weren’t alicorns from the time of their births? And that, just like Cadance and Twilight, they became alicorns based on doing a deed so great that they earned their wings?
If they themselves couldn’t understand how Flurry Heart was born an alicorn, wouldn’t this also mean that an alicorn had never been born beforehand? Or that alicorns never had their own distinct race or establishment?

The main reason I’m asking this is because, for me, everything about these quotes appeared to be translating in my head that Celestia and Luna were obviously never born as alicorns themselves. And that this would make any chance of a place like Skyros existing highly unlikely.
But, what do you guys think?
