Hey guys. I haven't written a serious blog post on here, well, ever. Mainly because i've never found a topic that not only i took intrest in, but you all would too to discuss. So, let's talk about this!

Now, i am willing to bet there are people here among you that are fans of one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, Super Smash Bros. And if you're like me, you'll have seen the Nintendo Direct back in June and the Smash Bros Direct last month and had your mind blown away. Super Smash Bros ULTIMATE? As in... the ULTIMATE Smash Bros game? Sakurai ain't kidding! He's making all the right moves with this game to ensure it's worth more than it's $90 pricetag. With over 70 fighters, (including newcomers Inkling, Simon Belmont and longtime desired Ridley and King K. Rool) 103 stages, (300+ if all stages' Battlefield and Omega forms are included) over 800 songs, tons of brand new options to customize your Smash experience AND a supposed Story Mode assumed to be called "Spirits", there's no doubt about it that this deserves the "Ultimate" prefix. We're only 3 months away from the game's release, but i seriously cannot wait anymore. And i'm so eagerly suriouc as to see who'll be joining the already massive roster, both newcomers and echo fighters. I reckon in an upcoming Nintendo Direct, they'll tease some more fighters that fans have been requesting, and maybe some new ones that no one expected. If it's anything to go by, Sakurai seems to be using the Smash Bros Ballet as insipiration for new fighters. And while i can't remember who i voted in, i know there'd be a ton of characters i'd vote for.

So today, i ask you all a few questions:

  • Are you excited for the new Smash Bros?
  • Have you preordered it or thought about preordering it?
  • Who are 3 characters you'd love to see as newcomers?
  • Who are 3 characters you'd love to see as echo fighters? and who are they echoes of?
  • Are you excited that we very well may be getting a new Story Mode?

For me, it's a goal to preorder it before it hits the shelves. And there's quite a few characters i'd love to see, and i have a good feeling some of these will make it!
(Also, if you want to add reasons why you think a particular characters has very good chances of getting in, then i'm all ears!)

My Top 3 Newcomers[]

  1. Geno - Super Mario RPG. A very old character that only ever appeared in one game, (apart from that cameo in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga) which also happened to be the first Mario-themed RPG. He's quite a fan favorite even to this day, and Sakurai himself has even noticed the character and his tremendous popularity. He even wanted to add him in Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS, but it never turned out to be. So instead, he added Geno as a Mii Gunner costume so he could at least give fans something. I personally think he's a pretty cool character from what i played of Mario RPG, and i think this time, he's got a better chance than ever of landing a spot in the roster.

  2. Incineroar - Pokemon Sun & Moon. Every Smash Bros game has seen a new Pokemon rep: Smash 64 started with Pikachu and Jigglypuff, Melee brought in Pichu and Mewtwo, Brawl introduced Pokemon Trainer and his team of Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard, but lost Pichu and Mewtwo in the process. Smash for Wii U/3DS decided to make Charizard his own character while ditching Squirtle and Ivysaur, and saw the reveal of Greninja. And Mewtwo made his comeback as the first DLC fighter. This time, all the Pokemon fighters are back, and Charizard returned back to his Pokemon Trainer. So, i think it's no doubt we'll be getting another Pokemon rep, most likely a 7th gen Pokemon. I know people want Decidueye, but i honestly want Incineroar more. He could incoporate moves like Flame Charge and Fire Punch into his moveset, and his Final Smash could be Malicious Moonsault, the Z-Move version of Darkest Lariat. He'd knock all of his opponents in front of him into a fighting ring and crush them all with a firey, high impact bodyslam. It'd be so perfect, i tell ya'! I got hopes for you Decidueye fans, but i'm leaning more towards Incineroar on this one.

  3. Crash Bandicoot - Crash Bandicoot series. About a month or two ago, i considered that if Crash were to get into Smash Bros as a playable character, then what kind of moveset would he have? Apart from his regular moves being simple punches, kicks and whatnot, his specials would be some of his powers from his games. Like with B Neutral being this iconic spin. Players could repeatedly press the button to keep spinning, much like the Death Tornado Spin powerup. This could also be used to get a bit of extra air time, which was one of the useful functions of the Death Tornado Spin in the games it was present. His B Up would allow him to bounce off of a wooden Jump crate that spawns underneath him like the spring Sonic bounces off of for his B Up. The only difference would be that once this crate hits an opposing fighter, it would break after dealing some damage. Poeple can also jump off of it much like Sonic's Spring, but the crate could also be destroyed. Some alternatives would be bouncing off of a metal Jump crate that would fall to the ground faster, deal more damage to whoever was unlucky to be underneath it and couldn't be destroyed, except you don't bounce as high from it. Or maybe a TNT crate that would start it's timer once bounced off of and would deal nasty damage to those caught in the blast radius (including Crash himself) and attacking it wouldn't be an advisable option. Alternative Special Moves, maybe? His B SIde could be the Fruit Bazooka that would let you aim with the control stick as long as you had B held down, with a Wumpa Fruit projectile being fired upon the button's release. B Down would have him jump in the air and perform his Body Slam, or he'd just perform his Body Slam if he was in the air anyways. I never did think up a good Final Smash, but yeah, That's what i got.

My Top 3 Echo Fighters[]

  1. Shadow The Hedgehog - Sonic The Hedgehog series. I'm sure many of you bay have seen this coming, but that's because Shadow is very likely to be added. My reasons? Well, we haven't seen him as an Assist Trophy yet, rather we saw Knuckles as the Sonic Assist Trophy. Shadow is also one of the more popular Sonic characters, and people had been requesting him ever since his and Sonic's debut in Brawl. He showed up in Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS, but as an Assist Trophy yet again. However, if Smash 4 has taught as anything, it's that Assist Trophies CAN become fighters. Just ask Little Mac, who was once an Assist Trophy in Brawl, but earned a slot in the roster for Smash 4. He'd be a very easy echo fighter to make for Sonic, as both of them share a lot of the same moves in their original franchise. Heck, he'd even do well as a semi-clone, having a mixture of Sonic moves and unique moves of his own. And maybe instead of Super Shadow being his Final Smash, he could have the destructive power of Chaos Blast. All in all, i do think he'll be making it into the game and i welcome him with open arms. And if not as a base character, then perhaps as DLC later next year. I'd still be happy.

  2. Ken - Street Fighter series. So we got Ryu, one of the most iconic fighting game characters in gaming history in Smash Bros. First as DLC, now as a base game character. And i personally think it would be very easy to implement Ken as an echo for Ryu. Ken is practically the godfather of clone characters in fighting games. He and Ryu share such similar moves, so i think he'd be a perfect echo for Ryu. 1v1 Street Fighter in Smash Bros, anyone?

  3. Octolings Splatoon series. Again, another very easy echo fighter to implement. Except they'd have different hairstyles, different outfits, (with a Male and a Female version being based on Agent 8's initial appearance in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion) different animations and different weapons. They would use the Octoshot instead of the Splattershot, the Octobrush instead of the Inkbrush, and maybe either the Carbon, Dynamo or Flingza Roller instead of the Splat Roller. It would be neat to see these guys as Inking echoes and i think it has a good chance of happening, but probably as DLC. And just think, you could recreate the Inner Agent 3 fight by playing as Agent 8, and having an Inkling Girl with her Hero outfit as a Level 9 CPU (or even a Level 50 Figure Player) and see if you got the skills, Smash style.

Well, that about does it for me. I am so damn hyped for this game, and i know that Sakurai is going to be so happy once he sees that fans all over the world are enjoying the heck out of his newest creation. And i bet he's proud of what he's making. He's giving us the ultimate gift. The ultimate fighting corssover in gaming history. And that's just so damn beautiful. Let me hear your thoughts on the game, and your predictions!
