My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki

Aah, so refreshing ^^

um, a few things, if you don't mind :

  • Could you please re-run the stuff which gave you the stats (now on my userpage) six months ago ?
  • Could you please delete all of my personnal sub-pages related to line-svg (or should I mark each for deletion) ?
  • Also, what is the way to link to another wiki's page simply (now that I have language and foreign WP checked, in order maybe to have one centralized signature for all 'other' wikis to transclude ; maybe on C wiki ?) ?
    • and is subst on all wikis by default ?
  • I can't find another way to break paragraph lines at specific possible points but by using tons of nbsp, which is not very editor-friendly. Any magic trick (tried shy and wbr without success) ? it is for a songs' templates, for the lists to break after a bullet if break needed.
  • Also, is it possible for a template to adapt to the language of the page it is used on (like the css lang, or using the url ? it would give 'Thanks' on any wiki but the french, which would render 'Merci')
  • And is it possible to make ~~~ render the sig, but not be substituted (still appear as the ~ in the code, and always render the last version) ?
  • Also, what trick does the USERNAME template use ? Can it easily be copied to a third party page (it has a class I can't read the source of) ?
  • Also, may one define an edition link defining the beginning of a new section, but also defining the beginning of the title for said section (for example a link relative to a specific subject will automatically add a defined title, freely modifiable) ?
  • If I may add, how does one ask to the special prefixindex page not to mention the parent page name in the list (to make parent/page appear as /page) ?
  • Are there any classes to be freely used (not requiring sysop rights), that include css to replace sibling tag (display none to display block) on hover (and default sibling to none in this case), like hover1 and show1, hover2 and show2 ...? is there even one list of classes ?
  • Are there levels of protection (locked edit pages' rights) for "autoconfirmed users" and "email confirmed users" ?
  • Also, is there a way to automatically follow all of a wiki ? (incl comments, new pages...) in a soft manner (without asking it for each page and cat...) Thanks —  Drake  20:52, January 6, 2014 (UTC)
Yeesh, thought something was exploding when I returned to ten emails :P. Good use of the new space.

Byte change statistics for 0drake0 on
Positive changes: count 870, total 569527, average 654.63.
  Null changes: count 34.
Negative changes: count 130, total -125996, average -969.2.
Net change: 443531. Average change: 428.95.

  • Done (though I ran the above while they existed).
  • w:c:mlp:User:0drake0, for example. For community wiki you can just do w:User:0drake0. Yes, subst is default.
  • Not sure what you mean, what's insufficient about <br />?
  • CONTENTLANGUAGE (with #ifeq or #switch).
  • No, the tilde stuff is automatically converted when the text is saved. You'd have to do it manually. At least as far as I'm aware.
  • There's a bit of JS to support it. I recommend copying from w:c:templates:Template:USERNAME.
  • ?action=edit&section=new&preloadtitle=blah (use + in place of space, or just use ).
  • I don't think there's an option for that. You could use DPL instead.
  • Uhh, nope.
  • Nope. There might be a way to add that if you ask Staff, not sure.
  • You could use Special:EditWatchlist/raw and get a list of pages from AWB or something.
~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:31, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
Haha, you didn't receive just one e-mail for the first edit ? how's that (I receive 1 per page, regardless of number of edits) ?
thanks, thanks, thanks, and thanks, will look into all that.
so, vague eventuality of possible interwiki template, or definite no (or "see with staff") ?
br forces a break. a long line automatically breaks after some time, depending of the width of the display and stuff. What I am searching for is for the line to break only at certain specifically defined points of the line, not any given space.
urlencode ? can't find that template, what is it ?
Thought it was strange, stuff is either "all" or "sysop" but rarely inbetween.
Interesting link, but what I mean is that : is there a way to follow a certain page that reacts to every single change ?
For the rest, I guess It'll keep me at bay for now -3-
...Well, just one more question if you don't mind, sensei : how to make that new comments on a page don't trigger any e-mail alert, while the page's edits still do ? —  Drake  01:51, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
Interwiki template?
Have you tried style="white-space:nowrap"? That will only break on br /.
It's a magic word/function, search for it on the page I linked to for contentlang. I recommend bookmarking that page, it's quite useful.
Yeah, autoconfirmed is about it. I guess the people who made MediaWiki didn't think being able to restrict actions for particular pages to certain user groups was a big concern.
Uh, you mean like Special:RecentChanges?
Don't know. I've never used email alerts much. I only have the one checked to send me an email whenever my user talk page is changed. (That also answers your first question - that option sends an email for each edit.)
~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:08, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
...And we're back. Let's see.
  • I was trying to find a way to have a sig in one page, transcludable throughout all wikis. however, the only interwiki template apparentlyworking is, as you said, a mw template on c (which I understand as protection from vandalism). Any way I could do something simple without having dozens of characters pasted each time ?
  • span style="white-space:nowrap" does it perfectly (each stopping before wanted possible break). Do you think it would benefit the wiki to create a nw template ?
  • Wow, this is... something. Ifeq and switch look quite nice too. any possibility to have a { {REVISIONTIME}} (or at least a complete timestamp separated with hyphens) ?
    • It seems to treat of default universally accepted wiki code. However, a lot lacks on fr.mlp (many things added manually, lacking images etc.). I think the starter pages miss a lot, how do you advise we proceed to export templates from en.mlp to fr.mlp (simple copy leaves images aside, and not sure about general JS and CSS) ?
  • So there is a level for autoconfirmed ? Could help tuning the protections and filters more finely, don't you think (by this I mean that I believe that rare are the vandals to come and wait for autoconfirmation, right ?) ?
  • That's nice, but it only goes back one month. And I don't see how to hide comments' edits... can I ?
  • I wonder, is there a way to have mutiple links on one image (I think about using a transparent block on part of it, but if you have better...) ? Currently, this doesn't work for unknown reason, despite diverse fallbacks :
    <div style="overflow: hidden; height: 130px; margin: auto; position: relative; "><a title="Flitter" style="display: block; height: 100%; width: 50%; position: absolute; top: 0; right: 0; z-index: 99999; float: right; " href=""></a></div>
  • Also, how is it that en.mlp supports a little https but fr.mlp doesn't ?
And the rest just works. You rock ^^ Drake  23:51, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
  • Nope, just has to be copied to a subpage every time. You could display another wiki's image by pasting the full url, but that gets a little long. There's no reason to keep anything that has the xxpx- prefix, that means it's a resized and reuploaded version of another image that already exists.
  • Nowrap :P
  • You could make your own template that makes use of magic words if you like. The #time parser function is also useful (it could parse revisiontimestamp, for example). You could use Special:Export and Special:Import if you want, though all that does is give you more revision history, and I find it doesn't always work too well. I don't think there's anything that will copy over images and stuff with it.
  • Yeah, autoconfirmed already is among the options for protection.
  • Did you try increasing the days value in the query string? I don't know if there's a hard-coded limit to that page. Uncheck the Talk namespace in the Namespace: dropdown to hide comments.
  • The ImageMap extension is probably the best way to do it; it's enabled by default. (Or split the picture into two images and link each one separately.)
  • No idea. As I said before, the site really isn't meant to work with https.
~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:01, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, so multiple copies, to update one after the other... too bad. Any suggestion ?
But this image is actually used in the wiki, just not uploaded in the present one. (is it a js trick ?)
...yeah, right. Will you tell me this is default on all wikis ?
  • Do you have an emote for pokerface and megusta ? Do you even have a list of emotes (not that I use them much) ?
My own template ? Like the gigantic one some users carry around (amongst whom you) ? Could be a lot of fun, but I have less and less time, not more and more, alas.
#time looks like what I am searching for, but how to make it keep the value it had when first used on a page (in a template), like ~~ ~ ~~ does ? subst ?
I confirm the images are not transported... Does it need a dl & ul, some js voodoo, or just a wiki function ? It seems the css (and js ?) isn't either.
Manual time input worked, took 1 min to load, but worked. Ah, much clearer without the fuzz, possibility to have an URL to discard talk and blog comments (-ns# or something)?
Imagemap is what I was looking for.
  • I wonder, how can you remember all of this, do you even use these functions ?
Em, I have a hard time with this template, there seems to be issues with its appearances (example, counter-example). I determine it's the font-size in the tabs that's at fault, but class="" and tabclass = smallertabs depend on some data not comprised in the page. What can I do ? What can you do ? Are bots' rights specific to one wiki (might want to ask a few things later to one of yours) ?
Thanks —  Drake  04:55, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
No suggestions, I haven't had to find a way around that problem myself.
The software creates resized images on request; it's based on the original, if you remove the xxpx- prefix.
It's not a default template. If you're talking about making it on another wiki, sure, if it would be worthwhile.
I meant like Template:REVISIONTIME if you would be using something like that a lot.
Yes, substitute #time.
Did you try importing the files directly? There's no dependency tracking like you're trying to use. Just have to do stuff like that manually.
Yeah, that kind of thing does take really long to load :P. I haven't been able to find a way to exclude namespaces through the URL. The API query has a namespace parameter, but I'm not sure if the page picks that up from anywhere. Even if it did, it would be opt-in rather than opt-out, so a little unwieldy.
I've only seen imagemap used by others. A lot of this stuff I either have tucked away in my memory or I find through a search or two. I've spent a lot of time with all of it.
The smalltabs classes are defined in our MediaWiki:Common.css (near the bottom). Is that the only issue? Yeah, bot rights are per wiki. I think by default only staff can give bot rights on a wiki, so you just need to use Special:Contact and include a link that indicates consensus for granting the rights. (But check first if a bureaucrat can add them, I'm not sure.)
~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 07:23, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
  • Are you saying that adding "20px-" to any file redimensions it ?
  • What would be worthwhile ?
  • Oh, right (fh).
  • This is going to be a bit delicate, so... should I use something like  ? I wish to have the same result as ~~ ~ ~~.
    • if it could apply to old edits (as in a signature), taking the timestamp of the time the signature was first created for each instance, it would be perfect.
  • Importing the files directly ? How do you do that ? (I can't even see the import page, will have to ask admin).
  • You found a way to add namespaces ? it would solve the problem, I think.
  • Not sure I understand well, basically we need a bureaucrat from fr.mlp to grant bot rights to a foreign bot, right ?
  • Wondering, how do you make mylittlepony.wikia become automatically mlp.wikia ? And may one wiki have a "wiki:" namespace, "workshop:" namespace, etc. ? Instead of the super long "My_Little_Pony_Friendship_is_Magic_Wiki:". Also, how to change the home's name ? What does it affect ?
  • Your opinion on rev ? I tried to be bold and went ahead.
Thanks —  Drake  00:24, January 13, 2014 (UTC)
  • Not exactly. If you look at the URL structure for file locations, resized versions are in a subdirectory of the main image. I'm not certain how the software works exactly, just speaking from what I've observed.
  • Whatever that wiki's requirement for having a template is. If I'm not there, it's probably pretty loose :P.
  • . The r code won't recreate a signature timestamp precisely; you can use other codes to format it however you want. Uh, are you saying you'd be looking through the page history to find when you signed it? Otherwise I don't see a way for it to know.
  • I assume you can import them just like pages. Haven't tried it myself so can't be more specific.
  • No, I don't know. You could try asking Wikia Support if there's a way to specify included RecentChanges namespaces through a URL parameter.
  • Yeah, if they have the ability. If it's not an option for them, you'll have to request it from staff.
  • Heh, I didn't know about that. It's probably something you have to request from staff. Yes, see w:Help:Custom namespaces. You can use Project: as a shortcut for that. (I don't think you can mix those two solutions together.) MediaWiki:Mainpage, I believe.
  • I'm not sure what the point of that template is. If you suspect a quote of being incorrect, couldn't you just check the transcript yourself?
~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:21, January 13, 2014 (UTC)
  • ok
  • time work like a charm, except for the e & T (timezone) arguments, which are not interpreted (old version of mw used on wikia ?) ; and yeah, seems logical that what was not precised would not appear magically, tried plural times and failed.
  • I can't open import for the moment, will try later.
  • will go deeper into that in more appropriate time.
  • you know, time, interest, priority ; lack of these, mainly... Thanks —  Drake  2014-I-25 04:18 (UTC)
Yeah, the timezone section on the help page says it is as of 1.22, and Wikia is at 1.19. I heard it would be a year or two before we even got 1.20, so don't hold your breath.
I'd just report it to an admin or something so they can take care of it, for something small like that.

Infobox help

Hello, Thanks for the tips above, I'll try to test all of it before answering properly. For now, would you be so kind to tell me what could possibly have gone wrong with fr:template:infobox Personnage, you may copy-paste the infobox code from fr:Twilight Sparkle to test in direct. what it shows in firebug on the Twilight page is that it depends on tabber.css ; no class-inherited font-size is taken into account, and tabclass has virtually no effect for unknown reason. I tried without the spaces in variable names without better results. Common.css has been updated with classes smalltabs and smallertabs. If you'd be so kind as to please consider taking a look... It is your version, just a tad outdated (working on new version). Thanks —  Drake  01:08, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Very strange. Try creating MediaWiki:Wikia.css with the following:
@import "/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Common.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";
Wait up to 15 minutes for the cache to refresh. Let me know if it still doesn't work. I don't see anything wrong, unless I've missing something glaringly obvious, so if it still doesn't work I'll ask someone else and then advise a bug report. Maybe also try making the smalltabs classes !important:
.smalltabs .tabbernav li {
    font-size: smaller !important;

It's alive ! Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-08 23:22 (UTC)

Hello Bobo, thanks again for your help for the above points (which still haven't all gotten finalized, hence the lack of response). I'm having trouble understanding what prevents this page's toc from making 2 columns. even with smaller font-size and maximum unzoom, it stays in one column. Is it only made to work for either 3 or 1 columns but not 2 ?
while you're at it, I tried to make the navigation on the page the least cumbersome possible, any advice ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-I-25 04:18 (UTC)

The TOC multicol script was broken by the (not-so-)recent updates to the Wikia TOC code. I don't have time to work on it; you could try asking Foodbandlt as he did most of the code for that. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 04:26, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

"List of ponies" subreddit - Mod rights

Might I request moderator rights for the List of ponies subreddit -- if that's something you can do? Is that something I can request here? (I believe, according to placeholder name policy, admins are automatically moderators.) The latest episode's given us over 40 new ponies (thanks a lot, animators :P), and I think I've familiarized myself with the policy enough that I can help with the voting. Looks like I can, and yeah all admins get rights. Tell me your Reddit username and I'll add you. Would be awesome to have someone active to take care of it again, it's been stagnant for a while and there's a lot to do. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:12, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
Great. As with here, my Reddit username is ImperfectXIII. ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 01:17, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
Invitation sent. If you want to start some polls right away, it would probably be best to check through the mod mail and put up anything that was requested there. Some of them have been waiting a while. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:23, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
Will do, thanks. ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 01:49, January 8, 2014 (UTC)

Sandbox message

I left a message for you in your Sandbox talk page, but I don't know if you were alerted about it or saw it. Dogman15 (talk) 14:19, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, hadn't seen it. I'll help if I have time, but right now it's unlikely that I will. :/ ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:13, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Image Rename Request

I'd like that image to be changed to:

Because I've determined that nopony owned anypony in that scene. I hope you understand.Rkerekes13 (talk) 22:53, January 28, 2014 (UTC)

Protip: Usually, it's best to put Rarity "Owning" Applejack on the image's page, instead. (:D)  The Candlekeeper talk   23:14, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
I didn't even remember uploading that, haha. Works for me. I just fixed the code a little, make sure you don't add the images that need renaming category manually. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:23, January 29, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, it's just a lot easier to keep playing games than to work on stuff like that :P. Hopefully I'll get to working on it again soon, but I dunno. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:04, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Question about talk page layouts

Hi Bobo, how are you doing? I was wondering how this wiki switched from the default "Message Wall" layout to the "Talk Page" article-like layout. Thanks! Steph physarum (talk) 23:59, February 8, 2014 (UTC)

Pretty good. I'd say I'm busy but I'm just playing video games all day instead of doing anything useful :P. You? Are message walls the default now? This wiki was founded before they came out, and we never turned message walls on. We can switch them on at Special:WikiFeatures; I'm not sure if newer wikis have the option to turn them off. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:21, February 9, 2014 (UTC)
Heh, my spring term schedule is really low-key so I'm chilling out a lot too. I don't know if message walls are the default. I asked because I might be adopting a small wikia soon and if I do, I would try to change the format to talk pages. Thanks for the info! Steph physarum (talk) 17:31, February 9, 2014 (UTC)
Hey Steph! Message walls are the default on new wikis, but they can be disabled so normal talk pages can be used.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  17:42, February 9, 2014 (UTC)

If you don't mind, I have a hard time finding any complete documentation on fine-tuning message walls (header templates, rollback, etc.), any lead ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-10 23:36 (UTC)

There's some detail on w:Help:Message Wall if you haven't seen that. Otherwise your Google is as good as mine, I've barely used message walls. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:31, February 11, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, but that's just the point, I can't find a way to have anyone be able to modify freely one's wall's header, or the classical undoing and free edition (of other's messages) options... Globally, I find this wall solution over-restrictive ; what is your point of view ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-12 23:23 (UTC)
Yeah, it's meant to be more social network-style, where the page owner doesn't have as much control of posts, I guess. I've always liked this talk page style more. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:50, February 13, 2014 (UTC)
Found a way, using an unprotected transcluded sub-page. Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-16 23:11 (UTC)

And not sure, probably just contact Wikia. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:14, February 16, 2014 (UTC)
You rock ! Does it go to common.css or wikia.css (and should I differentiate these ?) ?
Also, if the "title" of the wiki is "wiki x" and one wants to have it display as "wiki x - y and z" in the browser, where to go ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-16 23:18 (UTC)
Probably common if you want to hide it in Monobook as well. Try MediaWiki:Pagetitle. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:24, February 16, 2014 (UTC)
Perfecto :) Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-17 00:06 (UTC)

Hello Bob, Thanks a lot for all your help. If I may bother you further, might I ask how to add the questycaptcha extension to a wikia if you please ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-19 00:15 (UTC)

Probably just send in a request through Special:Contact, along with evidence of community consensus to enable it. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:24, February 19, 2014 (UTC)

Transclusion XYZ

Say I have a base template X which is used in a few templates Y to be transcluded on pages Z.

How do I make a link on page X that allows a page Z to link to its page Y ?

I tried different methods of obfuscated transclusion without success. Now, I put Y's pagename manually in one of its X parameters, but I'm sure there's another way...

Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-25 00:24 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean, could you link to a real example? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:09, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
Here is your X, there one of the Y's, and here one of the Z's. What do I write in X to avoid the need to manually put Y's pagename in Y for a link to Y's edition in Z (see template code) ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-26 22:13 (UTC)
No way to avoid that. Links like that are commonly used (see here), and you always have to tell it the page name manually. There's no way to access the name of a template when it's being used. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:48, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
OK Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 03:41 (UTC)

CSS automatic colors

found this, might interest you for templates and stuff. ;)
Not sure which one corresponds to #d9d9d9 etc. ; is there a list (I'm especially looking for an automatic way to get the special pink used everywhere) ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-26 22:13 (UTC)

Interesting. Nope, no automatic way to access that stuff as far as I know (other than getting the color thorough JS). ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:48, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
OK Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 03:41 (UTC)

Home redirection

for an obscure reason, #REDIRECT SITENAME creates a soft redirection (example). How not to, while keeping it flexible (we have no bot) ? Also, when clicking the logo, it goes weird (here), looks like a looping redirection. This might also be a bit urgent, if you please. Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-26 22:13 (UTC)

Forced the replacement of the new page located at sitename, works so-so, wikia server is not purged or I don't understand why redlinks continue to appear towards the old home while supposed to point to sitename. Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-26 22:46 (UTC)
Because the sitename remains the same? Not sure what problem you're pointing to. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:48, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
You're right... where do I change the sitename again ? I used fr:MediaWiki:Mainpage. Also, it looks like a page named "stuff : stuff" becomes "stuff:stuff"... (cf. said mainpage) ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 03:41 (UTC)
I'm not sure that's open to editing since it's a magic word, you might have to request it from staff. Yeah, leading and trailing whitespace is removed from namespaces and page names. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:05, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll ask Staff. The issue with the spacing is that it is in the name, not at its extremes. Understand, it should give "stuff1 : stuff2:page", not stuff1:stuff2:page" as it does now. Are semicolons to be avoided in names ? You don't use them here for the project name, but still for other pages... Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 19:45 (UTC)
The main page you linked in your first message in this section? It's not in the main namespace, it's in the project namespace. Within a page name the spaces wouldn't be removed. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:46, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
If a namespace were to take a colon (not semicolon), a coma and an apostrophe, would it work (apparently not) ? Which is to remove ? Cannot a namespace contain a colon inside of it ? If it may, cannot it be spaced ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 00:32 (UTC)
I can't find information on characters allowed in namespace names; you would have to ask when requesting a custom namespace. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:01, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
Asked, Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 01:39 (UTC)

Also, how does one activate the USERNAME page ? It only shows "anonymous user" to me... Some JS somewhere, or an option I missed ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-26 22:31 (UTC)

Yeah, add the JS here. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:48, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
That's the page I couldn't find ^^ Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 03:41 (UTC)

Wikicode regex

I made an automatic coloring template at fr:Modèle:Characolor (see also fr:Modèle:Charadisc and fr:Modèle:Chanteur), but I wonder, is there a way to ask for regex search in wikicode (I want not to have to reapeat the possibilities in fr:Modèle:Charadisc and fr:Modèle:Characolor with and without the brackets). Any idea ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-II-27 00:33 (UTC)

Neat templates. THere's no way to use regex that I know of (short of using JS for it). You could probably use a combination of string functions to achieve the same thing. If you're not expecting brackets in any parameters, you could probably just do this: {{#replace:{{#replace:{}|[|}}|]|}}. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:48, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
OK :) Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-01 03:41 (UTC)

Just to be sure, if fr:MediaWiki:Welcome-message-user transcludes a template that contains the $3, will it work or just display $3 ? If it does not work, and if $3 is an argument of said template, will this $3 argument be replaced by the right information ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 01:07 (UTC)

I'm not sure, just test it on a new account (though it looks like you're using message walls, so I don't think that page applies - see here). You might have to send $3 as a parameter to the template if it doesn't work. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:34, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
fr:MediaWiki:Welcome-message-wall-user for walls. How do you test a new account ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 17:06 (UTC)

Need repair

Um, I think I broke this. would you mind having a look at what could have gone wrong ? Given it affect more than a dozen pages, I'd very much like to keep it the lightest possible, which is why I replaced the duplicates by a replacement function. It worked at some point, but then continuously broke one revision after the other, and I can't figure out why. My guess is the first and last templates don't appreciate and . Diverse combinations of & #91; and & #93; changed a few things, but I can't find the right correction :s Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 00:32 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't think the parser likes the [[. Try changing "[" to "(" (or something else that would work) in the input and checking for that, like this: {{#pos:{{#replace:{}|[|(}}|((}}. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 17:21, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
Problem is, the function analyzes whether or not the argument begins with [[ to determine whether or not to put and in the correction. I could replace it with fullurl: or a full url, but maybe you know of a right combination which would work, using xml chars for example ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 20:17 (UTC)
Ahh. No, I've always had trouble with doing conditional links. You could move the switch to a subpage and do this: {{#ifeq:{{#rpos:{{#replace:{}|[|(}}|((}}|0|call subpage|call subpage}}. See if that works. Or just do fullurl :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 20:46, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
This wouldn't discriminate it any more ;)
Anyway, found a solution, behold...
Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 23:15 (UTC)

Episode infobox

May I port a nice modification I brought to our fr:template:infobox épisode (management of previous and next to allow colspan in the case of only one present) to the present one (adapted of course) ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 23:15 (UTC)

I think it's better to keep the placement consistent and to mark when it is N/A. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:50, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Display template

Say you have an argument with this kind of content :

stuff A, business 2, le gasp !, les coquelicots

I would like each of the terms separated by ", " to take and , excluding words such as "le" or "les".
How does one do ?

Also, How does one display the content of a template (its code) ? Is there a tag for it ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-02 23:21 (UTC)

Try #explode? You see the code by editing it? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:50, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
Any idea of what I could ask #explode for it to go from
Twilight Sparkle<small>, la Princesse Cadence, Shining Armor</small>
Twilight Sparkle, <small>la Princesse Cadence, Shining Armor</small>
, knowing < small> might be placed before the comma, after it, or after the following space, like above.
Also, the function I'm looking for would display the code of a template instead of its result, if you see what I mean. I would like templates to show not only their result, but also their source code (except < !-- -- > and < noinclude>), without having to resort to copypasta in < pre>...? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-04 23:20 (UTC)
You couldn't do it with that unless you knew what the formatting would look like for every case. Might get complicated and would be easier to do manually or just not link.
No, there's actually no possible way to do that without an extension or something, and I haven't encountered any like that. The problem is that you would have to take the code and apply nowiki to it, but that nowiki stops the {} (and everything following it) from being parsed. I've tried :P. You'll have to copypaste or use the extra parameters of T (or a similar template), unless you can find an extension that will do this. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:08, March 5, 2014 (UTC)
Even disregarding hidden text and nowiki, is there a way ? not sure what template:t helps to do...? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-06 00:10 (UTC)

Wiki code

Is there a possibility to have specific js to run just after an edit is submitted, reviewing what was changed (to potentially correct mistakes) ?
Also, is it possible (for sysop) to ask a wiki to update its templates and preferences to the standards (or reset its preferences) ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-06 00:10 (UTC)

Maybe. Not sure if you can intercept the edit directly, but there are ways. What do you mean update templates and preferences? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:02, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Maybe something that could activate (after) any time a submission if made ?
For the upgrade, I mean like make it so that if the standard for new wikis is to have walls instead of talk enabled by default, an "update" would make the change to the new defaults...? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-07 21:13 (UTC)
Not aware of anything like that. You could ask Wikia. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:17, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Problem with photos

Spyro1996 (talk) 20:50, March 3, 2014 (UTC)Hello. I can't seem to edit galleries (move pictures around, to be more specific). Everytime I click on an image while trying to edit,it highlights the text instead and does nothing. Is there a reason for this? Spyro1996 (talk) 20:50, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Try editing the gallery in Source mode ("Source" tab at the top of the editing page). You can order the images far more easily. ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 21:05, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Why so it is. You can post it on the list of animation errors, which I see you've already found, if you like. I could get a screenshot as well. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:33, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

So what happened to your transcripts page?

You said "Author request: Thus ends the story of the largest page (in wikitext) on the wiki, and begins the story of a new, much better alternative." So where's that alternative? This page was very useful for searching for any text said in the show, quickly. Where's its replacement? Dogman15 (talk) 23:21, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Here. It's linked from the Transcripts page. Enjoy :D ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:24, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Just something. :)

Hey I was just wondering, now that this wikia is finally given a whole new infobox with more taps. :)

Then maybe you guys could let the top rows/titles "Main", "Temporary", and "EG" be somewhat "smaller" than the taps below those, I think it would look/be a bit suitable for the new infobox and it would make a little more space for the pictures on it?

Bleck11 (talk) 03:40, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

I see you posted this on the forum as well, I'll just reply there to keep everything in the same place. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:41, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
If I may, I am curious about these new tabs. Are they nested old ones or a brand new system ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-08 23:25 (UTC)
Well, I redid all the code, if that's what you're asking. Wouldn't really have worked otherwise because of all the considerations I made and such. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:41, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
What did you redo, the infobox ? Nice work on that. Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-09 00:18 (UTC)
Just the profile image tabs section of it this time. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:50, March 9, 2014 (UTC)
Though, now that I look at it, that's almost 50% of the infobox code right there. :P ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 07:04, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks guys, you might want to replace your regex . by \. for the last expressions to work properly. Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-15 01:23 (UTC)

css color

Is there a way to have a color defined somewhere (as a variable), that can be refered to through a css file (say color a: #f00 ; then color:a would give the result when interpreted) ? All ways I found need interpreted code (using stuff like @variable which seem to not be css). Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-14 23:45 (UTC)

You can do it with SASS. I remember reading something about support for it in a technical update, but I don't remember what or where. We might be able to use it in the future, but for now you'd either have to use JS or just copy-paste. Or write your own SASS and convert it to CSS to save on the wiki (you could keep the SASS as a subpage to make it publicly available). ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:53, March 14, 2014 (UTC)
I was kind of looking for a way to define windowtext and so on (universal css color variables) to a specific color...?

Not sure if you are the regex master here, but I can't find a way for an expression to mean every [pP]onyville except those preceeded by en: tried [^en:]{3}[pP]onyville without success.
If you know how to define a word, I'd be quite glad too, like #REDIRECT{ION}? (sure, it's not like this) instead of #REDIRECT[ION]{0,3} as I do now, which works there, but is quite unpractical in some situations. Thanks

Also, not really sure why, but AWB seems to have a problem with interpretating from

to $1$2$1 ; just doesn't do anything. same with

to $1$2$1

The test tool works fine with it, but not the actual simple find and replace... Any idea what to do ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-15 18:27 (UTC)

Have you looked at AWB's regex guide? You can use a negative lookbehind for the first one: (?<!en:)[pP]onyville. Not sure what you mean about defining a word. What's going wrong in those examples? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 19:46, March 15, 2014 (UTC)
Your regex works perfectly, and I found out how to make the first expression above work thanks to the doc on WP. But I still can't find a way to have an expression that will transform
title 1
title 2
title 3
title 4
title 1
title 2
title 3
title 4
... Tested a lot of stuff, can't have anything convincing (usually because it counts one of the last = in the title, which is why it might be better to use 2 regex instead of 1). Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-15 22:40 (UTC)
Just for it to be here, I agree (bot have no bot to test for now) on the alternative method you proposed of searching to replace "== " by "==" and " ==" by "==" (agremented, of course). Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-16 21:58 (UTC)

Gallery issue

Spyro1996 (talk) 18:45, March 17, 2014 (UTC) Hello. For the past few weeks I haven't been able to edit galleries on ANY wiki using my Spyro1996 account. It won't let me move pictures to galleries, or add captions to them. Is there a reason for this? And how can it be fixed?Spyro1996 (talk) 18:45, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know. Your best bet is to report a bug using Special:Contact and hopefully Wikia can help you resolve the issue. Have you tried using different browsers? You could always use source mode to edit them. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 18:56, March 17, 2014 (UTC)
Spyro1996 (talk) 20:14, March 17, 2014 (UTC) I have no idea how to use source mode. :/ Is there some kind of guide on how to use that? Spyro1996 (talk) 20:14, March 17, 2014 (UTC)
Well, there's Help:Wikitext. Galleries are pretty easy, you just put the images one on each line in order, and for captions you put a pipe | after the filename and then the text. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 20:19, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

I'm working on it now. The code needs a major overhaul, it's kind of bad. I'll see if I can expedite it with regex, otherwise I'll just save and let people who have time handle it. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:40, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Character infobox

May you ask the css to make the 4 major tabs' font a tad smaller (like about 4% smaller), as they seem to overwhelm the supposed width by 2px ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-28 22:10 (UTC)

Font size doesn't work that way - it would have to go the next point size down. It seems fine in most cases (I would be inclined to keep super-tabs' font bigger anyway for clarity), and you can shorten one of the tab titles if they're too wide. What page(s) did you see this on? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:06, March 29, 2014 (UTC)
Depends how the input is made :p
Check any of the mane 6 (or any page with the 4 major tabs).
Alternately, maybe reworking the terms would do, given one letter less would also give the good length ? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-29 13:28 (UTC)
I forgot about Wikia's increased font size (which I immediately undid with personal CSS). I don't think it's even the tabs themselves that are stretching it, because those are the same font size in both cases. It might be something else. Anyway, changing the "Temporary" tab title back to "Temp" fixes it. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:40, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Redirect template

Not sure how to use < noinclude> to exclude the #REDIRECT part of a redirect which I want to transclude (a Locations page would redirect to :Category:Locations and said category page would transclude the rest of the content of Locations via a lone { {:Lieux}} ). For now it either breaks the redirection or doubles it if using < includeonly>. Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-29 14:30 (UTC)

I don't even want to think about it. DON'T put content on a redirect page. There's a reason it doesn't show up at all - it's not supposed to be there. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:40, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox song

Working out an idea that sees the Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks animated shorts on an independent page. Might I ask the following tweaks be made to the song infobox?

  • A new optional parameter called "staff". For the short already released, "Music to My Ears", we got a director, a producer, a storyboard artist, a layout supervisor, and an animation supervisor. Rather than make new parameters for each of those, I figure it'd be simpler to consolidate each short's production staff into one parameter.
  • Exclude the "Songs" category's transclusion on the shorts page (which is currently planned to be located at My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks/Animated shorts). Of course, if I can exclude the category a simpler way, that'd be fine too.

Thanks! ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 00:58, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Done, let me know if you want the staff in a different place in relation to the other data. I added that page to the exclusions, though there's also the |nocat=x parameter you can use (the former is simpler in this case). ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:40, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't get what is "inconsistent and bad" about my past edit...? Thanks —  Drake  2014-III-31 21:29 (UTC)

Three parts to it, in decreasing order of objectivity. First, I've never seen anyone put a space between the last semicolon of the style attribute and the closing quotation mark. Second, there is a space after the pipe (or exclamation point) that begins the cell in the rest of the code, as well as most of the other table code, so it should be kept for the rest of the cells. Lastly, spaces after colons in style declarations - I find it easier to read without them, plus it keeps the code smaller. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:55, March 31, 2014 (UTC)
  1. Thought it's logic, given there's a space after any other semicolon. Makes it easier to move text only by mouse.
  2. I thought unnecessary spaces were not wanted... And that spaces were used to separate pipes from attributes for visual ease.
  3. I always space my colons... but that's especially useful when I use proper CSS (not style attributes) ; and I think you even edited one of my styles on mlp especially to add spaces, given I originally deleted every single not-vital one I found.
Also, you moved the "References"' part back before "See also"...? Thanks —  Drake  2014-IV-01 19:44 (UTC)

Yes! Actually we are featuring the MLP wikia in our next Wikia University video and we wanted to show the navigation editor in an easier way beginners to understand. No changes to the actual text were made. Mighty No. 9 (talk) 16:43, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Request for deletion

I'd to remove a comment I made today in the page Episodes since I cannot delete it myself. Also, I'd to delete my account related to this Wiki, if it is possible.

Why? Is it because a page you've created was deleted (by me)? If so, why does that warrant a comment and account deletion? The reason why I deleted the page was because there was no discussion taking place for it to be created. We can try to discuss on whether or not there should be a page exclusively for the Equestria Girls movies and shorts.  Sunset_Shimmer_happy.png Golden Bluebird Sunset_Shimmer_cutie_mark.png 09:49, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

It's for personal reasons, and I insist to ask to delete my comment on the page Episodes and delete my account related to this Wiki. One of the reasons (the main one) is because contributing things to any Wiki is not my thing. That's all, please understand. --MlpG4 (talk) 10:19, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

Well, in that case...  Sunset_Shimmer_happy.png Golden Bluebird Sunset_Shimmer_cutie_mark.png 10:21, April 8, 2014 (UTC)
I've just deleted your comment on the Episodes page. However, I can't delete your account. According to this, your account cannot be deleted but it can be disabled by the Wikia Staff. Considering I'm not part of the Wikia staff, I can't really do that for you. However, you can try to contact them to request them to disable your account if you want to.  Sunset_Shimmer_happy.png Golden Bluebird Sunset_Shimmer_cutie_mark.png 10:36, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

Abuse Filter False Alert

The Swedish title for "Owl's Well That Ends Well" triggers false alert. I know why it was triggered, but it should allow exception for this. Check out my Abuse Filtered edit or Swedish episodes page to find out which episode it is. Vengir (talk) 06:43, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

Someone already commented on this at Forum:Glitch? and I replied with a workaround. I don't think it would be possible to add an exception to the AbuseFilter without making it a lot more inefficient, but I'll try asking someone who is good with it. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:58, April 17, 2014 (UTC)

Uploading a picture for list of ponies.

I found a new background pony from the trade ya clip and i am trying to upload it on to the list of ponies.

Please help! blue 100 talk 20:35, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

Use Special:Upload to upload a picture (make sure to give it a descriptive name). Then go to the appropriate sublist and add in the picture with the same coding used for the rest. If you're not sure how, just upload it and an admin can put it in for you. Thanks, ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:22, April 18, 2014 (UTC)
