Sorry 'bout the "junk"

The junk coding arose when I moved things from the Article summaries to the Allusions using copy and paste without checking the Source page. sorry. Steph physarum (talk) 07:24, September 17, 2012 (UTC)

Pinkie Pie

Uh.... No offfense but "She's just being Pinkie Pie. Doesn't mean she isn't smart" Then what exactly would you call this (and don't say being Pinkie Pie, give me something better than that)? Crazy? Whacky? Insane? And besides, I only said she's SOMEWHAT dim-witted and only SOMETIMES, not totally dim-witted or always like that (she is crazy alot though). I will even admit she can a genius at certain times.ThundertheDragon13 (talk) 06:42, September 23, 2012 (UTC)Thunderthedragon13

She's just being Pinkie Pie. Doesn't mean she isn't smart" Translation of what you just said: She's just being herself; being jolly, giggly, deranged, and sometimes even idiotic; but that doesn't mean she's stupid. Seee what I did there? No offense though, sorry if it sounds offensiveThundertheDragon13 (talk) 06:42, September 23, 2012 (UTC)Thunderthedragon13

Just random. It's speculation because you can't say for sure that she said those things because she didn't know what she was talking about, or was being dim-witted; and I don't think the writers intended for it to be taken that way (though obviously that isn't proof). She's often random and saying silly things doesn't imply lack of intelligence. I think the Dragonshy example is also invalid because she was responding to Rainbow's record-breaking, not Fluttershy's warnings. I think it's just really a misrepresentative paragraph. And I don't see the point of your second message - idiotic is really taking it too far for a character like Pinkie. I won't undo your edit again though, I'll see if anyone else objects. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:45, September 23, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, maybe my smoke part was invalid, I'll change that. But "She's just being Pinkie Pie" is also invalid, no offense. That's like saying Stimpy (from Ren & Stimpy) is just being himself and not stupid, even though he's shown to have a lack of intelligence numerous times (and Ren always calls him an idiot, plus his creator said he was "retarded"). I personally think Pinkie Pie's intelligence is slightly below average and is the least intelligent of the mane 6, but other may not agree with that so I said she is dim-witted only sometimes and she can be a genius at other times. But being dim-witted is what's cool about Pinkie Pie, she amazes me with her stupidity for 5 minutes (sorry, but I couldn't think of a better word than stupidity), but overall I think she is annoying and overrated, my 2nd least favorite pony (next to Rarity, anybody is better than her). Peace out! ThundertheDragon13 (talk) 06:58, September 23, 2012 (UTC)Thunderthedragon13
Following the analogy, Pinkie has never been described as stupid, but rather just random and silly. A better word would be shenanigans or silliness. She doesn't do anything that's truly stupid. Perhaps you should try editing the pages of ponies you are more neutral on so that the bias doesn't affect how you describe them. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 07:03, September 23, 2012 (UTC)
To add on, no official source has ever said that Pinkie Pie is in any way dim-witted or below-average compared to any other pony. Saying that she is dim-witted would be editorializing.  Food 25px-Surprise.png  07:05, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Do you really need a template to add the episode`s full title to the article? Although it is up to you, but using any templates instead of directly specifying the data slows the parent template processing. Teyandee (Talk) 09:55, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

For {{Appearances}}, it's useful for new episodes that will have their titles changed as new information becomes available. For my sandbox, it's useful to reduce page size and also make sorting easier because the S&E numbers are visible in the code, so I don't have to look them up all the time. Since the first point is moot, it's mainly a personal thing, but I put it in the template namespace because it could potentially be useful in other circumstances. (As one minor example, I'm tempted to substitute it every time I have to type "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" :P.) ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 10:01, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Time stamps in signatures

Hello, Bobogoobo! As you can see, you're my go-to person for pretty much everything. I was wondering how you put the time stamp inside the box in your signature. Thanks. --> Steph physarum (talk) 10:43, September 28, 2012 (UTC)

Hehe, glad I'm useful. Well, basically, you put this code before the closing span tag in your signature: {{<includeonly>subst:</includeonly>#time: H:i, F j, Y}} (UTC) - documentation on the function used can be found here, and I can give more details if you want. If you use this method, you sign using only three tildes. If you wanted to continue using four, you could just remove the closing tag from the source and sign like this: ~~~~</span> though I find just using three easier :P. Oh, and you can see my signature code at User:Bobogoobo/sig. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 19:37 (E 19:39), September 28, 2012 (UTC)

Would you mind renaming Sweetie_Belle.png to something more indicative of the episode number, like Sweetie_Belle_S1E12.png?

--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 05:42, September 30, 2012 (UTC)

There are a lot of images like that on the to-do list, but sure. Could you give me the time index for the episode at which that frame appears so I can make a more descriptive name for it? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:45, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
It's a profile image; if any changes were to be made, I think it would just need either "S1E12" or "id" tacked on to the end. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 05:50, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
Well then considering we have yet to discuss consistency among such images, it doesn't really need renaming at all. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 05:58, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
Pretty much my sentiments exactly. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 06:08, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
That frame occurs at 19:22.
Also, I couldn't help but notice one of the older revisions of the file; the one with the rest of the scene cut away. I think we should go with that version.
--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 06:03, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
That's a fanmade vector; it would not be within the scope of this wiki to use that as the image. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 06:08, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
But it looks so much like Sweetie Belle that you can't even tell that it is fan made. And the person said that they just removed the background.
--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 06:19, September 30, 2012 (UTC)
That's still fanmade enough to disqualify its usage on this wiki, at least in the main namespace. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 06:26, September 30, 2012 (UTC)

Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? 08:42, October 2, 2012 (UTC)

Well, let's see. I think Look Before You Sleep has a secondary focus on Twilight (her first sleepover and such). I guess you don't want to list non-main characters, but if you did, Bridle Gossip would list Zecora. For the ones with a bunch of characters listed, it would probably be more helpful to list them in descending order of focus (for example, Swarm of the Century has a little more focus on Pinkie and maybe Fluttershy than on the other characters). I dunno about Call of the Cutie focusing on the CMC, it's mainly just Apple Bloom and the CMC are only formed at the end. I think A Dog and Pony Show is mainly Rarity, and Spike. But I dunno, don't have time to go through the whole thing right now, and anyway -- it's your project, you can do it how you want and make distinctions based on your own criteria. I've been wanting to do my own version of that anyway, maybe we can compare if/when I actually get around to doing that :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 17:01, October 2, 2012 (UTC)

Image sizes

Hello, Bobogoobo! I recently bought Season 1 on iTunes in the hope of getting better images. The size of a test picture that I took (please see below) was 1125 x 633, which is less than the standard size. Assuming that that size is sub-par or unacceptable, I have several issues with obtaining the standard size:

  • I bought 1080p, but it says that it's too large to play on my computer.
  • VLC can't play iTunes videos. Jonny Manz confirmed this just now. :(
  • i.e. I only know one way of getting iTunes screenshots: printscreening (without going full-screen) and cropping the image in Paint.

Is there a better way that I can do this?

Thanks! Steph physarum (talk) FANMADE Octavia by the fireside.png 00:33, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

Ah, yeah, forgot iTunes had that silly stuff. Printscreening should be avoided in general. Since you already bought the episode, it's definitely fine for you to download it on Reddit as Jonny said, or on ThePirateBay which is the one I use. I use the regular iTunes versions because I think the color-correction looks like crap, but obviously there are varying opinions on that :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:38, October 3, 2012 (UTC)
Wait... so I bought the episodes for no reason except to support Hasbro? :( (You're right though, I feel less guilty.) In that case, I'll just watch the legit videos for fun. I'm going to work with VLC and Reddit/PirateBay episodes one at a time and delete them when I'm done to save more hard drive space. Thank you! Whether what's done by visual editor?

--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? 06:11, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

Oh please. Let's be mature here. I'm really just curious, as there's not much I can do about it either way, but if it is intentional then I'll have to start warning people about it. Ugh, for the sake of not confusing passersby: random edits add one space onto an already existing sequence of white space at the end of a line; I'm not sure how the chains start, but they keep going to ridiculous lengths and it really seems like just one of those that visual editor somehow does, especially since it happens from different people in all kinds of places. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:16, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

Warning people about what? If WHAT was intentional? You're not making any sense; I have no idea what you're talking about. Please explain to me what it is that I did; I don't remember doing anything.

I didn't understand any of that. What are "spaces", what are "lines", what are "chains", and what is this white space you are referring to?

Sigh, you do tend to take things too far. I guess I should've known nothing useful would come of this. Also, please don't mark talk page messages as minor (actually, don't mark any non-minor edit as minor), because for one thing it suppresses the "your talk page has been changed" email. I apologize for how rudely that summary was worded, that was bad of me. I was just getting frustrated at seeing this kind of thing happening repeatedly because of visual editor. I was referring primarily to this edit, which only added on to a sequence of whitespace at the end of a line, and this edit, which only added duplicate category tags (a bug which has existed and not been fixed ever since visual editor first graced us with its presence). Sorry again for the summary, it wasn't worth saying that kind of thing over a minor problem. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:39, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

Whitespace diffs

So now I'm curious as I too have seen plenty of whitespace only diffs on the main wiki I edit what did you learn here that you might be so kind as to share? ~erm, meow? 06:09, October 6, 2012 (UTC)

There seems currently to be a bug with the visual editor that somehow creates and then continues to extend with each successive edit a sequence of whitespace at the end of a paragraph/line. I haven't investigated to find out what causes it yet, but it's been annoying me so now I know to check for one of those forming when I see someone using visual editor make a whitespace-only change. Hope this helps. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:14, October 6, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Just a comment (I can't resist commenting on every possible thing :P) - I don't really like to use something like "main 5" anyway though because it doesn't specify who is missing, but the only alternative I can think of is writing all of them out and that gets really verbose.
