Help with implementing popup images on another wiki.

Hello, Bobogoobo.

I am from another wiki on which I am fairly active. I have done a lot of the coding there but nothing spectacular.

When I came on this wiki, I noticed that when you hover over the link of a character, an image would pop up. I thought it would be a great thing to implement on the wiki I am on. I've tried to dig through the coding for it, but I cannot understand how it works and I wondered if it would be possible to get some help from you to implement this functionality to the wiki.

Thanks,

You'd be better off with a simpler implementation (that's more bug-free). If you're willing to use a template or inline styles to do it, you can accomplish it using only CSS, or something like RuneScape Wiki uses. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else is available, so I could help write something simpler to fit your needs. If you have a small number of characters it would be much easier to hardcode the page names and image URLs. Happy echditing, ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 17:01, July 31, 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I will try to come up with a simpler code. If I need help I'll be sure to ask you.

Film chronology

Could you add "Legend of Everfree" to the EG film chronology? (I already made updates of a sort to Template:Infobox Transcript and Template:Infobox film.) For future reference, which templates need updating to accommodate for new entries in the series, aside from the above two templates? Thanks in advance. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 18:17, August 26, 2016 (UTC)

Done. I think for films the only other one is Template:Nameconvert, which was done last month with the shortcut "LOE" instead of "LE". ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 19:35, August 26, 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that successive parameters in {{Infobox film}} don't show up unless the preceding parameter is filled. Like, if "music" is filled but "writer" isn't, "music" isn't visible. Is there a way to fix this, or does it have to do with the way the infobox's rows are set up and it has to be rewritten from scratch? Because I tried working around it and got a "Too many parameters" error. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 03:42, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

It would have to be rewritten, since that's the way Template:Infobox is set up for whatever reason. You could try putting in something that will show up as blank, like an empty set of span tags. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 03:51, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

Highlight Users

Hi, just curious, are you still maintaining HighlightUsers? leviathan_89 @fandom 19:51, October 18, 2016 (UTC)

Not particularly, I've been really busy lately and haven't had much time for scripting. Feel free to take it over if you or another active coder would like to. Someone also made some similar suggestions to yours on my talk page here. (I have notifications for watched pages turned off, so I didn't see the messages on the script's talk page.) Thanks and sorry for the neglect, ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 00:07, October 19, 2016 (UTC)

JS bug with achievements

It appears there is some bug on this wiki. When I hover over any of the user achievement badges in the right rail, noextra detail appear. It works properly with usesitejs=0, so I guess the problem lies somewhere in the JS. Vengir (talkcontributions) 21:15, November 14, 2016 (UTC)

Turns out mw.html.escape (usage added in the code two days ago to fix a potential vulnerability) can take an empty string, but not undefined. Not sure if lazy programming or just not needed since it's usually used internally. Anyway, should be fixed now, pending review. Thanks! ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 02:12, November 15, 2016 (UTC)

A broken feature 0

The link to show the full list of references to http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/File:Applejack_%22not_a_real_word%22_EG.png on its page is broken, apparently by the first double quote in the filename. Cycling the list of refs is working as expected, though. Note that this is the only file I've checked, I stumbled on it from Aj's article. --Rautamiekka (talk) 07:56, January 26, 2017 (UTC)

That's a bug in Wikia's code, looks like they failed to escape quotes in the file name for that link. You can send it in through Special:Contact/bug. Pretty hilarious if it's been present since the file page redesign, nice find. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 04:46, January 27, 2017 (UTC)
Ok, done. I quickly checked in Aj's full pic gallery and every file having a double quote works exactly the same as that one, so it's a consistent quite severe bug. The page said they'll try to get it answered in 2-3 days. --Rautamiekka (talk) 12:29, January 27, 2017 (UTC)
Jan 27, 4:12 PM UTC, George "Kirkburn" Marbulcanti of Wikia said he confirmed the issue to repeat consistently, so it was forwarded to the tech team. --Rautamiekka (talk) 19:51, January 27, 2017 (UTC)

Infobox episode error

Ran into a bit of a roadblock updating the episode list in Template:Nameconvert/list. Infoboxes on season 7 episode pages are generating an "Expression error". I tried to fix it on Template:Infobox episode, but it didn't seem to do anything. Help? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 16:40, March 15, 2017 (UTC)

EDIT: Never mind, I think I figured it out. Updated Template:Eps. Hope I didn't miss a step anywhere. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 17:19, March 15, 2017 (UTC)

Cool, sorry it's so complicated hehe. I just fixed one thing, you removed the "|0" at the end of one line in EPS which is needed for certain calculations. I tried to make some of the documentation a little more clear. By the way, I imagine it's annoying to have to do this digging through code when adding a new season, and there are probably other places that need it too. Would a template that just contains the current season number be useful? ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:42, March 16, 2017 (UTC)
It isn't THAT much of an inconvenience, but if another template makes things simpler to navigate/keep up-to-date, sure. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 02:01, March 16, 2017 (UTC)

Could you add an exception to Template:Infobox episode's "Previous" and "Next" fields to account for Surf and/or Turf? I'm pretty sure it's causing an expression error because of the forward-slash in the title. Thanks. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 15:16, February 28, 2018 (UTC)

This is a rather interesting situation. Wiki actually thinks that this is actually a page called "or Turf" which is a subpage of "Surf and". I'm not sure what other potential problems could come out of this, but this is something to keep in mind. Vengir (talkcontributions) 15:23, February 28, 2018 (UTC)
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Surf_and/or_Turf/@comment-Vengir-20180228155050 furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 16:15, February 28, 2018 (UTC)
I'd actually have to make a relatively major update to the underlying episode querying templates to account for this (because they're coded to take only one segment of the page name, and the software treats this title as two segments), which would make them harder to use and update in the future. I think it's fine to just manually use the previous and next parameters of the infobox for this, since it's a special case. Everything else seems to work fine, but renaming it and using displaytitle is a sensible suggestion. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 20:50, February 28, 2018 (UTC)

YouTube embed

See also: Forum:"The YouTube Flash API was officially deprecated on January 27, 2015." (7)6(four) (talk) 00:19, March 18, 2017 (UTC)

Has something recently changed with how YouTube videos are embedded in Wikia infoboxes? I'm not sure when it started, but YouTube video thumbnails have stopped appearing in infoboxes on pages I load through Firefox, and while they do appear in Internet Explorer, the bottom of the thumbnail reads "The YouTube Flash API was officially deprecated on January 27th, 2015." (Though I recall thumbnails still appearing after that date.)

This may be a personal issue -- perhaps I just need to update Adobe Flash Player or something -- but I wanted to check if it was instead (or also) a template issue. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 23:39, March 17, 2017 (UTC)

What I said in the forum linked above is my best guess; I assume YouTube only recently started showing this deprecation notice. Your best bet is to contact Wikia, but they'll likely just tell you to use File pages instead. There isn't anything we can change in the way we currently embed those videos. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:36, March 18, 2017 (UTC)

Is JavaScript enabled?

Now that Wiki chat has migrated to Discord, I'm trying to implement the Discord widget on the Wiki sidebar. This might be a stupid question, but is JavaScript currently enabled on the Wiki? I'm following the widget integration guide here. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 18:51, April 10, 2017 (UTC)

I just went ahead and set up the widget, I've done it before and you would've needed someone to enable the widget settings anyway. You can change the settings for the widget in the sidebar using the MediaWiki namespace pages as described, and I added one to the main page as well. And yes, JavaScript is enabled :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:02, April 11, 2017 (UTC)
Not sure how the main page looks on a modern sized monitor (I'm at 1280x1024), but the right column is super long (especially if an ad is displayed) and the TV footer is pushed pretty far down. Maybe we could equalize it a bit by putting the FB and Twitter feeds side-by-side in the left column? ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:05, April 11, 2017 (UTC)
Ah, thanks a bunch.
Yeah, on a 1366x768 display, it does look pretty long. The kind of setup you suggest sounds doable to me. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:23, April 11, 2017 (UTC)

Songs

Since Songs#Miscellaneous got The Fresh Princess of Friendship added to it, I further added to it and moved My Little Pony Friends there from Songs#My Little Pony Equestria Girls (because Songs#Season one doesn't include The Best Night Ever's cut Piggy Dance) for consistency, but now—at least for me (and on multiple browsers)—something's wrong with the Lyrics "Show"/"Hide" for My Little Pony Friends there; any idea what broke and/or how to fix it? (7)6(four) (talk) 00:45, April 14, 2017 (UTC)

It's because the "length" column isn't where the script expects it to be for that table, so the multiple lead singers (i.e. the commas in that cell) make it get treated as a multiple-part song. I just specified the data-lyric-section as a workaround, not worth accounting for it in the script unless it becomes a more common problem. The Books table wasn't working either, so I fixed that by adding a new attribute, which should only be necessary for that case. Hopefully everything works now (once the revision is approved), thanks for pointing it out. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 03:17, April 14, 2017 (UTC)

Credits/Graphic Artists who created "Baby Flurryheart's Heartfelt Scrapbook" and "Rarity's Peek Behind the Boutique"

Hello!

We would like to update your animated shorts section to include the motion design artists who created both "Baby Flurryheart's Heartfelt Scrapbook" and "Rarity's Peek Behind the Boutique".  We are: Nicole Chudy, Senior Motion Designer and Emily Cotelless, Motion Designer.  (We both work at Hasbro's internal studio, Cake Mix Studio)

Motionblurred (talk) 19:54, July 11, 2017 (UTC) Nicole Chudy

Looks like User:ImperfectXIII has taken care of it. Thanks! ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:17, July 12, 2017 (UTC)

Oops!

I'm sorry but I mistyped Emily's last name in the last message, it's actually Emily "Cotellessa"... Thanks! :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Motionblurred (talkcontribs)

Colors in cells

Hey Bobogoobo,

I'm trying to get colors added to the "rating" column on the tables in my rating blog. I asked Jonny Manz about it on his talk page since he managed to get colors in his tables using the #ifexpr function, however my rating system uses whole numbers which may include -'s and +'s attached to them, such as 3+, which is something I can't seem to get #ifexpr to recognize. I tried adding the + symbol in the same cell after the template, but unfortunately that seems to not only place it as if after a br/ but also include within the text of the cell the || necessary to enter text into the next column, so any ratings that involve a - or + will have a cell that looks like this:

3
+

or like this if there is text in the next column:

3
+||(text if any)

Do you know of a way to get around this, or otherwise add colors to cells using a different method that would work with my rating scale?

ThanksFluffbrain (talk) 03:14, July 18, 2017 (UTC)

There was an extra line break in the template causing problems (MediaWiki is sensitive about those). It should work now if you add the symbol after the template. If you run into any issues, you can strip out the symbols in the template like so:
{{#replace:{{#replace:{{{r}}}|+|}}|-|}}
Let me know if you need any further assistance :) ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 05:58, July 18, 2017 (UTC)
That seems to have done the trick. Thanks a lot for the help!Fluffbrain (talk) 06:10, July 18, 2017 (UTC)

Color case-sensitivity

http://www.perbang.dk/rgb/06E500/ is erroneously linked to from—though not displayed in place of—other colors when an in-URL HEX value contains any lowercase letter(s), so would it be possible for Template:Perbang to use span style="text-transform:uppercase;" as a workaround? (7)6(four) (talk) 03:14, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

Fixed, I left the display text as is. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 04:12, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

Wiki-background

I want to create a background or two for the Wiki for the theatrical release of My Little Pony The Movie. Does File:Wiki-background represent the most ideal dimensions for said background? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:47, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

See w:Help:Background for a detailed explanation of how it works - if you're okay with the default behavior (keep in mind our current background is anchored to the bottom of the viewport using CSS), then it would be easier to use a less wide image so it can be split automatically. A height of 1080px or slightly under should be good though. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:55, September 9, 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 02:27, September 9, 2017 (UTC)

Special:Images text bug

Could you fix the file uploading script on Special:Images? Clicking the "Add new image" button causes the text on the popup window to appear like this:

Upload a photo to the wiki <p style="font-size:90%; margin-top: 0.5em; color: #3A3A3A;">Please give the file a <a href="http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Descriptive_name">descriptive name</a>.</p>

furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 19:34, October 1, 2017 (UTC)

Looks like Wikia disabled HTML in the MW page that adds that text, and since we can't edit that page, I can't do any tests on it. There's no elegant way to script a fix, so I'll contact Wikia and see what can be done. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 05:45, October 3, 2017 (UTC)
We can't use HTML or wikitext in the message anymore, so they've changed it just to mention the help page title. How does that look? ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:32, October 5, 2017 (UTC)
That'll do. Thanks. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 02:01, October 5, 2017 (UTC)

Ginger Beard

Hello!

I wanted to officially submit a name for the S05E07 Unnamed Earth Stallion #0 from 'Baby Flurry Heart's Heartfelt Scrapbook Ep. 3 All About Alicorns'. His name is Ginger Beard. I work at Hasbro and participated in the creation of this background character. If you need further confirmation for an official name submission- totally understandable. Please don't hesiate to reach out to me directly, as I'd be happy to help.

Thanks!

I added a credits link to the "See also" sections of Template:Infobox episode and Template:Infobox film. Could you do me a favor and fix my #switch expression in Template:Infobox film? I tried to jury-rig an identical expression from Template:Infobox Transcript (to no success). I probably made it more complicated than necessary; hopefully, you can figure out what I was trying to do there. :P Thanks in advance. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 05:13, November 5, 2017 (UTC)

Wikitable/template issues

Do you know if there's something up with the standard wikitable syntax or some of the Wiki's templates? I've found that, while editing certain pages/character lists, some data gets inexplicably lost upon switching from Visual Mode to Source Mode, and it instantly breaks the table format (it sometimes depends upon the browser being used; I've noticed this on Chrome and Firefox but not Internet Explorer). Try editing List of non-pony characters/Griffons as an example, and maybe you'll see what I mean.

Something else I've noticed is that, upon switching from Visual Mode to Source Mode, certain Wiki templates behave... strangely, for lack of a better description. {{Cellanchor}} will remove any text next to it (thus creating the tabling issue above), {{TOC limit}} and {{clr}} get moved to different lines for some reason, line breaks between {{quote}}s are erased, etc. Try editing Applejack (EG) for an example of this.

Pages with complex code that remain locked in Source Mode while editing don't seem to have an issue, but pages that load in Visual Mode do. I don't know if it's just a problem with my own browser, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Has something changed recently? Is there a way to bypass Visual Mode and open the Visual Editor in Source Mode from the start? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 14:57, January 31, 2018 (UTC)

Wikia did just make some changes to the editor. Maybe you should report the bug to them? Vengir (talkcontributions) 17:29, January 31, 2018 (UTC)

Fundamentals of Magic!

Hello again!

I was wondering if it were possible to add credits to the new MLP digital shorts, Celestia's Fundamentals of Magic.  They would be the same as Rarity's Peek Behind the Boutique and Baby Flurryheart's Heartfelt Scrapbook (Nicole Chudy as senior motion designer and Emily Cotellessa as motion designer).

Thank you!

hi! I just joined this website and I was wondering, how do you "join" a fandom as the join a fandom badge states it? Thanks! OvirThaRaynbo (talk) 20:52, March 12, 2018 (UTC)

Something went wrong with All Transcripts page

It seemed like cannot load the transcripts of season 8 and its table of contents correctly. Refreshing the page couldn't solve the problem.

I know nothing about how it works (though I'm quite interested in that). Maybe you can deal with the problem. Thanks.

Wsc1024 (talk) 05:54, April 18, 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the report! This should now be fixed, as well as some other problems with the page. You'll have to wait for Wikia to approve the code revision to see the corrected page, or you can enter Test Mode from MediaWiki:Common.js/Transcripts.js to see it immediately. You can also see the script that generates the page there, if you're code-savvy. Thanks, ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 00:11, April 19, 2018 (UTC)

Implementation of a code

Hello,

I was told that you are one of the users in-charge of MLP wiki's coding and CSS. Therefore, I wish to ask you for a small favour about a certain feature here of MLP wiki that I like to add into another wiki which I'm an admin of.

In desktop mode, when one hover the cursor to certain links, an image would pop up above the link. May I get the code which is able to do this (in pre-text form <code>Blah</code>)? And which MediaWiki page am I suppose to implement it in?

I am looking forward to a positive reply from you. Thanks. :D --{{SUBST:T0317288g/Sig2 }} 14:59, August 13, 2018 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aphrodite Belleza (talkcontribs)

I'm not Bobogoobo and I don't know exactly how it works on this wiki, but there is a similar code available at dev wiki here: https://dev.wikia.com/wiki/LinkPreview They might function a little differently, so be careful. The main difference is, AFAIK, that in the MLP version you manually select which image will represent the article, whereas with the dev (or should I say, Russian Borderlands' version) it's chosen automatically. If you do choose that one, then I at least recommend changing the "noimage" variable, unless your wiki is in Russian. Vengir (talkcontributions) 17:34, August 13, 2018 (UTC)
The script is highly specific to this wiki and is also in a beta state, so unless you know JavaScript, it would be a whole lot easier to use something from the dev wiki, or another MediaWiki source, like what Vengir linked to. I can't recall if there are other options that are currently maintained; perhaps you could also ask in the Wikia Community forums. (@Vengir: the script on this wiki does choose the image automatically as well, based on some predefined categories.) Sorry I can't be of more help. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 19:47, August 13, 2018 (UTC)

List of ponies/full troubles

On the full page the code starts screwing up around the start of the mentioned characters list (with Medallion Gold and Rosy Pearl also messing up a little), but the code on the individual pages seems fine. Most of the problems are either align="left" > appearing in the description box or the box being pushed one over, as seen in an example on Feldspar. Thought I would let you know and see what the problem is. Done! It's not exactly season 1 and 2 ;) Let me know if you see anything amiss. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 03:08, August 29, 2018 (UTC)
I guess I should have included specifics, but you knew what I meant lol. I would have done it myself, but I've been gone so long I didn't want to screw anything up royally. It looks good, thank you! About the Lyrics Show button

Hi, so a few days ago i was adding songs to the Songs Page when I come across the button that shows lyrics, I asked Impy about it and he said that you coded it, I just wanted to simply ask how it works or possibly the code for it if you don't mind, Thanks! OD1-ByHL (talk) 15:23, May 10, 2019 (UTC)

Sure, you can find the code on MediaWiki:Common.js, just Ctrl+F for "lyrics". It relies on the structure used by the tables on that page, so if you want to use it elsewhere it will need some modification. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 20:38, May 10, 2019 (UTC)

all transcripts on a single page bug

Hello, My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Choose Your Own Ending on the page doesn't work. It should be divided into My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Choose Your Own Ending (season 1) and My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Choose Your Own Ending (season 2).

Thanks for the report, I will take a look over the weekend. ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 02:51, June 21, 2019 (UTC)

Wiki Manager Introduction

Greetings! My name is SilverFlight, here to help the community as its Wiki Manager. My mission is to assist in any way I can and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., please contact me on my talk page.

In addition, I'm happy to inform you that Fandom is upgrading its MediaWiki platform to accommodate MediaWiki extensions. You can read more about here on the blog post.

If you have any questions, let me know what I can do to help.

Why didn't they call it something like Wiki Liaison instead of Wiki Manager, which makes it sound like you have power over other users? ~Bobogoobo (talk) Lyra_speaks_S2E25.png 01:41, July 9, 2019 (UTC)

[Villains]

You should have a section for villains. Significant villains, minor villains, reformed villains, including diamond tiara and silver spoon. That would be exciting for us. Also put them in chronological order. Thank you.
