Descriptive file names

When uploading images to this wiki, could you give them descriptive file names. Fanmade content should have the prefix 'FANMADE' in the name. A useful blog found here can give you a rundown on what is expected of files when they are uploaded to the wiki. It really helps save unnecessary time for the contributors who have to rename the images. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me about it.

Be wary that continuing to not upload properly named images may lead to admin involvement and a possible block from the Wiki. Thanks,

Hey

Spyro1996 (talk) 12:25, May 25, 2016 (UTC) Hey pal, just wanted to let you know that, in case this is still something that's bothering you, you don't have to feel alone in your opinions on what you appreciate about the show. Because, quite frankly, I've agreed so much with your blog posts that I feel like I could've written them myself If I was better at articulaitng my thoughts. So just in case you still feel destroyed, just remember that you've got at least one friend on the wiki that shares your Sentiments on the show. =) Spyro1996 (talk) 12:25, May 25, 2016 (UTC)

Spyro1996's message to YOU (Yes, you)

Spyro1996 (talk) 06:46, January 19, 2017 (UTC)Hello Fluff! Long time no C. How was your Christmas? I'm sorry I have not been as active on the Wiki this past month, but I'm hoping to pop by more often soon. Just wanted to see how you were doing! Spyro1996 (talk) 06:46, January 19, 2017 (UTC)

Ahoy there, I was wondering what you'd been up to since I haven't seen much of you on here. Not that I've been terribly active as well but I do glance over the most recent activity now and again. Christmas was fine, travelled to the east coast (in the US) to visit family for a few weeks, but now it's back to the daily grind. I've been picking up where I left off transcribing MLP episodes into Arabic, something I had started doing two months ago but had to stop on account of pressing matters. I'm pretty happy with how much it's been helping me practice so I'll probably keep on it for a while. I've been keeping an eye on season seven and MLP movie updates as well; frankly I think it's more likely than not that any new material will be of the same stylistic vein as season six, but I'm willing to wait and see before losing more enthusiasm.
How about you, what's the latest?Fluffbrain (talk) 01:55, January 20, 2017 (UTC)

Re: allusion

Hi, Fluffbrain. Concerning the allusion you added here that was removed:

I watched the Vimeo video you mentioned on Prince Goldstreak's talk page, and I can't hear any sounds resembling that during Twilight's transformation scene. I'm assuming, by "transformation scene", you're referring to the scene in which Twilight turns into an Alicorn. If that's not the scene you're talking about, could you be more specific? Thank you. ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 03:41, April 8, 2017 (UTC)

Hi Imperfect,
Yes that is the scene I'm referring to, though the sound itself is fairly brief and happens only at the very beginning of the scene, as Twilight's image slowly fades in from the background. For the brevity of the sound in question (~4 seconds) I can sort of understand removing it as an allusion, but for me the sound is distinctly similar to that of the overtone singing I mentioned. Perhaps a better example (even hitting the same notes) is this video from youtube starting at about 1:08. Played side-by-side with the MLP episode audio (at the beginning of the scene where her first words are "Hello? Where am I") they sound nearly identical to me.Fluffbrain (talk) 04:06, April 8, 2017 (UTC)
Okay, now I can kind of hear it. Thanks for clarifying. ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 04:36, April 8, 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for asking about it, I really did feel it was a worthwhile allusion to list. Fluffbrain (talk) 05:59, April 8, 2017 (UTC)

Re: Re: Posture

OK, crocodiles sprawl, but  they do not sprawl like lizards, which that quote implied. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Opdagon (talkcontribs)

To remind you, you're the one who wrote the sprawling posture bit. The original article didn't imply anything about posture. Or are you saying you wrote that to show how Gummy's sprawl is like a lizard, which is unlike normal alligators? If so, it's worthy to note that Gummy is called an "alligator" but is not actually an alligator more than an extremely basic approximation of one. There are many differences between Gummy and a real alligator, but as is often the case with descriptive paragraphs in these sorts of articles, only a few of the most apparent features need be listed to effect the desired purpose.Fluffbrain (talk) 16:31, September 19, 2017 (UTC)

About the quote you gave on Imperfect's page

The quote is about gilda, not all griffons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Opdagon (talkcontribs)

This is true. I suspect, however, that being "half-eagle, half lion" is what defines her as a griffon, not the reason why she was named Gilda.Fluffbrain (talk) 20:22, September 26, 2017 (UTC)

In a more serious response to hopefully help you understand the likely reason your edit was undone...

Information categorization can be extremely specific, extremely general, or anywhere in between. General, practical descriptions and comparisons are more often the sort of information people expect from this site, rather than precise scientific evaluations. The watermark for the appropriate level of specification is set by the admins; their corrections are not so much reprimands as they are just informing you what the style of presentation is on this particular wiki – whether or not your original edits are factually correct or appropriately worded.

The takeaway (as far as I can tell) is that you’re trying to make articles more specific and analytical than the admins think the wiki needs to be to serve its purpose. Whether or not you agree (and to be honest I don’t always agree), it is their right make these calls.Fluffbrain (talk) 21:57, September 26, 2017 (UTC)

A changed feeling

Hi Fluffbrain,my feeling for S7 has changed.I used to think S7 is the worse in MLP,but finally I find I was wrong.

Because now I know and feel no matter which episode I watched, there must be a wonderful or a new feeling for me.Because finally I can stay with my friends for a long time. Also, everypony's spirit hasn't changed.Weather they do something for their friendships or not, they will be ture ture friends forever! As long as I can see them, that's enough!

I think we shouldn't think anyepisode or anyseason is bad.Because we can see somepony in it. Aurora Twinkle(talk) 03:11, October 22, 2017 (UTC)

Hi Aurora Twinkle,
I'm happy you can enjoy it then. For me the characters feel very different from before, and I simply don't relate with them anymore. I don't think it's bad to like newer episodes though, I recognize that other people may experience the show differently than I do.Fluffbrain (talk) 06:15, October 22, 2017 (UTC)
Hello, Fluffbrain. :)
Yeah, I guess that's true, different people experience the show in a different way, it depends a lot on their view on life, personal experiences and tastes, etc.
For example, Twilight was very relatable to me in the show, which slightly decreased in season 6, but in seasons 7 / 8 it gradually restored in same way as before.
In any case, I'm suspecting you do like Twilight, and I see you like early seasons of the show, which makes me want to share something. Which is why I left you a reply in the comment section of the season 9's premiere. But, you might not get a notification for that, so I'm leaving the direct link to it here: https://mlp.fandom.com/wiki/The_Beginning_of_the_End_-_Part_1#comm-984678

Hi AstrumSpark,
You'll see I replied to your comment on the page, however--assuming you are the same person who runs the youtube channel of the same name--I wanted to thank you for hosting the Friendship is Witchcraft videos on your channel, since apparently Sherclop Pones doesn't anymore. I only got into a few of them when I found your channel last year but it was refreshing to watch MLP content that I enjoyed.Fluffbrain (talk) 08:18, May 2, 2019 (UTC)
No problem. :) I was happy to host that parody series for the history (even though I myself love the actual show a lot more than that fan-made series).
I replied to your post on that page now as well. Please, read it fully, before you make your final decision though. :) Here's the link: https://mlp.fandom.com/wiki/The_Beginning_of_the_End_-_Part_1#comm-989386

At the very least it was interesting to see a new perspective about the show, which I didn't encounter before.

I'm not at all bothered by your comments. If anything it gives me an opportunity to articulate my thoughts on topics I would normally not have occasion to write about.Fluffbrain (talk) 23:27, May 3, 2019 (UTC)

Apparently deleted comment chain

I can still easily find it.

Would be a shame if any of your walls of text disappeared. GoldenLine (talk) 02:59, June 10, 2018 (UTC)

Huh. I wonder why the comment link in my blog post went red. And why I only thought to search half the comments page. Well thanks.Fluffbrain (talk) 03:10, June 10, 2018 (UTC)

Apparently, the links to replies have removed the username of the user you are replying to. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but it was pretty easy to find. :P GoldenLine (talk) 21:38, June 12, 2018 (UTC)

No it's true, it was right there on the first comment page, very easy to find. I realized what happened though - the original comment was made almost a year ago and thus located far down the page, but the comments I wanted to reference are from only a few months ago so I subconsciously expected them to be much higher up. So as I was scrolling down and started getting into comments made last year I concluded they must have ceased to exist.

Unfortunately I am still prone to making defensive assumptions when reacting to a perceived injustice, and in not accounting for all reasonable possibilities.Fluffbrain (talk) 22:58, June 12, 2018 (UTC)

A commendation

Fluffbrain, I'd like to take this opportunity to say how I'm impressed I am with your dealing with User:TinkTonk's... stubborn streak. You've been very calm and patient in addressing their opinions and not sinking to their level. You have my sincerest appreciation and respect.

To that end, I'd like to nominate you for September 2018's "Contributor of the Month". That nomination thread hasn't seen much activity recently, but for how you've been conducting yourself in the comments, I wanted to show my appreciation in some way. Even if you decline the nomination, please keep up the great work. :) ImperfectXIII Wiki signature.png FANMADE ImperfectXIII OC pixel animation.gif 00:10, August 31, 2018 (UTC)

I'm... I'm ALIVE.

You?Fluffbrain (talk) 04:13, December 9, 2019 (UTC)

Well, at the time I stopped contributing on a daily basis, it was because life kinda took a turn for the worst, and I didn't want to drag the experience of being on the wiki down with it.

Once that school year was over, things were guaranteed to... you know, stop sucking, but I've kinda settled into life sans wiki. GoldenLine (talk) 04:16, March 10, 2020 (UTC)

I hope things have indeed stopped sucking as much. It's unfortunate that getting an education tends to happen when our lives are at one of their most volatile periods.

I'm a bit of a troglodyte when I'm not working and check the wiki somewhat regularly every day, but I don't contribute too much as I don't even know half the content of the show at this point, and naturally activity has slowed down. The things I like about the show have become about half of my brain now, and I love transcribing foreign dubs daily as both a language practice and to keep a fresh sense of connection with the show--which in turn makes me want to maintain the wiki as a resource for like-minded people--but I'm not much of a "fandom" kind of person, and if I weren't using the wiki's transcripts to help my daily transcription, I doubt I would have much reason to visit at all.Fluffbrain (talk) 06:24, March 11, 2020 (UTC)

Honestly, I seriously respect how you're always able to so eloquently explain what you think and how it relates to any particular experience. Every time, I feel like I totally understand. More often than not, I just think any introspection I try to put into words just sounds confusing.

Also, I should clarify: when I say "at the time I stopped contributing on a daily basis", I'm referring to the very moment September 2018 started. Not that any new content from the show (I only got around to watching season 9 in September) would have enriched the experience of being here at all.

And thank you. My life has definitely stopped sucking, though while it may have been the reason I disappeared for weeks at the time, my life just kinda is what it is now, and what it is now doesn't really see a return to form. Part of me wants to return to my more crazily happy times pre-summer of 2018. GoldenLine (talk) 01:37, March 12, 2020 (UTC)

I feel I should add onto that remark about "my more crazily happy times pre-summer of 2018"; what I remember from the year leading right up to that was an absolutely glorious time for me -- so I'm kind of left feeling that the damage has been done. Even if things now aren't "bad" per se, what I loved when it was the present is always going to be further in the past.
Not all is doom and gloom though; even if I struggle to call the present "good", it is reassuring to know that the "stopped sucking" has happened (and you wouldn't believe just how relieved I was when that school year ended last June), and I think I was successful in that whole "not dragging the experience of being on the wiki down with it". A bit strange to consider removing a regular daily activity a success, but I'm a strange person. Honestly, the main reason I added this message was to offset the gloominess and be reassuring. GoldenLine (talk) 01:57, April 6, 2020 (UTC)
I'm glad to hear the major stressors weren't so enduring then, as I know some can be. I assume by "school" you mean high school? Your story reminds me of a time when, while discussing narrative arcs in the poems of Schubertian lied, one of my graduate professors suggested that the "return home" part of a typical "hero's journey" is an illusion--that one can never truly return to the pre-conflict state, at least emotionally. I generally find such rhetorical fluff unhelpful, though I'm inclined to agree with the idea based on my own experience. I've been fortunate that so far in my adult life I've had "stabilizers" of sorts to help me through periods of difficult transition, though I've only had to look after myself.Fluffbrain (talk) 19:01, April 19, 2020 (UTC)

What did you mean by this?

Who were you talking to when you wrote that? --Bl00lust (talk) 00:56, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
I didn't know if Blaine Alvin Knutson's original comment was related to a real objection they had concerning wiki content, but it appeared to be something they were bothered about enough to comment about it multiple times. I thought the issue was both lacking in material enough to make a convincing argument one way or the other and not important enough to continually push as the user seemed to be doing, and when it looked as though the discussion was going to grow into something unnecessarily argumentative, I made my comment to suggest my view to those involved in the conversation with the intent to help bring it to a close. I made my amendment when it occurred to me that the windigos have appeared in episodes I haven't seen, and I realized I may not be aware of information that would lend credibility to the original comment.Fluffbrain (talk) 01:21, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying. Final things: what did you mean by "rhetorical groundwork"? And when you mentioned "provability", were you referencing provability logic? --Bl00lust (talk) 01:49, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
By "rhetorical groundwork" I just meant argument in general, and I wasn't trying to reference any specific branch of formal logic; I simply meant "provability". The sentiment of the comment was primarily directed at Blaine Alvin Knutson, since they seemed intent to bring the topic to fuller discussion.Fluffbrain (talk) 04:48, January 11, 2020 (UTC)

Blog series

Hello, Fluff! Long time no C! I hope you're keeping well during this crazy time. I've recently begun a "revisiting MLP"  series over on my wordpress blog, and thought I'd leave a link to the introduction in case it would be of any interest to you. It's been quite fun re-watching the first season so far, and I'm curious about how much of my my original impressions on the show will be altered or remain the same upon this revisit.

https://ipaidforthat.wordpress.com/2020/04/10/fim-revisited-an-introduction/

Spyro1996 (talk) 20:30, April 10, 2020 (UTC)

Hey Spyro, good to hear from you again. I've been enjoying the reading along with those fantastic title images. Where are they from? Since I watch a little bit of the show every day for my language routine, usually a season 1-2 episode alongside at season 4-5 episode, I've been constantly refining my thoughts on the show and its stylistic evolution, and I sometimes get the urge to write or rewrite a blog post about what I think make the old seasons so great. What always prevents me is that I would be too tempted to draw comparisons between old and new episodes, but I wouldn't actually be able to speak with authority on the newer episodes since I've only seen a few, and I fear it would pain me too much to watch the rest even for the sake of being able to comment on them. Honestly though, thinking about and trying to articulate--even just to myself--why I like the early seasons has been one of the most perspective-broadening exercises I've undertaken in my adult life, one that I feel has really helped me organize my thoughts on other forms of entertainment including my own music. Not to mention the writing practice, which you can't have too much of as far as I'm concerned.
The point is, I'm glad to see you're still writing your thought about the show, and I'll be reading.Fluffbrain (talk) 08:13, April 29, 2020 (UTC)
